Jesi replied: "I've taken a lot of medications in the past for bi-polar, anxiety, depression, and paranoid schizophrenia . But I took the regular Zoloft and it didn't really help me. Actually to be honest no medications ever worked for me. So ended up stoping all of them and worked on everything myself. And when I felt anxious or nervous I would smoke some weed, and I would clam down. It helped me relax and feel better. And honestly that's the only thing that has ever helped. You probably don't want to do that because weed is looked down upon, but it's not half as bad as alcohol. Alcohol, makes people depressed, weed makes people happy. Alcohol makes people angry, weed makes people..well...happy. Alcohol makes people drive drunk and potentially kill people, weed makes people too lazy to even think about driving. Alcoholic fathers and mothers abuse their children, pothead mothers and fathers usually don't and are more mellow and understanding. It should be legal, and alcohol shouldn't."

BUCK OFAMA replied: "I've taken it but I don't have a success story for you. Sorry. Xanax works the best for me."

PattyAnn replied: "I take it every day. It's much cheaper and has the same formula as Zoloft. It is working very well. I've never had a minute of trouble with it, and I feel it's a success. Don't be afraid of it. I don't even know you but I want you to have some help with your panic. If you don't take it, you will never know how it can help you. Nothing bad will happen. At the very worst you may need to increase dosage, but you should have no side effects. Good luck to you. Take a pill! :-)"

Sertraline Zoloft? Sertraline Zoloft? I am currently taking, sertraline, generic of Zoloft. I want to know other people's experience. I am doing 25 mg and will increase to 50 mg next week. I'm not gonna post how it's affecting me (good or bad) but i just want other people's experiences, warnings, and ways to cope with some issues that could come up. Was it good for you? Success stories know family that takes it etc. Thanks

charisse t replied: "Ive been taking sertaline for 1 1/2 years now. It actually calms me down I don't get so upset anymore. I can tell if i don't take it, I get very nervous and shaky. My family Dr. put me on this when I found out I had cancer. Its really help me deal with alot of issues. Hope it works for you, if the side effects bother you or it makes you feel strange, go back to your Dr. and have him prescribe something else for you. Sometimes certain anti-depressants effect people differently and they cant take them. Good luck to you."

Kristen replied: "I have been on zoloft for a while now and am taking the generic since it became available. I have had no problems with it, I have had to go up on the strength a few times due to stressful things going on in my family. I am currently taking 200 mg daily and will go back down eventually. I also take it to help my migraines and I have had very few since taking it"

Sertraline and Sperm Counts???? My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years now, for our first baby, with no luck. We are both young, don't drink, don't smoke, or take drugs, are very fit (marathon running!) and eat a generally healthy diet. My husband has been on antidepressants for pretty much the same amount of time, Sertraline, a low dose of 50mg. It has just come back he has a low sperm count, and the doctors are saying it could be his meds. But they don't tell you this before you start taking them! Now we've been told that he will have to come off them and wait at least six months for the counts to 'possibly' rise to normal, if it is the meds that are causing the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you overcome it? Did you have any success??

Fidi replied: "i have a friend in the same shoes. No-one warned them that anti-depressnts can cause low count. As far as i know it only tahes 100 days approx which is close to 3 months to bea at least healthy enough. I would seek help from a fertility specialist and see if they can help. They will probably start you with IUI or something...good luck!!!"

shannon replied: "I am a marathon runner/long distance runner. I have done a lot of research on endurance running and TTC. A lot of doctors recommend stopping running 3 months before ttc because endurance running can delay ovulation or stop it all together. Actually, there are a lot of runners who use running as a form of birth control. I know this doesn't have anything to do with Zoloft and sperm count, but I saw that you said you are a runner and I thought you might want a little on info on it. Good luck!"

Upping your dose Sertraline / Zoloft? did it help? Has anyone started on one dose and then upped it with success? I've been taking 50mg for 4 weeks. I've been feeling down again for the last 2 weeks, my doc says to increase the dose from 50-100 mg as lower dose doesn;t always work on everyone. Just wanted to anyone's experience, Thanks

sydney486 replied: "hey. I am currently taking Zoloft 150mg. I started off taking 50mg and got really bad headaches, after a week they went away. But I kept upping my dose every 2 weeks because I saw no improvement, even after being on it for a month+. There is no harm in increasing the dose if the doctor said it was okay to, but I would increase by 50mg every couple of weeks because of the side effects. I am now on 150mg and feel 100% better than I did when I was on 50mg. Everyone is different though, so I hope you will have luck. Hope this helps! :)"

Ahorn replied: ""With all of the different depression and anxiety prescriptions available on the market, there are quite a few that have serious side effects that are sometimes worse than the depression itself." I would recommend you to watch following DVD that is available online if you have fast internet. It's told by psychiatrists, psychologists and people who worked for pharmaceutical companies. It informs you - beside other things - about side effects that are not often being told by psychiatrists. It also suggests an alternative in the end. When you then make a decision to take antidepressants, you may be better prepared, educated and understand what's going on when you encounter some bad side effects. I would say that these information are actually vital. The link sounds a little scary - that’s because many antidepressants have suicidal thoughts and impulses as side effects which you can also read inside the pack of some antidepressants. and alternatively school "

Getting off Sertraline (Zoloft) again? I've been treated for major depression on and off for about 6 years now. Started with Bupropion (Wellbutrin) and I thought it was working very well. The only thing was at that time, you had to take WellbutrinSR, which needs to be taken twice daily. Now there is WellbutrinXL which can be taken once daily. The regular Wellbutrin needed three daily doses. I was taking 150mg twice a day, which is a pretty standard dose. A year later, they told me I needed to get off. I stopped "cold turkey". A year went by and my depression was back. They put me on Zoloft, 100 mg per day, again a pretty standard dose. It never worked all that much. I was off it within a year and had several years of serious mental problems. Last year, I got back on it just as I was getting my life back together on my own, but my doctor thought 50 mg a day might improve my chance of success. I don't know if it is the meds or me. They want to take me off again. With Zoloft, I spent two weeks on half a dose before quitting. If I am to go to 25mg, I'd like to do it more slowly than 2 weeks. To be honest, I want to get back on Wellbutrin, which really helped the most and I don't know why they took me off it in the first place. Any thoughts as to what to do?

Sightseeing replied: "Your doctor should listen to what you want to do. It all sounds reasonable to me. I didn't find Zoloft helped me at all either. My doctor told me not to just stop taking it. I did anyway. No bad side effects (but I usually don't have many problems with meds except they don't work). I had gone through every SSRI. Prozac worked great for 5 years, then stopped. Lexapro was about 30% effective. My doctor put me on a tricyclic which made me feel sick. I told him I wanted to go back on the Lexapro and he told me how to go off the tricyclic (this time I did listen) and went back on Lexapro. I've found that especially some of the older psychiatrist don't view choosing medications as a team process. And I think a good psychiatrist has to listen to your reasons for wanting or not wanting to take a particular medication. Since you are the best person to know how your mood is (there is no blood test) you have to say what you think works and doesn't. And you have to explain to the doctor if a medication is causing you untolerable side effects. Good Luck!"

any luck with st johns wort - antidepressants dont work? been on paroxetine and sertraline and they both sucked - can st john's wort be effective? my doctor suggested maybe, but i was cynical ... any success stories from st johns? i dont instantly take what a doctor says as gospel, so id like to hear what others have thought and any tips re: dosage thanks moderate depression but horrendous anxiety

Molly replied: "In general, I do not think that St. John's Wart is effective. I think there are rare cases that it is. I think in those cases, the person believes that it will work, so it did."

bryo4321 replied: "I worked at a pharmacy for years, and have heard it all... I really think the effectiveness depends on the person. There are definitely lots of people out there who've taken St. John's Wort and swear by it. In any case, it's safer than rx drugs, and can't hurt to try. You may have to stay on it awhile to see if it's working. In regards to doctors' opinions on alternative med treatments like this, I have almost universally heard that they say the same thing: may or may not work, see if it works for you."

xxxx replied: "try other antidepressants- there are plenty out there. i tried practically everything on the market until I found the single drug that works for me. For anxiety, try specific anti-anxiety meds like lorazepam or clonazepam- talk to your doc about it. I found even good ol' benadryl helps with anxiety."

Sertraline Zoloft? I am currently taking, sertraline, knock off of Zoloft. I want to know other people's experience. I am doing 25 mg and will increase to 50 mg next week. I'm not gonna post how it's affecting me but i just want other people's experiences, warnings, and ways to cope with some issues that could come up. Was it good for you? C replied: "Sertraline is not a knock off, its the generic form of Zoloft. You will probably not notice any effects for the first 2-4 weeks, so dont be discouraged right away. In addition, be aware of any thoughts of or increased thoughts of suicide and report it immediately to your doctor."

honeychild_star replied: "Zoloft is wonderful. I took it for nearly 5 years and it made me feel so much better, never had any side effects apart from finally feeling happy and wanting to live. As the previous person said, you wont notice anything until about a month but stay on it, it doesnt happen overnight, but one day you will sit and think "wow i havent actually felt depressed for a while". Zoloft is a great first medication for anyone because most people respond to it well! Good Luck."

unclemax0 replied: "I've been taking 100 mg. per day for about 6 months. On the plus side, I find that sertraline has significantly reduced my stress and anxiety. Whereas I thought my job was terribly stressful, after starting sertraline I discovered all that stress was coming from within myself. The job is now a piece of cake and nothing (much) gets me stressed out. On the negative side, it hasn't really done much to alleviate my depression beyond what I described above. Also, there are some side effects which you probably already know about. Loss of interest in sex is one of the best known side effects, but this may occur more with men than with women. I experience muscle pain and weakness along with constant fatigue. The slightest bit of physical exertion seems to tire me out to the point that I just have to sit down and rest. I wasn't experiencing this prior to taking the sertraline. I hope this information is helpful to you."

Pitter replied: "I have been on Zoloft since 1993. I take 200 mg a day. It helps me a lot. When I started taking it and when my dose was upped I had a few side effects. They were not intolerable. Like I will sweat easier now, at first I had a slight shakiness in my hands (I was the only one to notice), and gas. It allows me to function in everyday life. I sleep a lot when I'm depressed. I'm not as negative, not so quick-tempered and I can concentrate better. When I first started it I couldn't take it before bed because it made it hard to go to sleep, so I take it in the day. So my experience is great! Good luck!"

~♥~CaTo~♥~ replied: "I have been talking the exact same medication for close to a year now but I am on 150mg a day becoz the lower doses weren't working. All in all it has been a very effective treatment for anxiety and depression and I haven't had many troubles with it. The side affects of it aren't horrible and thankfully are short lived, there are not any long term side affects. In my case I had what they call restless muscles in my legs for two weeks after I started taking it which just meant at night my legs felt funny and it stopped me from sleeping. Other than that I was a lil dizzy and had a bit of trouble crying but that's all. It has defiantly helped my situation and it's quite a good drug..."

askios007 replied: "I take 150 mg of Serlift (same as Zoloft) at the moment (was on 100 mg until last week but feel the higher dose is helping me cope better through a current stressful phase). Have been on it since 1999. When I first started, I lost a ton of weight, and felt a bit spaced out. Also my mind would race and keep me up all night (but when I told the doc we changed the time for taking the med from after dinner, to after breakfast, and this problem disappeared after that). I have NO problems with it, although I do wish I would be more proactive with things like exercise, stress management, and diet, because I feel then I would probably be able to go down to a lower dose. 25 mg is a low dose, in fact 50 mg is about the standard. 150 up is considered "high dose". It takes about a week or couple of weeks before the med settles in I think. Oh one very important thing, I discovered that alcohol doesn't go well with Zoloft and brings down its effectiveness. And recreational drugs like hash or grass will REALLY not go down well and make you feel Quite Awful. Also from what I've read, Zoloft works well for people with depression and anxiety, PTSD that sort of thing. The abuse survivors I know who are also on it, find it works well."

It took a few months before I realized that it wasn't working for me, and my doctor bumpted me up to 50mg, and it's working much better. Sometimes I feel like it's not working at all - and I think it's a good idea just to keep your doctor in the loop, and to express how your feeling to him - or even your friends maybe. It helps to talk things out. Well for me it does. My friend has also been prescribed it - but I don't know if he is taking it, coz he was a bit hesitant at first. But it's there to help you, not to hinder you. :-)"

The Glorious S.O.B. replied: "I am currently taking 50 mg. I've been on Zoloft since 2001 & have had various doses over time. So far, I just pop a pill each morning & I don't feel any significant side effects, sometimes if I 4get for one day. Also, I'm a manic/depressive & see a psychiatrist and therapist every 1 or 2 mos. I also take Seroquel to complement the Zoloft's effect, which is also more potent 'cause it makes me drowsy."
