As far as weight gain, my drug book actually says to monitor for weight loss. Also, monitor your blood pressure while taking this drug. From November 2001 - when I started taking the Paxil - to November 2002 - I'd gained 70 lbs. My metabolism was altered greatly...and I was terribly lethargic. Up to the next summer - 2003, I gained another 15 lbs - total gain 85 /90 lbs. Erection: Took forever to get one......and once I did, took forever to ejaculate.....and then, it wasn't 'that much'. Really talk it over with your doctor.........is there another medication you can take? Is it for depression or just anxiety.... I don't like Paxil - weened myself off of it (and you can't stop cold turkey). Once I was off of it for a month, the weight started melting off of me. I went from a 195 lb 32 in. waisted man to a 280 lb 46 waisted man and back down to a 190/195 lb man with a 32 waist (this is my current size and measurement) What a roller coaster. Don't take Paxil if you can help it. I might suggest daily exercise - that'll boost the endorphins...and give you a great feeling. What is the best Anti deppressaant for Ocd anxiety and deppresion and has no sexual side effects. forget Paxil? I took paxil for 5 years 20 mg and it is full of sexual side effects. Anything but paxil.

Does Sexual Side Effects Due to Paxil Go Away if You Stop the Medicine? I have taken Paxil for 5-6 years and I recently got married and I was wondering if these sexual side effects will go away if I stop Paxil. I am worried because I have been on the medicine for so long.

So, you might find a decreased interest in sex because your emotions are not as easily regulated as they were on Paxil. I would discuss it with your psychiatrist to make sure you are ready to come off. Do it gradually too, you don't want to make yourself sick."

Kylie replied: "I had the same issue, and I spoke to my doctor about it.. I don't know of any contradicting drug, nor am I sure that's a very good idea. She put my on Lexapro and my sex drive came right back! (Maybe not quite as strong as before, but still much better than the zilch it was while on Paxil)... Other than that, while I was on it, I would force myself to go ahead and have sex w/my boyfriend, and would find that I was in the mood once we started things up, I just had to get over that "I don't really feel like it.." thing first.. also perhaps talk to your partner and ask them if, since you're experiencing this issue, if they'd be willing to initiate some things that specifically turn you on, so that it'll get you interested. Does Paxil cause the severe sexual side effects that Prozac does? I asked my Dr to take me off prozac as it seemed to be causing far more negative side effects ( ie complete loss of sex drive, insomnia, anxiety extreme) So she put me on Paxil?? I think there are only a couple anti-depression meds that don't have sexual side affects (because they're not SSRIs). Wellbutrin is the only one I can think of."

busymom4boyz replied: "the side effect I experienced with paxil is the loss of emotion and lack of sex drive. it actually does not cause problems with anxiety that is what I was treated for was anxiety attacks. It did give me dry mouth also. I was on it for about a year....the lack of sex drive was a small price to pay for not having anxiety attacks though."

Has anyone NOT have sexual side effects from Paxil? Is it possible to not expirience all side effects with paxil. such as sexual side effects??? There are many people who have had the same experience as you - google it. There is a Yahoo group (unfortunately, i can't remember the name) with over 1000 subscribers who complain of sexual dysfunction (permanent) from SSRI usage - you will probably find Paxil users on that group, too. I switched pills a couple times and gave up, the libido was just not coming back. I then found a natural herbal enhancer that is supposed to increase your sex drive and a couple other things. However it's like an instant libido rush and as I kept using it my sex drive was through the roof and continues to be. Smartassawhip replied: "I wish I knew more. The Welbutrin you take has a low incidence of sexual side effects but those are common with Paxil. There is another antidepressant that also has a low incidence of sexual side effects. It is Serzone (nafazodone). Some people think it has been taken off the market but that's not true. There is still 1 manufacturer that makes a generic nefazodone, TEVA Pharmaceutical. Maybe you can switch from the Paxil to nefazodone? My x-wife had similar problems and her doctor tried her on progesterone, which tends to increase a woman's sexual desires, but unfortunately, she was unable to tolerate it due to severe headaches from it. I think most women can tolerate it OK. If you were a man I would recommend testosterone and Viagra. I don't know if Viagra would help a woman but your doctor should know. I have the same side effects from the Effexor I take so you have my empathy."

donttellme replied: "The only thing I know of is to switch to a different one-first choice is wellbutrin which you are already on-and use the PAxil fairly regularly if it helps, but take a "holiday" for the weekend or a day before the week end or so-for as long as you can tolerate being off it,until you feel some relief from the undesired side effect, then restart it."
