Hair Loss trying a med called Propecia does this work or no? Hi, I need some help with my problem, at 24 years old i start to loss my hair, now at 30 years i lost a lot, 2 weeks ago i went to a hair transplant doctor,he said try a pill called Propecia. Is this pill any good? Does it help? As any one seeing hair grow back or lossing more? Any one had any bad side affects from this med? Thanks for any help.

KatUTex replied: "I worked in a pharmacy for many years, and a lot of men swear by their Propecia, I heard many good things about it. I also know a man in his late 20s and it has stopped his hair loss from progressing."

l3arc0de replied: "nothing is going to make your hair grow back.. The propecia will in a lot of cases slow or stop the progression of hair loss. It doesn't work for all men but i have heard a lot of good things about it. I have also heard that the rogaine and propecia in combination works well."

Mukunda M replied: "Do An ANSWERS search and you will find Propecia users all say it has not helped. After many years of research and self experimentation this was the only natural treatment I found that stops thinning and loss almost straight away and also produces new growth. My hair has completely regrown on crown. Where receded at front regrowth has been slower, but has virtually grown back to original hair line and though sparse at beginning, each month it became denser. Massage thoroughly with natural oils - olive oil is excellent - then using a palm held short bristled brush (soft natural boar bristles) brush vigorously so you really feel it stimulating scalp (90 /100 strokes or even more each day focusing on where loss is). After scalp adjusts you can increase brushing to 150 strokes. Will unplug blocked hair ducts indicated by painful small spots like pimples and a cause of hair loss and It will grow faster, thicker and It will force the new growth. Brushing before you apply oil is equally OK. A little shedding and breakage may occur at first but quickly stops as hair gets better anchored and stronger. Initially hairs will be weak looking and sparse. Don't be concerned if brushing uproots them as they will re-appear even stronger. It demands perseverance week in, week out to get the same results. I've found most do not persevere and so fail to get them. But have heard from some who have had equal if not better success. One of main causes of loss are harmful shampoos and even more harmful dandruff shampoos and too frequent washing. Do a Google to find safe, non harmful products then shop for them at GNC, Trader Joes, Wegmans, Cost plus, Earth Fare, some Walmart stores, and natural health stores. Genetics probably are a factor in hair loss. My immediate family members have severe loss. I believe this treatment saved me from the same fate. Try it you will be happy that you did! How can I prevent inflamation from finasteride/Propecia? It's happened to me twice already...once with Avodart (dutasteride) and now with finasteride (generic Propecia). After a year or so I start to get all kinds of inflammation problems. These are: -dull ache in prostate -pain in left knee -pain in left testicle/epydidimitis Aspirin or other anti-inflammatories help, but what other options are there short of stopping fin altogether? Current dose is .25 mg daily.

Thomas replied: "What makes you think its the propecia. The only side effects listed are an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Other, less serious side effects have been reported but usually resolve with continued treatment. Continue to take finasteride and notify your doctor if you experience decreased libido (sex drive); decreased volume of ejaculate; impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection); or breast tenderness or enlargement. I have been taking for 3 years and am very satisfied. You may want to go to a urologist, or a new urologist"

Side effects of PROPECIA - Hair loss? Hi, i've got two options, roll with it and end up looking like telly savalas or try and do something about it!!! I'm trying option 2 - so i went to a hair loss consultancy who gave me propecia. Problem is that i only started looking into this medication after i bought it and i dont like the feedback!!!! It says upto 2% of users can become infertile, low libido and lots of other side effects - well i just got married and am trying for a child and the last thing i want is to inadvertently affect our chances of having children by taking this drug. All the feedback i see suggests that perhaps ONLY 2% DONT SUFFER WITH SIDE EFFECTS rather than what the consultants would say which is 2% only have side effects!!!! Do you know much about it???? If so, can you advise please??? Many thanks.

ziggy replied: "Hi there - you don's say why you're in this situation so I'm going to advise on a general basis ..... I'm a woman who suffered hair loss after an RTA in 1989 - alopecia totalis - I don't know of this product, but was at the time recommended another similar product with the same kind of feed back ...... I would like to suggest two things to you: 1. don't use the product - especially with it having any kind of side effects, your life and quality of life is far more important 2. try re-kickstarting your body into working as it did before .... review your vitamins and minerals intake - I did, o'ding on everything except vitamins A and D ..... 18monts later my hair came back better than it was before! but not necessarily all the colour..... However I did, during my 18months of total baldness find how much of 'puller' being without head hair can be! I was certainly shocked and it totally changed my way of considering how the world viewed me ... now then ... if a woman can do this!...... So my advice would be to enjoy your life and make the best of your looks - without hair - I'm certain your wife loved/loves you regardless of what was sitting on your head ..... and besides if my estimation is right - she'll be spending more time fighting off the competition!!!"

ader replied: "Ask yourself this question: Would you rather have no hair and have a child who you can bring up? Or you could ask the other question: Would you rather have hair and not have a child to watch through life? Baldness is not necessarily bad! Think of other people, your wife will also want a child, and she still loves you, bald or with hair. So if I were you, I'd go for the child!"

Any men taking propecia experiencing sexual dysfunction? I have taken propecia for over a year and am afraid its causing ED. Any other men with the same problem? If you have stopped taking it, did your sexual performance improve?

RxJessD24 replied: "Sexual side effects are one of the main reasons men quit taking propecia. If you are having problems you should talk to your dr about quitting because these side effects are real and don't make life any better (who likes to go without sex?). You should be fine after you quit but it might take a bit for the drug to get completely out of your system."

Thomas replied: "I have been taking propecia for around 3 years with no sexual side effects. It does state that a side effect of taking propecia can be sexual but also states the if you quit taking the product the problem is solved. You may just have E.D. irregardless of the Propecia but the only way to know is to come off of it and so what happens. You may want to change your supplier if you are getting it overseas. has listed some good sources for high quality discounted propecia."

Propecia, does it increment the hair loss? I use it since three months (though I don't have major problems, just a very very lightly receding hairline), but I did not notice any improvement, it seems even that made me lose more hair............Is it my impression or is it true?

Crestor and/or Propecia (Finasteride) Cause Memory Loss? My father has recently had some minor issues with memory loss such as forgetting simple conversations, or misplacing items. More than normal, and more than enough to take notice by me, his son. He has recently started taking (2) new medicines. Crestor for high cholesterol and Propecia or Finasteride for minor prostate problems. Is anyone currently taking these medications or previously taken these medications and had similar side effects such as memory loss, or a moment of confusion, forgetting conversations, etc? Or does anyone in the medical field think this could be related to old age (He's 62), or maybe something more serious such as alzheimers? Thanks

Can the combination of Suboxone and Propecia cause low to no semen when one ejaculates? I have just gone on suboxone about 2 months ago for help getting off off opiods. Although my sex drive was lowered during the time I was on oxycodone, my semen level was close to the same as before I began taking the oxycodone. It was when I switched to the Subs that my sex drive diminished and my semen became non-existant. I have been on the Propecia for about 6 years now with no previous problems. I know that there are sexual side effects of Propecia, however, I have never experienced such problems throughout my 6 years of use for hair loss. I have looked for the low to no semen side effect in just suboxone alone but only found people who had lowered sex drive and ED, along with some people who are having trouble urinating. Are my side effect experiences something abnormal or do you think that the combination of two drugs that are known to have sexual side effects are to blame?

Mary H replied: "I think that's something to ask your doctor about."

Chad S replied: "If you are not looking to impregnate her, wouldn't that be a good thing?"
