Hair Loss And Cymbalta Information in Q&A
Can Cymbalta cause hair loss? Will it grow back? I swear my hair is thinning and that I can see my scalp more than I could before. It's freaking me out. (I'm 22 and female.) So: can Cymbalta cause hair loss and will it grow back? Will this side effect eventually go away, or will I have to go off the medication? I'd hate to have to go off it because I think it might be helping at least a bit, and this would be the first medication to do so. (I've been trying to find the right medication for about 7 or 8 years.)

Cody. replied: "Ew. I hate all of these Anti-Depressants/Anxiety medications. Yes it will cause hair loss. It will grow back, maybe you should try asking to switch meds."

Hopefully Helpful replied: "There might be other reasons for the thinning of your hair. I take a thyroid medication as well as Cymbalta that I think might be making my hair thinner. A dermatologist might be able to check your scalp. Good Luck."

Whats the deal with welbutrin? hair loss ? memory loss? Its been day 4 since i started taking welbutrin Sr 150.......I feel a bit off ... head hurts....body is a bit achy.... i have more energy already. Its a bit hard to fall asleep at night though.... My mind seems to wounder alot. But im hoping these side affects are just the intial process of the meds getting into your system. My grandmother took this medication when her hubby passed and she said it worked fine for her..so thats why i asked my doctor about it. So im trying to find out if i feel normal soon and upon browsing the internet i see alot of people are losing there HAIR from taking the generic brand...which im taking. can someone please tell me anything they know about it... my head feels like its going to explode and i honestly feel like its just the meds getting into my system.. i mean i feel a change mentally..... and im trying to give it time. I mean antidepressants dont work for me... i tired loft and paxil.... awful horrible i felt like i was being choked. Cymbalta was the only one i took for two years..it stopped working though.... so yeah. please feel free to give me any info you may have on this drug ok. i really need some insight on this.

Mishi replied: "I took Wellbutrin SR (generic as well), 150 mgs twice a day for several years. I did notice a slight affect on my hair, but just dismissed it as aging. Other than that, I felt it was successful for me. Didn't have any of the other side effects you mentioned. If you're having major side effects like that, you need to see your doctor as soon as you can. If they're severe enough that they interfere with your daily life, scare you, "change" you in any way, you need to talk to your doc about it! It concerns me a little that the doc you're seeing gave you the meds on your request. Just because a type of med works for one person doesn't mean it'll work for you, too. Or that you would have no side effects like your grandmother. Unfortunately, this is how it sometimes works in the antidepressant med world. It's a game of trial and error. I took several meds prior to settling with Wellbutrin. Paxil made me angry, Zoloft gave me insomnia, etc. You just have to keep trying till you find the right one. But I would recommend you go see your doc as soon as you can and request a change. Even better, see if you can get an appt. with a psychiatrist. They're very educated in behavioral meds and would better be able to recommend something."

Tonya replied: "While I only took if for about a month as it cause sever nausea...I know a little about antidepressants in general. You say you've only been on it for 4 days. You need to give it more time to get into your system. But if you are very uncomfortable and just can't stand the side effects you should talk to your doctor. I've not heard anything about hair loss but I didn't really read up on this med much before taking it. As for user insight, I'd suggest that you go to webmd and search this med and read the user reviews. This can often be very helpful. Good Luck and hope I've helped a little. EDIT** as for your sleeping problems, it could be cause by this antidepressant if you are taking it too close to bedtime. Or it could be some other medication you are taking. Start journaling each day about what you do...ie when you take you meds and other important and useful info and after a few weeks/month read it and see where you can improve."
