maxie replied: "Nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, diarrhea, trouble sleeping, constipation, or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, unusual or severe mental/mood changes, increased sweating/flushing, unusual fatigue, uncontrolled movements (tremor), decreased interest in sex. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: blurred vision, changes in sexual ability, painful and/or prolonged erection, change in amount of urine. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat, muscle pain, trouble swallowing, unusual swelling, seizures, easy bruising or bleeding, tingling or numbness of the hands/feet. An allergic reaction to Paroxetine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist."
Terry O replied: "Paxil will take one to two months before you know the effects, which can be many and varied for each individual. That is why it is given by a doctor's prescription so that the effects can be observed and the dosage adjusted properly. You will just have to find out how it affects you in the ways you mention, and then see how you can best manage the secondary effects."
RNinProgress replied: "First off drugs affect people differently and just because a side effect is listed does not mean that you will experience it, it only means that some people do. As far as weight gain, my drug book actually says to monitor for weight loss. If you do experience any of these side effects then talk to your doctor....do not stop taking the drug all of a sudden without talking to your doctor because this could cause bigger problems for you as your body chemistry is changed by this drug and stopping all of a sudden could make you have a severe depressive episode. Also, monitor your blood pressure while taking this drug. One more thing, many of the side effects of the drug is associated with people not taking it as directed so make sure you follow what your doctor has recommended and if you notice any behavior changes or physical symptoms report them immediately to your doctor. My best to you."

Wiz replied: "Why don't you ask your doctor???????????????"
S P replied: "All of this depends on you. I am on only 10mg of Paxil and have never had any sexual issues."
Doc Sex Machine replied: "The SSRI's side effects are good to actually make you last longer until you orgasm (good), but can lessen your sex drive and erection ability.
I believe will help you with the majority of the problems. There are erection strengthening exercises that help you get stronger erections. There are also natural ways to boost your sex drive/libido. Very useful info."
Big D replied: "I was mis-prescribed Paxil in late 2001 for an anxiety attack. I should've been prescribed a weeks worth of Xanax and left it at that.
From November 2001 - when I started taking the Paxil - to November 2002 - I'd gained 70 lbs. My metabolism was altered greatly...and I was terribly lethargic. Up to the next summer - 2003, I gained another 15 lbs - total gain 85 /90 lbs.
Erection: Took forever to get one......and once I did, took forever to ejaculate.....and then, it wasn't 'that much'.
Really talk it over with your doctor.........is there another medication you can take? Is it for depression or just anxiety....
I don't like Paxil - weened myself off of it (and you can't stop cold turkey). Once I was off of it for a month, the weight started melting off of me.
I went from a 195 lb 32 in. waisted man to a 280 lb 46 waisted man and back down to a 190/195 lb man with a 32 waist (this is my current size and measurement)
What a roller coaster. Don't take Paxil if you can help it. I might suggest daily exercise - that'll boost the endorphins...and give you a great feeling. That is what I have done for anxiety issues.......and I've been Paxil/Xanax free since 2003.....
Good luck to you."

Ms Cat replied: "Wellbutrin works well and doesn't have the sexual side effects. Unless you consider being MORE horny a side efect."
Kat replied: "Lexapro doesn't seem to have the side effects of some of the others at least for me."
Alice B replied: "Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

walking728 replied: "Sorry to tell you that most of current antidepressants, paxil, prozac, zoloft, wellbutrin, and cymbalta all contain a warning about possible side effects. I like cymbalta, but everybody reacts differently. Tell your doctor you want viagra or ciallis if the Axil works well on your depression. Nothing like ED to help you depression. The cure is more depressing than the depression."
Does Sexual Side Effects Due to Paxil Go Away if You Stop the Medicine? I have taken Paxil for 5-6 years and I recently got married and I was wondering if these sexual side effects will go away if I stop Paxil. I am worried because I have been on the medicine for so long.
Jody replied: "They should, but women's sexuality is more related to emotions than men's is. So, you might find a decreased interest in sex because your emotions are not as easily regulated as they were on Paxil. I would discuss it with your psychiatrist to make sure you are ready to come off. Do it gradually too, you don't want to make yourself sick."
fred_rogers replied: "Within about 60 days, it takes a while for the drug to purge from your system.
BUT... follow the directions about weaning yourself off the stuff. If you stop suddenly, the side effects are AWFUL."
hi everyone is there anything i can take with paxil anti deppressant to reduce sexual side effects? i would prefer not to get off paxil just would like to know if there are any natural remedies or other drugs i can combine. thanks everyone for your advice.
Kylie replied: "I had the same issue, and I spoke to my doctor about it.. I don't know of any contradicting drug, nor am I sure that's a very good idea. She put my on Lexapro and my sex drive came right back! (Maybe not quite as strong as before, but still much better than the zilch it was while on Paxil)...
Other than that, while I was on it, I would force myself to go ahead and have sex w/my boyfriend, and would find that I was in the mood once we started things up, I just had to get over that "I don't really feel like it.." thing first.. also perhaps talk to your partner and ask them if, since you're experiencing this issue, if they'd be willing to initiate some things that specifically turn you on, so that it'll get you interested.
Good luck to you, I know it's hard."
David R replied: "A good friend had excellent results by halving the dosage. The antidepressant still worked, and she had a sudden surge of sexual attraction."
daddysred replied: "Those symptoms went away for me after about 3 months. I am a female. I just kept at it and finally I could get off!! I think it starts as an actual physical side effect and becomes a mental one."
Does Paxil cause the severe sexual side effects that Prozac does? I asked my Dr to take me off prozac as it seemed to be causing far more negative side effects ( ie complete loss of sex drive, insomnia, anxiety extreme) So she put me on Paxil?? Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt it pretty much the same thing? Has anyone been on both and had less side effects with Paxil?
Erin W replied: "I was on Paxil and I forgot what sex was, it was horrible! Zoloft is better! Hope that helps and good luck!"
M G replied: "Paxill is the same type of thing. I had best results on Wellbutrin."
Elias H replied: "Don't take that stuff because it will put you in a emotional rollercoaster.
Even if you drink go to an AA meeting, you don't have to stop drinking... Just go."
madfigs replied: "Yes, the sexual side affects can come with all of the SSRIs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_serotonin_reuptake_inhibitor#List_of_SSRIs). I think there are only a couple anti-depression meds that don't have sexual side affects (because they're not SSRIs). Wellbutrin is the only one I can think of."
busymom4boyz replied: "the side effect I experienced with paxil is the loss of emotion and lack of sex drive. it actually does not cause problems with anxiety that is what I was treated for was anxiety attacks. It did give me dry mouth also. I was on it for about a year....the lack of sex drive was a small price to pay for not having anxiety attacks though."
Hooter replied: "Yes any of that can.Either lower the dose or change the medicine to find one that will work for you.Remember most medicine will take a while to get into your system, for you to get adjusted to it."
Bill M replied: "Read the label or ask your pharmacist. Side effects will be different for each individual and most people won't have any."
Faith E replied: "When I was on the Paxil, the only negative side effect I experienced was when I ran out of pills. If I had to go even just one day without a dose I was a complete nauseous, dizzy, wreck. I read an article in some medicine magazine that suggested Paxil was addictive. I believe it. So, I hope this doesn't happen to you."
tara d replied: "hey email me and i might be able to help @tr_dobbs@yahoo.com"
AvatarOne replied: "They're the same. It's a device the pharms, who are controlled by globalist, use to reduce the population, and they're going at it with every and any means. If they can't reduce the world population with drugs, biological agents, epidemic viruses and controlling your mind through the media, they'll resort to starting a nuclear war with the side-effect of "collateral damage" and reduce the population by the thousands or millions at a time."
wwe wrestling is ausome! replied: "i was on prozac when i was in high school and i hated it. it caused loss of sex drive completely. And my bf is on paxil and he is having with that med as well. So ya i think they have the same side effects either way if it was male or female."

Can Paxil anti deppressants have sexual side affects after 3 months of being clean of the drug.? How can you regain your complete sexual self.
shannon l replied: "You should talk with your doctor or pharmacist, they should have the answer to this."
jane doe replied: "I don't think it would be from the Paxil itself, it may be from you suffering from depression or whatever you were being treated for. Talk to your dr."
Has anyone NOT have sexual side effects from Paxil? Is it possible to not expirience all side effects with paxil. such as sexual side effects??? I know a lot of people lose thier sex drive, but is there anyone out there who didnt lose it while taking this medication??
And does this last the whole time you take paxil or is it just something that goes away say after a month or so of taking it??
Whats the deal with side effects? Are they constant, or only occur when you first start taking the medication???
MABISKING replied: "Just stay the fuck away from any kind of those medications"
woodson w replied: "i lost my side drive because of meds and got it back somewhat but then it went away for good"
af replied: "Some people experience permanent sexual side effects from long-term usage of SSRI's. The sad thing is, doctors don't take this seriously. I am practically asexual. There are many people who have had the same experience as you - google it. There is a Yahoo group (unfortunately, i can't remember the name) with over 1000 subscribers who complain of sexual dysfunction (permanent) from SSRI usage - you will probably find Paxil users on that group, too.
It is well-known that meds can cause sexual side effects - most packets list that - but little is spoken about permanent dysfunction, even though there is plenty of anecdotal evidence. It is insane that anecdotal evidence is not enough to satisfy the pharmaceutical companies, though.
EDIT:
Try this:

Jen A replied: "This is pretty normal for any medications...I was in your same situation and tried everything to restore it. I switched pills a couple times and gave up, the libido was just not coming back. I then found a natural herbal enhancer that is supposed to increase your sex drive and a couple other things. It's called Hersolution gel, read up about it at herenhancement.com where I saved on it at the time. However it's like an instant libido rush and as I kept using it my sex drive was through the roof and continues to be. The sensation blast is great too, I can't tell you how many times I've had multiple orgasms when before I couldn't even get a single one. Theres also capsules you can take that I've heard are better but I don't like swallowing many pills throughout the day. I was skeptical at first but the return policy was so great that the company was offer. From what I remember you had to try it out for a couple months but then you had time afterwards to return it for a full money back if it didn't work. I didn't have that problem as you can see. Well good luck and I hope this helps."
Has anyone figured out how to get around the sexual side effects of Paxil? I'm a woman and I take Welbutrin as well. Thanks in advance.
Sammy replied: "lol. No. I don't have much sexual desires and I am also on an anti-depressant."
homelessinorangecounty replied: "that's quite a potent mix....

check with nami and NIH websites for info and support and advice. sometimes in support groups they discuss pros cons and latest and greatest or oldest and baddest..

Smartassawhip replied: "I wish I knew more. The Welbutrin you take has a low incidence of sexual side effects but those are common with Paxil. There is another antidepressant that also has a low incidence of sexual side effects. It is Serzone (nafazodone). Some people think it has been taken off the market but that's not true.
There is still 1 manufacturer that makes a generic nefazodone, TEVA Pharmaceutical. Maybe you can switch from the Paxil to nefazodone? My x-wife had similar problems and her doctor tried her on progesterone, which tends to increase a woman's sexual desires, but unfortunately, she was unable to tolerate it due to severe headaches from it. I think most women can tolerate it OK.
If you were a man I would recommend testosterone and Viagra. I don't know if Viagra would help a woman but your doctor should know.
I have the same side effects from the Effexor I take so you have my empathy."
donttellme replied: "The only thing I know of is to switch to a different one-first choice is wellbutrin which you are already on-and use the PAxil fairly regularly if it helps, but take a "holiday" for the weekend or a day before the week end or so-for as long as you can tolerate being off it,until you feel some relief from the undesired side effect, then restart it."
