Zyrtec side effects? I am in high school, what are the side effects of zyrtec? And is there any way to lessen them?
I have a bottle with a few leftover from last year, safe to take?
(I don't remember any of the side effects I had from last year)
aquieterone replied: "Here's everything you should know about this drug. I take it before I go to bed because the doctor said the most common side effect is sleepiness.
However, I'm wondering why you stopped this? Hopefully with the doctor's okay. Perhaps it would be wise for you to check with the doctor again before start taking it. The pills you have also could be past their expiration date.

Are there any side effects, concerning sun exposure, with the allergy medicine Zyrtec? I switched from Allegra to Zyrtec about three months ago. I have never had any type of reaction due to sun exposure before... I just wondered if sun poisoning can be a side effect of Zyrtec. And what do I do now???
Andrew replied: "Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Zyrtec.
More common side effects in adults may include:
drowsiness
dry mouth
fatigue
Less common side effects in adults may include:
dizziness
sore throat
More common side effects in children aged 6 to 11 may include:
abdominal pain
coughing
diarrhea
headache
nosebleed
sleepiness
sore throat
wheezing
Less common side effects in children aged 6 to 11 may include:
nausea
vomiting
as far as you can see.. none is related to sun exposure.
good luck."
KatjaNadja replied: "Stay out of the sun as much as you can and moisturize the affected area(s) to sooth the skin... you can try an after-sun lotion (I like Alba Organics Kona Coffee after-sun lotion), but the best thing for you is to keep away from the sun for a few days -- if you can't avoid it, limit your exposure and wear plenty of sunscreen. Your sun poisoning can be caused by birth control pills or another medication, but cetirizine (Zyrtec) shouldn't cause it."
who knows? replied: "I don't know the side affects but that is the best medicine for allergies, unless there are food allergies, becuase the only treatment with food allergies is cutting down the food causing it"
Zyrtec withdrawl side effects? Has anyone experienced bad side effects from trying to come off Zyrtec?
I've had itching and sometimes feelings of anxiety. I don't have severe allergies but am allergic to lots of things.
This is just regular Zyrtec, not any of the Zyrtec-D or anything.
tldawson74 replied: "my daughter was prescirbed this med. and was allergic to it. she sweeled up and had a bad rash. they said it was from the medicince zyrtec. i would say discontinue this med until you see ur dr"
Is generic Cetirizine HCL as effective as Zyrtec? Does it have different side effects? I've been taking Zyrtec year-round for years but am losing my insurance coverage. I can get 350 of the generic for about $17 but the best I can do on Zyrtec is 75 for $31!
daddyrx replied: "Cetirizine is just as effective as Zyrtec. The side effect profile is the same. Generic drugs undergo the same scrutiny as brand name drugs when they come onto the market."
Reactine (Zyrtec) side effects ? I started taking Reactine 10mg extra stregth daily for allergies.
But its causing me drowsiness, diziness and I am actually starting to have more sinus pressure!!!
I just discontinud this med! Did anyone experience similar symptoms ?

bed_heads13 replied: "Yes I had all those side effects plus extreme mood swings. it's very common with this drug.
I've added a good site that tells you all side effects (even the ones that aren't on the bottle) that people experience when they take medication, Down in sources. Any repeat symptomes in different people or yourself is the drug.....some people are just paranoid and add every little thing."
Are there any long-term side effects from daily intake of allergy medications like Zyrtec or Claritin? I assume typical side effects listed on their websites are for first time users, but if I already got over the initial drowsiness and dry mouth, and have resigned to take allergy medicines a few times a week for the rest of my life, are there any known side effects I might suffer decades from now?
Wendall ツ replied: "I'm not sure about the ones that you mentioned, but both me and my mom have been taking Allegra, and it's a very good medication for allergies (me and her are allergic to like, everything, and that's what we take). And I don't think we have any problems that are long term. We've been using these medications for years.
Ask your doctor about the medcations you take, that'll get you a for-sure answer."
Temperance replied: "I've never experienced any (and I've been taking them for a good ten years). The only problem is, you can build up a tolerance to the drugs over time. Basically none of the OTC brands work for me anymore."
side effects of zyrtec? I've been on zyrtec for about a week now. To be honest, it's not helping much. But what I'm more concerned about is the side effects. I've had unbelievably weird and disturbing dreams ever since the first day I took it. I was reading a book, and there was a character who I suspected was going to die. So all night I was dreaming of horrible, violent ways this character could die. The night before that, I dreamed that both of my kids were missing and no one would believe me or help me find them. Is this a common side effect of zyrtec? Or is it something else? Honestly, if this medicine is going to cause this for the rest of the season, I think I'd rather deal with my runny nose and stuffy head.
Jan replied: "I've never heard of these severe side effects from Zyrtec. You should stop taking it immediately and tell your doctor. He should be able to prescribe a different allergy medication for you, especially since this one wasn't effective enough for you anyway. Drugs interact differently in some people's bodies, so I definitely would not want to be having those kinds of difficulties. Good luck getting your allergies under control and getting a good nights sleep!"
eHealthMe replied: "Use "Abnormal Dreams" as your side effects with zyrtec and do a search on:
What I got is 60+ reports of this outcome and other most common ones. Good luck."
Side effects to Zyrtec and Zantac and possible Benadryl? I been getting hives for months, ended up at the ER one time, took prednsone (only drug that gets rid of hives) and facial swelling now and then, been tested highley for dogs and cats, Negative on cheese (suspected cheese) and my white blood cell count is normal. we own two cats but i keep the bedroom cat free. Anyway I take Zrytec once a day followed by two Zantacs, the other day at work i had pizza and a twix bar, and gardettos was the last i had before i left. As we got back into town i noticed my lip was swellin again. Got inside, ate the same left over pizza and watched the red wing cup game and noticed my whole face and head was swelling up. I didn't want to go to the ER for a steroid shot again, since i was breathing fine, i also took two benardyls. Anyway woke up this morning hives all over my legs, part of arms, also noticed my joint on my left leg is sore, hard to bend and my face is still swollen. Im guessin its side effects from zyrtec.
Also wanted to point out that i used to take loradine (sp?) an allergy pill for months and was blaming that for my hive outbreak and swelling. I dont think its the cats. Allergist says its idopathic, but swelling on the head and lips, thats not normal. Last night was the worse swelling on the forehead head in a long time and face and lips. My whole head was numb. I was nervous also cuz a few weeks ago i got a concussion but i doubt that has anything to do with it. Could be sideeffects to the pills i take or food. Help!
This is why I think its not the cats. My hand is getting red at work and im gettin hive on my lower hand and my knuckles are red a bit. Now i really don't think the cats are triggering this since im not at home right now. Only thing i ate today was a chicken sandwich from BK. There are sites that indicate Benardyl and Zyrtecs side effects resulting in swelling of face, tounge and lips and whatever else and hives. I also guessed it was the laundry detergent but I use purex free from dye and purfume.
ici replied: "Our symptoms sound so alike! I was on Zytec for a year and then my allergies stopped. Now they're back again. Skin test didn't work, I don't know what else to do. I don't think the hives is a side effect of the medication, I think it's the allergies. Swollen lips, joints, face....I've had it all. My ankle gets so swollen at times that I can't even walk. I wish the doctors could figure out what i'm allergic to."

Allergychat.org replied: "I'm not a doc, so keep that in mind. I can tell you I have taken both Zyrtec and Zantac w/no side effects. Further, I've never heard of side effects like you're describing.
Keep in mind that Twix has peanut butter, I believe. Benadryl will only be a short fix. You would have to keep on H1 & H2 blockers to keep the hives down.
IMO, Idiopathic just means the doc hasn't figured out what's causing the reactions. Some don't have the time or you're not providing enough information to narrow it down.
I would get a note book. I would only eat things you think are safe. I would remove the cats. Then reintroduce things one at a time and see your reactions. Reactions can take time too. Don't expect them all to be immediate.
Good luck
Edit: Remember stress can add to hives as well.

What are some of the Side effects of zyrtec on toddlers? My 2 year old is taking Zyrtec. It has been amazing at reducing his allergy symptoms. However, he has been extremely irritable. I was wondering if this could be Zyrtec-related or just a coincidence. Any other parents out there notice the same sort of side effects?
-+-|oNe|-+- replied: "You shouldnt be really giving zyrtec to toddlers. They are too young to have a medicine that is too strong for there bodies. One possible side effect is allergic reactions, another is becoming sick."
cplowgian replied: "Biggest side effect of drugs of that class is drowsiness and are largely safe and effect for allergies. However, officially these drugs are not tested for children, so the answer is check with your doctor first. (but are used in children often)"
FreddyBoy1 replied: "The most common side effects seen in studies with ZYRTEC-D 12 HOUR® Extended Release Tablets include:

Side effects from pseudoephedrine (active ingriedient) are not common, but they can occur. They include:
nervousness, excitability, restlessness, dizziness, weakness, insomnia, convulsions, fast or irregular
heartbeat, tremors, palpitations...
Your child and Zyrtec...
Nervousness, excitability and restlessness are listed...so I'd say yes, it could be a side effect."
mcm_soc_girl replied: "I have a 13 month old son who is also taking Zyrtec. I was not able to find any information that pertained solely to toddlers, but did find the general side effects. They are as follows:
Drowsiness, sleepiness, dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, increased appetite, and nausea may occur. These effects should subside as your body adjusts to the medication. If they continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop any of these serious effects while taking this medication: chest pain, rash, trouble breathing. This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
Hope that it helps."
cuppcr98 replied: "If your 2 year old has become moody since taken this medication it is most likely due to the drug. As a parent of a 2 year old, I would be cautious about giving my toddler any drug. Most allergies are due to a weak immune system. You might want to suppliment your toddlers diet with vitamins and research foods that are high in antioxidants to week your child off of the drug and onto a more natural path to wellness. If you would like some help with this I can be of assistance. At any rate, Zyrtec is a prescribed antihistimine and should only be taken if the doctor has cleared it for your 2 year old."
