The Chocolate Starfish replied: "Seroquel is one that is similar to Zyprexa. Seroquel is a powerful tranquilizer like zyprexa that can be used for schizophrenia, treating bipolar mania, sleep disorders, and so on."

What is the Zyprexa medicine used for and what kind of medicine is that? I'm curious of it.

KRAZY_LADI_1 replied: "... Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults.....Zyprexa tablets, velotabs and injection all contain the active ingredient olanzapine, which is a type of medicine known as an atypical antipsychotic"

Can i take Zyprexa[bipolar medicine olanzapine] with 81 mg Asprin the asprin if for my pregnancy because? i have antiphospolipid syndrome and its ok to take low dose asprin. so can i take zyprexa with 81mg asprin?

Chickie20 replied: "This is probably a question you should ask your pharmacist or doctor! I work in a department which is a part of a pharmacy but we are not allowed to make recommendations because we don't know your medical history and that sort of thing and the pharmacy/doctor does..."

April Ann replied: "You might want to call your doctor about that one, he knows your personal situation."

Is there an alternative to the drug/medicine "Zyprexa Olanzapine"? Is there an holistic or natural way to get the same results. I've been taking this medicine for a couple of weeks and was reading some possible side effects. The two that I have had are increased hunger and tremors.

Elizabeth B replied: "yes i also take this drug and palning to come off it i've a got be a far bit of information on alternatives and when i bring it together i will return to this question and answer"

breeze1on replied: "Zyprexa is a Antipsychotic drug use manly on people that are psychotic to sum it up it helps people from hearing things that aren't there . mellaril is another way to go but may have more side effects"

Middleman replied: "The holistic stuff isn't worth the bottle it's packaged in. If you are ill enough to be prescribed zyprexa, don't endanger yourself by eating some untested hippie herb crap. That being said, there are many new good meds. Zyprexa has a lot of side effects, including problems with lipids and blood sugar. Ask your doctor if you are a good candidate for geodone or abilify. I really hate zyprexa, and I think in the near future it will be unused. Also, work on making your life as routine, and even boring, as possible for a few months-- this really helps. AND AVOID COFFEE, which stimulates problems, and avoid tobacco, which occupies some of the same neuro-receptors, requiring you to take a much higher dose (and risk more side effects). Very best of luck."

lovesherchina replied: "Zyprexa is not only prescribed as an anti-psychotic, Drs also prescribe it for people with severe cases of depression, although Zyprexa has serious side effects, such as weight gain, kidney and possible diabetes consequences on long term use, Zyprexa helps improve your sense of self esteem, you might want to ask your Dr to reduce slowly the dosage, and consider the introduction, of a good vitamin B complex, this is allowed to be used with prescription drugs. Do not use any herbal product with St Johns Wort, in association with anti-psychotics people have had bad results, these two do not mix. StJohns works fine for depression on its own. Do not get off your medication, work with your care practitioner to achieve the health you are seeking. God Bless"

Does anyone take a medicine called zyprexa? Have any side effects happened to you? Did it help you? I feel very tired when I wake up and I sleep more than usual

-Hunter's Felony- replied: "My dad took zyprexa for anxiety, he had it pretty bad, but now since taking it he's doing well. He at one stage could not leave the bedroom, and only go for walks at night, only feeling safe wearing dark colours for minimum attention. He took zyprexa for half a year and the side affects we've noticed is that his gut has become really big (however its also due to gluten intolerance, this we've eliminated from his diet and is feeling much better) and apparently zyprexa increases anxiety though it is slightly more controlled. I don't know much about it, what side affects have you had if you've taken it?"

Do regular medicines eliminate the effect of Bach Flowers? I am taking Zyprexa (antipsychotic) and Cymbalta (antidepressant) and I want to start with Bach Flowers too. Do this medicines eliminate the effect of Bach Flowers?

deshane2530 replied: "You should really ask the pharmacist. They would know for sure."

how do i get off 25mgs of paxil and 10mgs of zyprexa? Ive been taking paxil for about 8 years and i want to get off it i managed to reduce my paxil from 50mgs to 25. When ever i try to get off the paxil i get depressed after about 5 days of being off it. Is there a natural remedy for depression and anxiety? I also take 10mgs of zyprexa for paranoia and anxiety. Would like to get off it to but when i try to go off it i cant sleep, and i get real fearfull. I feel that if i go off my medicine i might have more energy. And the paxil causes a false since of happiness., I feel that going off my medication would help me expand my conciousnes.

Max replied: "maybe you should not get off of it because its cause you other problems!"

LadyDAnCali replied: "Goto the doctor................... not yahoo. That is a professional question. GOOD LUCK to you. It takes a big person recognize their needs."

da_hal replied: "da_hal's depression cure: 1. buy "7 habits of highly effective people." Read the entire book, understand it, and especially pay attention to chapter 3. 2. Chapter 3 is about listening. Practice it. Do it all the time. In the beginning, you have to ask the person you are listening to to make sure you are listening correctly. 3. Once you have mastered listening, turn it inwards towards yourself. This will force you to unearth all the illusions you have about yourself that you have been refusing to face these past 8 years. It's painful, but necessary. 4. Once you have rid yourself of your self-imposed illusions, and faced the person you truly are, then you can truly change yourself and become the person you want to be. Then, voila. You are cured of depression. note: the biggest problem facing people like you is that you are a loser but refuse to believe it. until you understand why you are a loser you cannot change it."

Desmond M replied: "It is very important that you follow your doctor's orders. If he has prescribed you these medications its for a reason keep taking them and learn to lean on the truth of God's word. You will be just fine."

Just Ducky!! replied: "Congratulations. The drugs haven't turned you into a zombie. I only had to spend 5 years in that situation. My insurance wouldn't pay for the zyprexa, so I really had to get off of it. I've been off drugs for over a year now. How I did it is with properly applied cognitive therapy. You've probably heard of or even tried it, but notice I said "properly applied". I'm referring to the method used by David Burns MD as outlined in his book "The Feeling Good Handbook": Read my story if you like: It's all about reprogramming your subconscious mind with positive rational thoughts so that it properly regulates the neurotransmitters making you feel better. It's difficult and tricky, but it can be done with patience, effort, and diligence. I did it and I believe you can too."

phil replied: "i would recomend staying on the meds if your symptoms keep coming back when you stop taking them"

Special replied: "if Ur getting depressed and paranoid and all that why do u want to get off it? it sounds like when yoUr taking them it helps u. you won't be able to overcome you depression w/o them. sorry to say that but depression is a chemical imbalance in ur brain and the med's balance that out. if i were you i would stay on the med's."

Clickclack replied: "Hey Jay, what you're saying sounds really familiar to me. I am 12 years on paxil and just now on the wean - I'm down to 12.3 mgs from 40. It must be done slowly and carefully - Paxil is scary stuff, and withdrawal can be terrifying. I'm a member of an online forum started by a paxil survivor, but it's grown in the six years it's been in effect. There is an FAQ page, a withdrawal guide, and lots of helpful advice from regular people, as well as nurses, docs, and psychiatrists that are also members. Don't go through it alone - come and get the facts. It might make you feel better to see what some of us have dealt with - it probably mirrors your own problems. You can join to ask questions, or just read through the threads, or search for certain things you want to know. It's important to know the facts here, because many doctors don't. They know what GlaxoSmith Kline told them, and GSK lied. They finally had to admit to their lies, and are losing many lawsuits to people like us. Get the facts. Take a look."

My dad is on 5 mg of Zyprexa and im on 500 mg of Depakote. which medicine is stronger? Im a bipolar mix and hes bipolar 2. I want to know which one of us is worse. Why do i have to avoid alcohol?

AbeLincolnParty replied: "Most people diagnosed as bipolar aren't. The two drugs differ greatly in how they act. Zyprexa is an antipsycotic which promotes diabetes, it also causes sudden unexplained death in elderly patients. Depakote originally was used for absence seizures in epilepsy, but marketing extended its uses. Watch out for liver problems, avoid alcohol and asprin or NSAIDS like advil or motrin."

boogeywoogy replied: "I find it interesting that in your previous question about Depakote that you were concerned about liver damage, and now you are asking about avoiding alcohol. Both are metabolized in the liver. Alcohol also increases the effects of the Depakote. THAT'S why you must avoid alcohol. As far as your dad and you go, you are comparing apples to oranges here. You have a different type of the disorder than he does, and your medicines will be different because of that. You are both on low doses of your respective medications. That being said, those of us who are rapid cycling or have mixed episodes typically are worse off, but I can't say how the two of you compare as far as your psychiatric histories go."

rgriffis68 replied: "Zyprexa is an anti-psychotic, developed for treatment of schizophrenia, but now commonly prescribed for bipolar and depression. Depakote is an anti-convulsant, originally used to prevent seizures, but now often used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar. Two different meds, apples and oranges as others have said. Not sure which of you is "worse" - I assume you're talking about the meds and not yourselves. I suggest you get more knowledgeable about medications - what you're taking and why, and whether they are working for you. Good luck."

Risperdal/Zyprexa in treating Borderline personality disorder emergency rage attack? Do you think Risperdal or Zyprexa will be good medicine for treating emergency BPD rage attack?

Alex62 replied: "Mixed reviews. Mostly not. If they conk ya out, it's hard to be rageful if you are sleeping. ;-)"

michael g replied: "I think the human race just makes up dieseases these days that in my time would be fixed with love , compassion , understanding and a hug now and then. Today we give them fancy names we make up and reach for the TV remote. Problem solved when Sparky all doped up and I can get back to MY life and TV shows."

Kat replied: "Not unless you want to act even worse and have racing dreams anyway that's what it did to make my madness worse when I had anger outburst from a a horrible anti-depressant called Cymbalta a long time ago. But good luck with it"

kaliluna replied: "Zyprexa is a good fast acting mood stabilizer that can be used either regularly or as needed. Risperdal is also good but I don't think it's as fast acting. Be aware though that both of these medications can increase appetite and cause weight gain when taken regularly. I would talk to a psychiatrist about it though and find what would be appropriate for that person. When I worked with kids and teens with mental illnesses a lot of times Zyprexa or Risperdal would be given when their behavior got out of control (as in rage attacks). Vistaril was also a common one used but only as an emergency medication."

Olga C replied: "If you have enaugh logic to stop and take a pill before you are at the point of no return enraged, Zyprexa can help. Get the one that disolves in the mouth without water! You get so gloomy, you just don't care any more. I took it for a short while regularly, a very small dose, and I gained about 15lbs! I agree with Mike. I would so much more prefer someone just once-in-a-while to give me a hug, a compassion, a kind word and tell me that everything will be all right..."
