Questions and Answers
Anyone here had any problems with seroquel? I've been on it for about 4 months and it seems like my whole body has went out of whack.

versantly replied: "call your doctor for an appointment to explain your side effects, not Yahoo."

pigsfly replied: "i have been on it before. it really put me in a zombie stae. i recommened getting of of it if it is effecting u in wierd ways. talk to whoever prescribed it to you about trying a different medication. tell them about ur problems with seroquel"

Yeah Right replied: "Well I like this question and I can tell you first hand, YES, I have had problems with Seroquel.....indeed your body does feel out of whack, mine did at least too. And also, the main reason I did not want to take it is because I was hallucinating and seeing things. Just made me feel really weird and paranoid. But I always went to sleep shortly after like you are supposed to when taking Seroquel.....are you? If not, then that might be part of the reason you are feeling out of whack. Hope this helps and please see your doctor as soon as possible to discuss this matter! :)"

claudy_kay replied: "Please don't get off seroquel suddenly on your own. My friend was on it for 4 months and she had some serious side effects even with a gradual reduction. Good Luck."

paul s replied: "it made me gain a load of weight."

kay replied: "hey its kay here Ive been on serequel for 2 years roughly and although I do think it has helped me I have put on alot of weight due to the medication I guess you have to weigh up whats more important to you speak to your doctor about xprexia that's another antiscotic you could think about but again it also has its side effects like weight gain I hope I could help it totally sucks taking all of these drugs just for some quality of life take care"

beachy replied: "go to, this is a very bad drug, try and get off of it, slowly tho."

I usually take Seroquel and Ambien for Sleep But I'm Having Problems? I've been a strict regimen of 400mg of Seroquel and 10mg of Ambien at night for sleeplessness. Sometime it works right away, I feel tired and ready for bed. At other times it seems to have no effect until maybe 2 or 3 hours later. Does anyone have an explanation?

steelsink747 replied: "You may need a higher dose, as your body gains a tolerance."

Simon W replied: "I take Ambien Zolpidem when I can get it, my doctor does not like me having it, it works quicker on an empty stomach."

I take 300mg of seroquel to sleep and now I have high cholesterol and low blood sugar problems any one else? I also take 150mg Wellbutrin, and 40 mg Celexa I have been on seroquel for 2 years. I am thinking about getting off of this drug, I have gained 30 pounds and can't seem to get it off. Any advice would help, I see my dr. next week.

catwoman1314 replied: "You should be getting routine blood tests.300 mg is a high dose."

michael replied: "you should drink alot of water and try to stay away from cheap foods (snacks, microwavable things etc)"

ll <3 II replied: "Ah, so THAT may be why I have high chloresterol! I take 450mg. 300mg is not a very high dose but I take it for a mental illness (bipolar disorder) My sugar is fine though. Yeah, it's also hard to lose weight on seroquel but I was sick last week and lost 7 pounds. Don't eat things that have any chloresterol in them if it's possible, always read labels."

Can Seroquel cause dental problems? I read somewhere that Seroquel can cause dental problems, but I can not find any information to support this - anyone know anything about this? I have had lots of dental problems since I've been on it and never had any before.

haweesay replied: "Go to wedmd.com It is a great place for any medical questions you have."

Marguerite replied: "Some meds poop out over time. Call your doc. He/she may raise the dose or change the medication. Your situation is not unusual."

Problems with Seroquel (Quetiapine)? Hi I am on seroquel, 300mg in the morning and 400mg at night, I have been on this dose for 6 years now. I am also on carbamazepine 500mg twice a day and atarax as well as a load of other meds. The main issue is the seroquel, whenever I take it I get really breathless and obviously sleepy and generally wasted, I have spoken to my doctor about it but I am just being told its normal, when I spoke to my psychiatrist about it she said it wasn't? So I am confused and concerned. I also get a fluttering feeling in my chest and it makes me really panicky but all tests I have had haven't been whilst its happening and they say its not my heart its just a sensation, the worst part is for about 45 mins after taking it I have to move, if I don't its like torture its such a unbearable feeling until I am finally driven to move. I seem to get more side effects as I go on. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these problems, whether it was normal and if you have found anything that helps then I would sure appreciate any coping tips you have. Thank you x Yeah its a high dose but the max is 800mg so I am just under it.

Psychicholiday replied: "It may help to get more second options from the professionals. All though they may be qualified you can find incompetent doctors who need to be struck off the register."

nailtech replied: "My husband had trouble with seroquel as well. It seems like you are taking an awful high dosage! He has taken it since 2003 along with trileptal and an anti-depressant. I think you should be concerned and seek a second or third opinion if you have to. The most I have ever heard of anyone taking was 300 mg total per day. Something isnt right here...."

funn g replied: "agreeied"

Mary Jane replied: "The problem is with how much your taking! That dose is WAY too high! I only take 150mg for sleep at night. But I am on 4 other psychiatric medicines."

Lori replied: "The maximum safe daily dosage of Seroquel is 800 mg/day. I have worked with a pt on 800mg/day. It barely affected him. He took 400mg in the am and 400 at night. I would contact your doctor regarding the side effects."

taking seroquel, having problems? hi i take seroquel for bipolar disorder. since ive been taking this. every night when i take it before bed, i have symptoms of racing heart...then going to slow heart beat, weakness, inability to catch my breath. and pain in the head and chest. ive been on it for a year. and the symptoms seem to have gotten worse over time. is this common with seroquel, and am i in any danger? i always have pain when my heart beats ..a little... kinda normal for me. ne response would be greatly appreciated! :>

twaah28 replied: "these are the common side effects whether they are normal or expected depends. i would recommend you telling your doctor so he can make note of it and possibly prescribe you something else >10%: Central nervous system: Somnolence (18% to 34%; extended release ≤52%), sedation (30%), headache (17% to 21%), agitation (6% to 20%), dizziness (9% to 18%), extrapyramidal symptoms (8% to 12%) Endocrine & metabolic: Triglycerides increased (14% to 23%), cholesterol increased (9% to 16%) Gastrointestinal: Xerostomia (9% to 44%), weight gain (dose-related; 5% to 23%), appetite increased (5%; extended release <5% to 12%)"

suzanne_una replied: "You need to talk to the doctor ASAP. It could be a dose issue or you may need to be put on something else. It sounds like you are definitely having some of the known side effects so only your doctor can decide if the symptoms are too much or if you are in danger."

Why does seroquel give me a stuffy nose? I am prescribed seroquel as a sleep aid. It works very very well and is not habit forming like ambien. The only problem is that Seroquel completely clogs my nose making it impossible to breathe through my nose. What if any are the solutions to this problem as this is very very annoying.

Az R replied: "This is actually pretty common when you're using seroquel the first couple times. It goes away quite rapidly though. It's because of Seroquel's operation on the histamine systems in the body. One person I know described it as someone pouring quick-set cement into his nose the first time he took it. Double check with your doctor, but you may be able to mix in an OTC decongestant to help things. Like I mentioned though, I've never heard of this not going away after about a week."

muddypuppyuk replied: "Side Effect...... .."

AbeLincolnParty replied: "If the only reason to use it is as a sleeping aid then a much safer drug like the antihistamine in benadryl in place of it should be considered. Seroquel is classified as an atypical antipsychotic drug, it is a powerful drug which promotes serious side effects, including diabetes. The topic of sleep hygiene in the Merck Manual might be helpful: "

Does anyone know if it's safe to take Seroquel and Prozac together? I used to take Prozac for depression and Seroquel for sleep problems. But I always took them at different times until I stopped, and now I am concerned for my health. Are there any side effects to take these two medicine together?

sokokl replied: "I would recommend getting in touch with your pharmacist as well to see."

mR. CA$H replied: "talk to your doctor"

wes m replied: "you can call wall greens or any 24 hour pharmacy and explain the situation or you can call poison controll ( should be in the front of the phone book ) and ask them . If you are taking seroquel just to sleep I would suggest trying a melatonin supplement I have insomnia and it puts me out without the hangover of seroquel the next day and it is safer than seroquel and you can buy it at most drug stores or at health food stores like GNC"

Snazzlefrazz replied: "Yes, but only under a doctor's supervision. They are in two different classes of medication and there have been no studies saying they counteract each other. Antidepressants and antipsychotics are calmly prescribed together. I have worked with several clients that were on both and I myself have been on both together with no side-effects, nor long-term effects. If you have further questions I advise you to talk to your doctor. Take Care"

skunk pie replied: "If your doctor prescribed both, it's okay."

starrrrgazer replied: "I was prescribed these together in the past with no ill side effects. Do check with your doc or pharmacist, but if you are getting them at the same pharmacy, the pharmacist is aware you are taking both and would have said something to you or called your doc if it was a problem."

gothicragdolly replied: "I take Prozac, Seroquel, Lithium, and Risperidal together. I havent had any problems but again it is always BEST to ask your Phsychiatrist because everyone is different and these medications effect everyone differently. Why did you stop taking them? You shouldnt just STOP taking them either because this could make things worse. Your body is trying to gain a balance and that just throws it off."
