Estradiol For Research Posts in Q&A
I was put on Estradiol to ease cramps? associated with my Mirena IUD.. But while I was researching about estradiol, I discovered it was mostly for menopause. Im 27. Has anyone else taken this drug for cramping?

leannakoh replied: "no. but you can pill for period cramps from your gp"

marry replied: "well..i think you must take another opinion from another doctor.. because i have also heard this for the purpose of menu pause.. as you are just 27...you need to change your pills.. all the best"

Estradiol Benzoate for men.? Okay...I'm sure this is an odd question but trust me...I do actually have a reason I'm asking it. I've researched that normal estradiol levels in men are generally (I say generally because my research all seems to find me varying ranges) between 10 and 80 pg/ml. My question is...if a man were to be producing NO estradiol naturally (which is a bad thing...just like having too much is) then how much estradiol benzoate could be injected daily in order to achieve serum estradiol in the 'normal' range? Would 10mg daily take a normal size man over the normal range?

Barcode replied: "Well, Rocket Scientist - you didn't go quite far enough in your research. You should have kept going until you got your answer. Go back & try it again."

Where can I find drug denaturalization temperatures? I am trying to figure out how high drugs like nicotine, testosterone, estrogen, oxybutynin, estradiol etc. can be heated before they begin to lose their useful properties. Can anyone suggest a good source to research this information from?

Is samE effective for depression/anxiety? Does anyone know how long samE takes to work, & whether it works? I have had clinical depression/anxiety & severe PMS for well over a decade now. I am very convinced my depression is linked to my hormones (as I have always been "irregular" and I have to lock myself away for 1 week of every month!). I also recently read that a lady who had Bipolar all her life got "cured" when she hit a certain age...I am wondering whether she had gone through menopause and that cured it! I am perimenopausal, 38, smoker (tobacco only) & do not drink alcohol. Have already asked the docs if I could have a hysterectomy, but they say that won't cure my depression. Am wondering whether to ask my mental health doc to try Estradiol transdermal patches (estrogen). I have tried so many different anti-deps for depression (& buspirone & clonazepam for anxiety), CBT therapy, grief counselling, asked others in Depression Chat rooms, researched the internet, tried Mood Stabilisers, tried 5HTP, St John's Wort, Executive Vitamin B's, Omega 3's, & read heaps of books, you name it. The anti-deps have very severe side effects (make me feel worse/suicidal). I am really at a loss as to what to do (& I think so is my mental health professional). I think the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result...and all the doctors want to do is suggest yet more different anti-depressants which are hell to go on AND taper off of for someone is apparently "sensitive to medication"....Yes I have gone through an enormous amount in a short amount of time too (death of my dad, loss of my ex-fiance of 4 years, loss of friends, empty nest of my only child of which I was a single mum, terrible family court case, loss of job for 3 years now, and my mum is now elderly so I fear losing her too). All I want is an effective, long term solution so that I will feel better, preferably naturally. Someone please help & remember if you don't have anything helpful to say, don't say it...

Cosmic Magnet replied: "They don't know for sure. I'm currently involved in a research study on this exact question, and I am currently taking 3600mg samE per day, as well as 20mg Lexapro. The indication/suggestion by research is that it does help a bit. But the medical community does not know anything definitive at this point. Discuss with your doctor about trying it; you've got nothing to lose, right?"

B replied: "Sam-e isnt' going to fix your depression if it's hormone related. Sam-e is a chemical in the body, and when you take the supplement, it's just helping to replenish that chemical. So if you really think it's hormone related, then sam-e is likely not right for you. You could try going on birth control until you hit menopause. They have way fewer side effects than anti depressants do."

Jahnavi replied: "hi depression and anxiety both are different that i came to know by looking 2 articles regarding this anxiety and depression that i have seen in If you want to know the difference and treatment evrything u can see ther. And one more article that deals about bipolar disorder symptoms and treatment also there."

jerry replied: "SAMe or SAM-e OUR RATING What is it? SAMe (pronounced 'Sammy') is short for S-adenosylmethionine. It is a chemical that occurs naturally in all cells of the body. How does it work? SAMe is involved in many natural chemical reactions in the body. It donates part of its chemical structure (called a 'methyl group') to other molecules such as DNA, proteins and neurotransmitters (chemical messengers between nerve cells). In doing so, it changes how these molecules work. It is not clear exactly how it helps in depression. Is it effective? There have been a small number of studies comparing the effectiveness of SAMe with pills that don't have any effect (placebos) and with antidepressant drugs. These studies show that SAMe works as well as antidepressant drugs for people with mild to moderate depression. However, these studies have only involved a small number of patients and the patients only took SAMe for a short period. Are there any disadvantages? SAMe seldom has side effects. However, it can lead to mania in people who suffer from bipolar disorder. Also, people who are on prescribed antidepressants should not take SAMe unless they are under the supervision of a doctor. Where do you get it? SAMe is available in health food shops and on the internet. However, it is expensive to buy. Recommendation SAMe is a promising treatment with minimal side effects, but requires further research. Key references Bressa GM. S-adenosyl-1-methionine (SAMe) as antidepressant: meta-analysis of clinical studies. Acta Neurologica Scandinavica 1994; Suppl. 154: 7-14 - from: It is given a 1 smiley face rating, compared with St. John's wort with 2. Avoid estradiol. See View pages 1, b, and i, about depression, and anxiety. Maintain Omega 3 fatty acids for their general health benefits (slow to act, but very safe). Chances are, you were using an ineffective brand of the wort, with insufficient hyperforin, so I suggest that you try a recommended brand, for at least 6 weeks. Maintain the core treatments; have the blood tests, and try the specialist acupuncture for depression."

Transexual Hormones Advice in the UK? Im a man looking to get some advice about feminization through hormones. Im embarassed to speak to my doctor & would be grateful if anyone knows where I can get some independent counsel or advice. Im really looking for someone who perhaps can advise me & who I can talk to as I dont feel I can approach my doctor. Also, do you know how safe spironolactone is with estraderm(estradiol) patches. After researching they seem safe options though again, I would prefer to be monitored safely by a medical practioner. If you know any sites aswell, please let me know. Thanks!

Austin replied: "If you aren't comfortable with your current doctor, really the only option is to find a different doctor, to "start over with" so to speak. It's very important that you are monitored by someone who knows what they are doing and can make sure you stay safe. I went the other way (FTM), but I've heard plenty of horror stories about people trying to do their hormones themselves. Try researching different doctors in your area, because it's important to find one you are comfortable with that is going to take care of you and help you out with this. Good luck. =]"

sabrinaelder replied: "There is nothing to be embarrasy, if you want talk your doctor as far your concern. Your doctor will be happy answer for you. If I were you to search the transgender groups in your area and they will help you to find a doctor in your area. That best bet for you."

Diane replied: "You have a couple of options, really... If you're uncomfortable with your GP, transfer to another practice (or perhaps even another partner within your current practice). You will need a sympathetic and co-operative GP if you intend to transition under the NHS. If you can afford it, go private; most private gender consultants don't require a GP referral, you can simply ring and ask for an appointment. bear in mod that if you do opt for the private route, you're very unlikely to be able to go back to the NHS for ANY treatment related to your transition. You could join this Yahoo group for advice; (and this one; for general advice and support) Whatever you decide, please DON'T self-medicate; quite apart from the very real risks of death or permanent damage, you will prejudice your chances of being treated at any NHS Gender clinic."

I just switched pills from diane-35 to CyEstra-35.? I was reassured that it was the same pill. I did some research and it has the exact same dosage of cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol. I am becoming sexually active again and I just want to make sure that this is an effective birth control to keep using. I also use condoms. Basically all I want to know is if this is an CyEstra-35 is as effective as diane-35. Thanks for anyone who knows :)

sokokl replied: "Yes, it should be as effective but I would recommend checking with your pharmacist as well to see what they say."

zlil21 replied: "Yes they are the same, but there are many people that claim that they do not work as well as diane. CyEstra's use is primarily for acne, so don't let it be your first choice as a contraceptive. Also, the side effects of CyEstra may also be different. I experienced a lot of nausea and mood swings. If you are really concerned about it, make sure you call your doctor and tell him to prescribe diane 35 and write "no substitutes" on the prescription. This way, the pharmacist won't switch it on you :)."

What facial and body changes can I expect with feminizing hormones? I'm 22 yrs old and a biological female with normal testosterone levels. I have a masculine face i.e. big nose and a strong jawline. I want a round face, chubby cheeks and a more feminine jawline. Am I being too optimistic? I know the only proven effects of hormones are smoother skin, decreased body hair and decreased muscle mass. My endocrinologist gave me 500mg flutamide daily (anti androgen), 2 mg cyproterone acetate (another anti androgen) and 35 mg ethinyl estradiol (estrogen). I've been researching and these are really high dosages. Transgender M to F people take the same doses. If you are transgender and you've taken hormones.. Please tell me your experience.. Thanks I would really appreciate it =)

Azriel Nihilus replied: "I can't answer your question from experience, but your doctor really should have told you everything about any changes you might expect, in addition to ones that could be the sign of some sort of problem. And it also made me a bit anxious that you mentioned how high your doses were... did you talk to your endocrinologist? are you sure that they gave you all the information that you need? And I have some friends who are ftm and mtf, some of them said the first thing they noticed that changed was the look of their jaw-- so maybe it would work that way for you, too... but hormones effect everyone differently, so don't get worried if your experience is a bit different."

Sam replied: "The round face-I guess you could gain wait-but that's not healthy. My friend took estrogen hormones because she had a really bad facial hair problem(shes not transgendered) and she saw results in a few weeks, but she used lower doses than you."

Geanie's Return replied: "if you are a real girl than you should had taken that earlier, if u are some bs "born in wrong bod" it would not change"

RadGal replied: "This question is a JOKE. No doctor would prescribe those medications to you. You made this question up simply to get responses. Ant-androgens will not help you. Neither will EE (ethinyl estrogen). As a matter of fact EE may give you deep vein thrombosis and maybe even a pulmonary embolism. Because of these complications very few doctors prescribe EE anymore. The only solution to a masculine face is surgery to reduce the underlying bone structure. FFS (facial feminization surgery) exists for just this purpose. There are several doctors in the US who do such surgery. If you go down that path make sure the doctor is reducing the underlying bone and isn't doing just plastic surgery. Pills are not the answer, FFS surgery is."

Brittney replied: "I agree with Radgal. And i smell a TROLL"

Human sexuality questions 1? 1) There is a reciprocal relationship between hormones and behavior; hormones can affect behavior and behavior can affect hormone levels.Answer: True or False? 2)With regards to hormones and sexual motivation: a. research in rats and monkeys show that the conversion of estradiol to testosterone plays a role in sexual motivation in males. b. sexual arousal in women is regulated by estrogens and testosterone c. unlike non-human test subjects, human females do not experience fluctuations in sexual motivation over the course of the menstrual cycle. d. there are no therapies to treat the decline in sexual interest shown by many postmenopausal women

Old pill has twice the amount of hormones as my new one. Is it ok to take 2? I recently just swtiched from Yasmin to Alesse. The Alesse is a lower dose pill than the Alesse and as such I've been getting headaches and breakthrough bleeding. Through some research I discovered that the Yasmin has 10 micrograms more ethinyl estradiol than the Alesse. I found out that normal regular dose pills like the Yasmin I had been taking normally have 30-50 micrograms of this. The only difference between the 2 is the progestin (Yasmin has Drosperinone 3mg and Alesse has 0.1mg levonorgestrel) My question is, that would taking 2 of the Alesse pills act similarily to taking one Yasmin, and is there any danger to it? And is there any serious difference between the 2 progestins?

Jan C replied: "You need to verify with the pharmacy. If the Doctor wrote the wrong dosage order, he/she should be told. It is possible the pharmacy made a mistake."

Joy replied: "Er... you want to take two pills at a time? Why? If you missed a pill, then that's one thing, but you are taking a medication that is once a day -- not twice. If you don't like your new pill, ask your doctor to switch you back to Yasmin."

Renee replied: "Only take prescribed medicine as directed, or ask your Dr. or pharmacist."

Rachel B replied: "It can take three months for your body to adjust to a new form of birth control. Usually, the breakthrough bleeding and other side effects will taper off. If it still bothers you at this point, switch to a pill with a higher dose of estrogen."

Well ladies I'm on c/d 35 I have 35 day cycles took clomid and estradiol I did the opk got the lh surge on time I just knew I did it this month oh one little detail I had a yeast infection too but I still bd that wasn't going to stop me I treated right after I was sure I ovulated quick question is the yeast in my uterus too? Lissa TTC#2 replied: "No problem about it being long, sometimes we all just need to get it out. I kept thinking this past cycle was our time, that we had finally done it since I had a (+) OPK and I usually don't ovulate. (PCOS) My cervix was high and hard each time I checked the 3 days before AF was due, and then I got brown discharge and spotting out of nowhere. Usually I have HORRIBLE cramps but I didn't this time. Next thing I know AF is staring me in the face a few days early. The only thing is in this last cycle I had strep/ear infection- but didn't take any meds cuz I usually get over it quick. Now AF is finally starting to go away but I've caught the FLU! Why not?! I'm beginning to wonder if my immune system is against us TTC right now. GooD LuCK, and don't give up. BaBy DuST!!!"

jules27 replied: "ugh i so feel ya. maybe there is hope. im going to stop obsessing and be normal. good luck to you. hopefully well get what we want:)"
