Singulair 5mg Posts in Questions
My 8 year old son is asthmatic and on seretide 50 twice a day and singulair 5mg tablets? He has started to gain weight at a very fast rate he is also hungry all the time, do you think this could be due to the medication that he is on?

nert61 replied: "Yes. Steroid based medication can have an effect on weight - either gaining or losing. Ask your doctor about the brand new Alvesco inhaler (I've just been put on it) which is brilliant - just two puffs in the morning. It's still a steroid though. Other than that, he's could be just a healthy growing lad. But go back to the docs anyway."

Human replied: "use Natural Rock Salt Lamp near ur child. find out more info at by typing Salt Lamps and search. it really works, Trust Me !"

iklegem789 replied: "My sister is on similar stuff. This could be due to the medication he is on as these are steriods. The best thing to do is arrange an asthma check with a nurse or doc and see if they can change the meds and check that it is not something else."

mehrnaz k replied: "yes steroids cuase gaining weigth and increasing apetite. you can somehow defeat this adverse affect by controling the calory of his food (eating fibers like vegtables instead of high calory foods!) and want him to have much more activity."

Natalie P replied: "Ive been on that for at least 7 years and I've gained weight and want 2 eat allot but I've learned to control it but i am 27 so i am alot older. Its because its got steroids in and they make you eat. contact your doctor or nurse there they will give u some advice. Hope you this as helped xx"

avinash c replied: "use ganoderma lucidium, I have my own experience with this wonderful herb , a lot of reserach is going on all over the world over this herb you can search on google."

Is there a new alternative to Singulair asthma medicine? Maybe even generic? I am an adult and only take the 5mg childs portion plus I take Seritide. And again, the minimum mg's offered. I am trying to save some money here. I only take these at night before I go to bed...

Sasha replied: "Hi, I'm wondering if you simply don't need a review by a doctor. The Seritide is combination drug--one with a steroid and bronchodilator. The Singulair is also a bronchodialator. It is a different sort than the one Seritide (that one is a slower, but longer lasting one). Singulair is swift. Singulair is a "rescue" inhaler--not meant to be used every day, only when you need it. For daily maintenance, the Seritide is meant to hold you. I'd definately ask for a review or the ok to trial using the Singulair as when you need it. But to answer your question--I did find that you could order the generic singulair on line. It is not being produced in US/UK/Can due to patent restrictions but you can get it shipped in....sounds a bit dodgy to me. Please chat with your doc about the regimen you are on and if he isn't a pulmonolgist or lung specialist chappie then I'd go and find one."

ckm1956 replied: "I love it when people answer & are way off base. Singulair is a PILL, not an inhaler. It's designer for regular use. It's not a "rescue" med. To answer your question, there's no generic for Sngulair. It's too new. If cost is a problem, look at for a program to help with the csot."
