Lithium Level In The Blood Posts in Q&A
Will weed show up on a lithium blood level test if I smoked like 7 times in a week and a half and idk test is? ok so I'm skrewed I need help I'm in a program school and I'm on a visit home and smoked red bud like 7 times in the past week or so. I'm using fake piss to pass the urine test but I'm on lithium so like in a few weeks maybe they'll do my levels pleeeease help me

Ren Hoek replied: "Well, as you said, you have the urine test covered. It seems very likely that the lithium test will be only for lithium. Now for the lecture. If you are taking lithium, then its likely that you are bipolar, unipolar depressive or manic. I am not against weed, per se, but you owe it to yourself to try not being a stoner for awhile. If you are working on psychiatric problems and this is something you obviously don't feel comfortable discussing with your psychiatrist and psychologists (or they can't be receptive to the idea because they are court appointed) then the weed use is a confusing factor to your therapy. Most good psychiatrists would encourage you to take time off from smoking weed to get a feel for how you are when unimpaired. And to put the edge on your intelligence rather than dull it, even if you are more anxious as a result. You need your maximum mental faculties at this point. Weed is neither good nor evil; its just another drug, but no one will dispute that it makes one dull. Enjoy it a little later down the road."

How can the lithium level in the blood can be kept through the routine food systems? I am a regular intaker of lithium to keep up my lithium level of blood to the required. Lithium is taken on priscription due to my illness of depression. Is there any particular food products to maintain lithium level in the blood so that the drugs can be stopped or reduced. Wish to know about natural food products which keep up the lithium level in blood.

Shopgirl9337 replied: "No. You should only take the lithium prescribed to you by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day and please don't double up your dose if you miss one. If you take the doctor's prescribed amount, then you can control how much you are intaking. Additional lithium may spike your level too high which may lead to lithium poisoning. Lithium Poisoning/Toxicity -nausea & vomiting -diarrhea -weakness & fatigue -lethargy & confusion -tremor -seizure -thyroid enlargement -diabetes insipidus (increased urinary output)"

My friend had a toxic level of lithium in her blood & had to get hospitalized 4 it does anyone know about this I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this or if they know of someone that has had this problem before. I think the other hospital might have given her to much but they played it off like it couldnt have possibly happened that way. She has been on it for years and never had this problem before this. I was hoping to find a good answer that might help me with my frustration. She was also very dehydrated.

mind attack replied: "The reason her level became toxic is because she was very dehydrated. Proper hydration is a MUST for patients on Lithium treatment."

Sooper Nanny replied: "Being very dehydrated could have played a important role to why the levels became toxic. Drinking water will cause the lithium to metabolize in liver and be excreted through the kidneys. To not urinate enough can cause a toxic buildup of any drug. You can read in this link provided how dehydration can cause toxic levels in patients who take lithium."

sebcue replied: "Patients who are on lithium should check the level of medication in their blood regularly so that they can adjust the dose. This rule applies to cartain other medications as well such as anti-epileptic drugs, digoxin, etc...If the level gets too high it will cause toxicity and can damage the kidneys...therefore the patient needs to be hospitised."

How long does it take for someone to acquire an accurate lithium level? I just started taking lithium, how long do i have to be on it to get an accurate level reading in my blood?

telltell98 *Proud Mommy of 3* replied: "I believe it is less than a week, but you may want to ask the doctor. You also have to have follow up levels checked. My husband has to have his levels checked about every 6 months."

Blood work for lithium levels? Do I have to fast for 24 hours before I give blood work to check lithium levels?

taustin288 replied: "call the lab I am sure they will be happy to tell you"

Eden* replied: "I didn't have to, it was just a regular process each time"

dallpsych replied: "Collection needs to be 12 hours after last dose. Does not need to fast."

redgirl9992004 replied: "Never heard of fasting for a lithium level. Your doctor would of told you by now, so don't."

blood work on lithium levels & thyroid levels? plz help? my friend asked me about this and i dont know what to tell her..she smoked pot on friday & she's getting blood work done tomorrow at a pediatricians office to check her lithium and thyroid levels. will they detect that she smoked or do they have to do certain tests looking specifically for drugs? ive never dealt with this type of stuff and i dont know since its a pediatricians office.

Cornholio replied: "they absolutely will not detect marijuana in her blood unless they specifically are doig a drug screen that checks for it. if she is just doing lithium and thyroid, it will not show up, guaranteed. checking lithium is completely different from doing a drug screen"

mykidzrkute replied: "Unless they are doing a urine drug screen she's fine."

tattooedrockprincess replied: "They must specifically be testing for it. Also she should look over the list of tests they are going to give her and check specifically for drug testing. They don't just give you frivolous tests because if she has insurance they wouldn't want to pay for anything extra and if she doesn't have insurance I'm sure she'd feel the same way."
