half life problem! how to solve this problem? this relates to radioactive decay? kk the question is----? Tritium has a half life of 12.3 yrs. if mikel's research group synthesized a 1.05 g sample of tritium through neutron bombardment of lithium-6. how long would they have before the sample decayed to 10% of its original mass?
♥ What is the concentration of lithium in one 200mg tablet of ibuprofen? Is it only trace or substantial amounts, specifically?
Plasma half-life of either not a necessary detail at this point; I am just concerned with the concentration of lithium therein per pill (200mg) tablet. 500 or 800mg concentrations not needed.
Oh! Please don't say "Google it" ... i already did that. Thanks.
xoxo
♥
Well, i assume that it's moreso an inactive ingredient i suppose but it does contain lithium. I was thinking it is in trace amounts only.
Caffeine is also present in ibuprofen/acetaminophen; but this too in trace amounts.
Ibuprofen can increase lithium levels in the blood leading to eventual lithium toxicity. That is why certain NSAIDs cannot be mixed with other scripts containing lithium.
But the concentration in a tablet of ibuprofin isn't the same as an tablet of lithium carbonate. The levels are much different.
Thank you for answering though!
I know this ..... *thinks* maybe i was thinking of a different NSAID? I could've sworn Ibup contained trace amounts in addition to it's effects of blocking/reducing excretion of lithium to the kidneys etc.
I am going to read up some more on this presently. Thank You for answering!
xoxo
*edit* Ken: Maybe? It's possible *sighs* I'm tired LOL. If i'm wrong then I'm wrong.
Thank you also, for answering. xoxo
ceddog86 replied: "Ibuprofen does not contain any lithium. It's molecular formula is C13H18O2. Lithium is a naturally occurring mineral so I suppose it is possible that specific batches are contaminated with very small amounts of lithium but I cannot think of any reason why that would be.
I think you may be confused because ibuprofen can increase the concentration of lithium in the blood. This is a warning for people who are taking prescription lithium and who may be considering taking over the counter ibuprofen. Lithium is a very effective and relatively safe medication, but the difference between the therapeutic dose and the toxic dose is very slim. People who are on lithium usually have to get regular blood tests to make sure that their blood lithium concentration is in this normal range; not too low to relieve symptoms and not high enough to cause liver damage.
Ibuprofen increases the concentration of lithium in the blood not by adding more lithium—it does not contain any—but through some other biochemical interaction. If you are taking lithium I would not recommend taking ibuprofen without first speaking to a health care professional such as a physician or pharmacist. If you are considering starting lithium therapy be sure to tell your prescriber about all of the medications that you are taking, including over the counter meds like ibuprofen, other prescription medications, herbal supplements and vitamins."
Ken E replied: "I have some knowledge of drugs like this and I have never heard of it being sold as a lithium salt. It contains no lithium itself, being merely carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
Most likely, if sold as a salt it would be the one of the sodium, potassium, calcium or magnesium salts. It does increase blood levels of lithium if lithium is co-administered, this is a known drug interaction.
You may be thinking of ibuprofen lysine, in which the lysine increases the solubility of ibuprofen."
are unstable lithium isotopes dangerous? ok, so i have a science report on the element lithium, and i read that the shorter the half-life is, the more dangerous it is. does this mean that lithium isotopes that have half-lives < 10 ns are super radioactive?
Leo H replied: "Yes, for 10 ns. So I don't think you have any. Lithium is dangerous if you get some water on it explosive hydrogen is produced.

Half - Life Question? I am playing the game half life and I am very confused. I am at the part were you have to sneak by the noise sensitive monster that the security guards are trying to kill with pistols.
The Important part of this situation is the fact that I already passed this monster and explored through the door at the very bottom of the chamber.
When I found that the door I chose was a dead end I then again snuck by the monster back to the test room were the scientist was pulled through and killed.
Now here I am in the test room not knowing if I need to go back down there were the monster is located or back track through the door that leads away from this monster.
One more detail I should add, I tried the "test fire" button in the test room. It appeared to have three elements needed to engage the test fire. It needed Lithium, Gasoline, and I believe power. I have only turned on a valve for lithium.
Kyle replied: "Blast Pit.
You need to go into the chamber where the green noise sensitive monster is and go down the ladders on the other side of the rings, you need to crouch so it does not hear you. When you look around you will see numerous doors covered with wooden planks. There is only one way to take them down, I would use the grenade so the monster does not hear your crowbar. There are two doors to go through I think. Both doors will lead to the switches that will turn on the oxygen and fire, and power. After that the test fire button will work.
So basically, go in the chamber and look for wooden plank doors, you must go down."
home work help! (chemistry)? I have a couple science questions! the results have to be in SI system
1. what is the width of a DNA chain?
2. Mass of the biggest Diamond?
3. Amount of the erythrocytes per 1mm (cubed) of blood?
4. Time for top quark decay in (yoctosecond). Half life of lithium-4?
5. Amount of oxygen produced by trees in U.s. per year??
if you could help me answer any of these it would be awesome!

I am bipolar and on lithium, i halved my recommended dose, considering stopping completely is this dangerous? I was diagnosed with bipolar last year, i just turned 18 and I dont want to be on a potentially unhealthy medication for the rest of my life. I was perscribed seroquel and lithium at first, after a while i cut off the seroquel without tapering for months like the doctor wanted. Now i am on 900 mg of lithium, a 450 mg pill every 12 hours. I have been taking 1 pill every day (half what the doctor thinks im taking) for two weeks with no problems, since there is a "soft spot" or zone for lithium levels I assume that by now my level is too low to be treating my bipolar, is this true and would it make a big difference if i stoped taking my pill completely now?
T replied: "call you doctor... best advice around"
poolekiteman replied: "Don't change the dose of your medication without discussing this with your doctor. If you follow the recommended medication, you will feel better eventually. Ask your doctor if there are any courses you could go to, to gain insight into your condition. This is a life long state that you need to live with. There will be periods where you feel well and some where you feel not so well."
Nymphodora replied: "If the side effects are too bad, give Lamictal a try."
Hope replied: "Stopping your medication would be very unwise.
Go back to your Dr and discuss your intentions and reasons.
Bipolar is a lifelong ILLNESS that can severely limit your potential in
relationships, jobs, school, and your ability to function as a person.
Why would a person DESIRE to live with those negative symptoms?
Could it be your illness talking? Does not make sense."
Lithium Poly in airsoft? I know everyone says how a lipo will ruin your gun....
I have been using a 11.1 in a stock JG and echo1 mp5 and m4 for almost a year.. the internals show no more ware what so ever than my 9.6 volt battery.... and I use it for at least 3 hours every sunday with the exception of missing a few.
Explain that you lipo haters..
I never shoot more than 3 second bursts because there is no need... my mp5 literally is doing 40rps.. so the magazine is empty before you can tell if you hit anything.. lol
I look at it like this.. there is a car with 100hp driving at a constant 60 mph...... and there is a car with 500 driving at a constant 120 mph both with the same tires.. Having a bigger engine and driving at double the speed does not ruin the tires, it just cuts the life span in half because you are doubling the speed.
Allahu Akbar Derka Mohamed Jihad replied: "I just put a 11.1 into my echo 1 with only slight mods. 3,000 rounds so far with short bursts and just like you have described, the internals still look fantastic.. just be careful.. just because it has been working fine all this time, does not mean you won't strip your piston, or pop your gears this sunday.
And also remember the motor/ stock internals were designed to really only function properly with up to 9.6 volts. I won't be surprised if my piston strips soon either.
Good luck.
Just a side note*
I have seen a video on you tube where a 11.1 volt lipo was used in a P90 with a plastic mech box. The gun was held on full auto for a FULL 5 minutes straight in an attempt to destroy the internals (with no such luck). The attempt failed and had to be stopped because it battery pack was becoming to warm to proceed. This just goes to show that that all things are as they appear."
How long does withdrawal last with trileptal? My girlfriend is coming off 150mg of Trileptal and I was wondering how long her withdrawal symptoms should last? I know the half life of the medication clears it from your bloodstream with in a week but how long will she have withdrawal or relapses of withdrawal?
Also over the past year shes been on pretty much every major psychiatric drug. Is it possible for her to still have withdrawal relapses from drugs such as Zoloft and Lithium months or over half a year later? I've read that some of the more powerful drugs can have very long withdrawal time periods, I was just wondering what anyone on here knows or heard.
Jordan, do you think she may still be having withdrawal from Klonopin? She came off of that a month or so back? Like I said she has been on many of the major medications.
jordan replied: "the trileptal should stop bothering i would think soon after she stops taking it. i took trileptal and i felt better once i stopped taking it. i don't know about lithium but zoloft shouldn't bother her for months either after she stopped taking them. those drugs aren't that strong. usually people struggle with addictive drugs after they stop taking them like xanax or valium or klonopin."
John J replied: "I have taken many different medications for anxiety, depression, and OCD. What I have found is yes... withdrawal from these medications can be prolonged, and painful, and can last mos, years, etc... That being said... keep in mind that the body needs time to readjust to changes. I think that suddenly tapering down off of something over the course of a couple of weeks to a month is nuts.... baby steps over a long period of time have enabled me to find medicines that I can take at very low doses with minimal side effects.
Your GF needs to rebaseline herself. if she's flipping out from Trileptal w/d, she should talk to her doc, and go back on it... perhaps at a lower dose. stabilization is most important."
A battery and its capacity to hold a charge? Does it annoy anyone else out there when you get a new product, that you have to charge these rechargeable batteries for up for 24 hours or even longer initially to get it to retain the charge on a regular basis - why can't they make a battery that comes fully charged to use in the first place - I thought lithium batteries are supposed to be better for not ending up only having a reduced charge if they haven't been regularly fully charged aren't they - and if if this is the case, why aren't they used more in products where recharging is necessary like mobile phones etc., instead of these nickel-cadmium batteries which need all this 'pampering' at the beginning of their life?
In a nutshell when you buy a product using a battery, you normally want to use it straight away don't you - not have to wait half a week before it will deign to to give you an adequate charge time in order for it to be of working use to you do you?
Yes I've heard of alkaline batteries - but where's the intelligence you speak of keep on buying something to have to throw it away again - I would rather the people who design these things get their thinking caps on and design a RECHARGEABLE battery that doesn't have all this performance at the beginning that doesn't retain this 'memory' of only being half charged.
The analogy I have been told before, is its like a bottle of milk - you can top up an old bottle of milk with new milk, but it won't make the old milk any better - capeesh!
FredHH replied: "They do make batteries that come fully charged.
They are called Alkalines. You discharge them and throw them away.
You can charge the rechargeables faster... but if you do, you will shorten their useful life.
If you want to waste your money... go ahead.
You just have to be smarter than the equipment you are operating. In this case it has no intelligence."
wires replied: "As far as I can figure, this is a cost saving issue. The batteries need to be charged for 16 or 24 or whatever number of hours that is stated on the package to finish up and set a chemical issue in the battery. If the factory did it it would add cost to the manufacturing of the battery by delaying the shipping. If you're shipping hundreds of thousands of batteries, even a 1/2 cent addition to the cost of making the battery can cost the factory thousands of dollars a year. Only Ni-Cad batteries have a memory issue. None of the others have this problem."
