Drugs Used For Anxiety Seroquel Information in Answers
Seroquel hearings on off label drug use? I heard Congress may try to pass law making it illegal for Seroquel to be prescibed for social anxiety?

lnl311 replied: "I took this drug i thought i was going crazy well more than i already am i would not give this to my worst cell mate"

SUSAN K replied: "that might be good some of psychiatric meds can be dangerous and bad for your health in the long run check for natural treatments and success stories good luck"

Does taking seroquel along with Prozac have any health effects? I have some anxiety problems and I have been recently perscribed Prozac and Seroquel. My understanding of both drugs is that; Prozac increases the levels of serotonin neurotransmitters in the brain; and Seroquel blocks the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Also, I know that, Prozac is used to treat depression and some anxiety problems. Seroquel is used to treat psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, maniac-depressive disorder and very servere depression. Seroquel does this by blocking dopamine (dopamine causes the symptoms of schizophrenia such as hallucinations and delusions) and serotonin. I know I'm not hallucinating or having any delusions. My perscription is telling me that I'm a depressed psychotic. I'm not depressed either. My main concern is if Prozac is increasing my serotonin levels and Seroquel is blocking my serotonin levels, then why should i take both of these medications? Also why should I take a medicine that acts as an anti-psychotic when I'm not psychotic?

lorac replied: "you need to see a real doctor and get a proper diognosis. you may not need medication at all"

paul s replied: "not sure but seroquel can make you fat as hell if your not careful."

Seroquel and Klonopin? This week my doctor perscribed me Klonopin. I used seroquel before for anxiety attacks but wanted to switch because I didnt like the side effects. I took a klonopin 5 hours ago for anxiety and i never noticed any effect. So obviously I need dosages adjusted with it or something. But I dont want ot take a larger dose without first talking to the doctor because it is an addictive drug and i want to be careful with it. But I still feel like crap right now and have no way of contacting the doctor so I was wondering if I take a seroquel is there a risk of it reacting badly with the klonopin in my system? cuz i need something that works and i know the seroquel works. i took it and to people who say seroquel shouldnt be perscribes for anxiety it is perscribed off label for anxiety all the time. It's also used off label for sleep. Just because it was originially intended as an anti psychotic doesnt mean that it shouldnt be perscribed off label for other things if it works

sf8706 replied: "I used to take seroquel. I HATED IT. I have no idea what klonopin does."

limousineorama replied: "I used to be on clonazepam(klonopin) and seroquel together. Clonazepam for anxiety and Seroquel as an antipsychotic and I never had any issues with it. The worst that can happen if you take them together i think is that you will just notice a bit more sedation from the seroquel. But it sounds like thats what you need in your case i am guessing. I am no doctor but i am just saying from my experience that I was prescribed the both of those together and there were no negative effects. Good luck. ps u can email me at if you need"

delphi replied: "Get off those meds long term effects are horrible. Find out the core reason for attacks and learn how to fix it them. And watch the rythmn of your breathing. Geez I hate these MD's for even prescribing these drugs."

Marisse R replied: "Klonopin is a good antianxiety medicine and need to be taken regularly to be beneficial. Any changes in dosages should be under the advise of your physician. Seroguel has been used to help person sleep and control anxiety but per se not an antianxiety medicine. Its an entirely different class of medicine. I think if you cannot get a hold of your doctor you don't take anything else, better safe than sorry."

just us replied: "no two different drug classes no interactions"

crzylizzi replied: "I have taken Klonopin for a year 1/2 (between 1-4 mgs/day) and Serequel for 2 years until a few months ago. There was a time I took them every day together, there SHOULD be no adverse reaction. HOWEVER SEREQUEL IS AN ANTI-PSYCOTIC AND SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN FOR ANXIETY! Klonopin is for anxiety, but Serequel should NOT be given just for anxiety or Panic Attacks."

Seroquel for alcoholism? My Dr. placed me on Seroquel because I used alcohol to treat insomnia and anxiety before bed. I am placed on a HIGH dose (200mg) for drowsiness and it makes me feel drunk and drugged up? He was concerned for my alcoholism and losing custody of a child but if I am slurring speech and unable to take care of a child isn't this just as bad? Thoughts?

Lila replied: "Seroquel is very good for helping you to sleep but this dosage is way to high. You need to talk to your doctor about trying a lower dosage. You should be very proud of yourself for stopping the alcohol. I hope everything works out for you and your child. You sound like a mother trying very hard to do the right thing and I wish you success."

marybuko replied: "I take 75mg. to 100mg. for sleep. Seroquel makes you sleepy, and everyone is different...our bodies are different...so for some 100mg. or 200mg. may be too much or too little. I went as high as 300mg., and that was way too much for me. I didn't react well with that dosage, but I do well with what I'm on now. So work with your doctor and tell him exactly your reaction and he should decrease it to what level is best for your body. It may seem to you like the doctor gave you Seroquel for alcoholism, but if you told him you were using alcohol for insomnia...alcohol has the opposite effect. It gives you an erratic sleep...you pass out and awake and pass out and awake, etc....you don't sleep well with alcohol. And of course in high doses, alcohol is not good for your physical health, mental health and spiritual health. The only cure for alcoholism is abstinence and going to AA meetings. Check in your community for a meeting...there are many meetings...and there are women-only AA mtngs. because some women feel more comfortable talking with other women about sensitive issues. Take Care and Good Luck."

elle replied: "Seroquel is associated with a number of side effects, which for many are worse than moderate anxiety symptoms. I would never take it for those purposes. I'm also wondering what a judge will think of you being prescribed an antipsychotic. This is probably a bad choice of medications for you. There are many, many other options."

Nicki replied: "When i first went on seroquel i had tremors and i thought they were never going to go away, i thought i was going to have parkinsons i think its called, eventually my side effects diminished, so you should try it for a few weeks, then talk to your dr. I think they didnt go through 10 years of school to lie to you."

Anyone have any experience with Abilify? My doctor is taking me off Seroquel because I can't take the side effects anymore, such as stiff muscles, coordination problems, serious weight gain, etc. He is now putting me on Abilify, but reading the side effects scares me to death. Has anyone had experience with this drug? Please share it with me. I don't have bipolar, but this class of drugs is often used in conjunction with antidepressants to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Thanks in advance.

kahlia, kahlua...? replied: "Luckily I have managed not to have any experience with either drug you mentioned, but would like to say those side effects will happen to anyone who takes drugs for bipolar disorder, those and possibly others such as seizures. But hey, as long as you're not boosting the economy with all your purchases or hurting someone's feelings with cuttingly true remarks.... You shouldn't stop trusting your doctor or go completely off meds prolly, but I would be scared reading those pamphlets too. It IS scary. Weigh your options.... Some people ten years later develop things that make it too painful to move or go to the bathroom and they wish they hadn't thought they needed psychiatric medicine instead of coaching before...."

sharkinthewater replied: "I've been using abilify since it first came out and haven't had any adverse side effects except insomnia so I now take it early in the day and then it doesn't seem to cause me any sleeping problems."

Doug Black replied: "I had a girlfriend with severe psychosis and hallucinations because of her narcolepsy (too many trips when she was younger) I remember rearching abilify for her as traditional meds wernt working well or resuliting in admisions because of acute toxicity. The side effects looked a bit dramatic but compared to the problems in general and the other meds it was worth a try and her doctor and Psyc agreed. As in the product literature it seemed to work very fast (I'd say about 10 days) there was a marked improvement and she became much more normal compared to her psycotic phases. The only real side effects were she peed a lot for a few days and was sick (we thought she was preg - but no its wasnt that), she had a few heaches for a few days, but that was really it, they were all gone after a week or so then the benefit of the drug started to really show through wehere other drugs hadn't worked. Of course everyone is different and reacts different to different drugs but from the experience I had of her it really seemed to work. If you want to know further you can go speak to your local pharmacist, they probably have much more time to talk to you about the side effects etc than a doctor and are perfectly qualified to do so. Or go online and look up the product literature which actually would give the statistics of the occurances of the side effects in test groups. Remeber side effects are short term and don't last that long, so think about weighing up the balance of short term side effects over a long term help."

Drug test, marijuana, and prescription drugs? Hello, I have a drug test tomorrow morning and I'm freaking out. It's for a brand new job I got and the last thing I need to do is to pass the test. Why am I concerned? I don't smoke pot anymore. I used to a few years back but not anymore. I do live with a roommate that does smoke on a daily basis. Even though I don't smoke it, I am around her when she smokes. For example when we're in the living room watching a movie. She will smoke and I won't. I'm the type that worries and gets paranoid a lot so this has me thinking that even though I haven't smoked in months, being around her might make me test positive. I'm also concerned about prescription drugs. It's been about three weeks or so since I've decided to come off my meds. I was taking 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL, 30mg of Lexapro, 300 mg or Seroquel, and 2.5 Xanax a day. Like I said, I stopped taking three of them about 3 weeks ago and have taken Xanax once or twice during these last few weeks to control anxiety whenever I can't on my own. Seriously, does anyone know if any of this could pose a risk to me not passing the test? I have my Xanax prescription bottle but don't have the other three since I've finished them and threw it away. I figure I can always get my doctor to provide proof that she prescribes them to me. I'm more concerned about the Marijuana. Thanks!

bubbakeeler replied: "well the perscription drugs won't matter becuse you have a perscription for them as long as they are yours and not someone elses and the marijuana if u are around her when she does it you are still getting a contatct buzz and so therefore there will still be traces of THC in your system but very small amounts i guess it just depends on how much they test you for but good luck!!"

Ashley P replied: ""Contact" smoke will not cause you fail a drug test. So don't worry about the weed unless you've smoked in the last six months or within the last year if it's a hair test. As far as the rx, i'm not sure if they show up but if they're rx then it's something that can be explained..Hope this helps.."

Can you tell me a bit about seroquel and depakote? I'm 14. My doctor sent me to the psychiatric hospital for a week to get meds. I am now taking 50mg seroquel in the morning and once at night. I'm takiing 1000mg of depakote in the morning. My diagnosis so far isn't really a full diagnosis. It says "pyschotic disorder NOS, rule out bipolar disorder latest with mixed episode with psychotic features".. So.. I really don't have a real diagnosis. Both of my meds are used to treat bipolar disorder. The first night I took them.. I got very sick. My body got numb, my head burned really bad, it hurt to pee, my hear rate was 42bpm, I couldn't see good, mouth was very dry, I hallucinated, I had diareaha, I vomited, I got very dizzy, and my heart skipped beats. So the next two nights I was doing a lot better with it. They doubled it the next night, and I got sick, bu not near as bad..The side effects slowly decreased. Now its my fourth day since they doubled it...Now, it makes me confused, clumsy, dizzy, drowsy, and I have to pee a lot. It makes me irritable too, but I think thats because I get so tired. It actually seems to be working a lot better now. My moods have been pretty good. Sometimes the side effects make me want off though but, it will be a week tonight since I started my meds. Is this normal? What is to expect? If seroquel doesn't work out, is abilify a good drug? I still get kind of paranoid, and its supposed to make that go away. I also want more help with my anxiety. Can I have caffeine with it? My parents approved of it. How else would I have it? and they are used to treat bipolar. Not just bipolar. Check the wbsites.

Daquestion4u replied: "My mom died in february and one of the main reasons was seroquel which the maker has a class action lawsuit going against it or did. Anyway DO NOT mix it with any other prescriptions, drugs or alcohol. I hate that drug I would kill the creator given the opportunity."

Stella replied: "You need to see an individual therapist in addition to whoever is going to continue to prescribe your medication. yes those side effects are normal (though extreme) and SHOULD lessen in the coming weeks. If if they get worse or you become suicidal, notify 911 or your doctor immediately. (I am not sure if you are still in the hospital?) These meds are not just used to deal with Bi-Polar. Depakote is a mood stabilizer (which is good considering your moody) and Seroquel is an anti-psychotic. it is not my top choice but it might work for you. There is a weight gain side effect for it although it doesn't happen to everyone. Abilify is okay but also comes with weight gain. Geodone does the same thongs but it also has an anti-anxiety component. i hope your legal guardian has approved the Seroquel as it is illegal for the doctor to give it to you without their consent with filing a ROGERS with the courts."

jaymessuicide replied: "The Person Above is a hallucienagenic psycho. not you. I take 300 mg of seroquel. as with any medication your body needs to get used to it... they should not have started you at 50. they should have done it slowly like they did with mine .... i took 10mg for 1 week.. 25mg the second week.... 50mg the 3rd and 4th week. then 100 for a few days and 200 for a few days then went to 300... . Seroquel is a very strong medication... I don't believe that it will kill you... when i was younger about 3 years ago ... (IM 21 btw. ) i took an entire bottle of 50mg's in a savage attempt to kill myself needless to say it failed and all i got was a little sick.... my older brother takes depakote... which has been known to cause diarrhea and such but it will go a way after your body adjust to the medication... I promiss."

hulagirl_32 replied: "I am Bi polar, major depressive disorder, seperation anxiety disorder and Boderline personality disorder and have learned to manage without meds. It is hard at times but i beleive the meds make it worse woth all the side effects. I wouldn't take either you will gain tons of weight which will make you more depressed and also cause health problems. I run everyday, do yoga, eat healthy and have a good counselor. Everyone is different but this is working for me."

I became an Athiest this year? I used to be very religious. I could never imagine life without God. Slowly, I got super rational, I guess, and just don't believe it anymore, after believing it my whole life. I used to have a lot of anxiety and mild depression, but I take Lexapro now, and Seroquel to sleep, and since I have, these past 6-7 months, I am no longer religious at all. It's like that button is broken. Is it the drugs? Or did I just come to my senses? Do you think the pills HELPED me come to my senses?

Zakk W replied: "You came to your senses. Welcome to the atheist club! :D"

mjs54321 replied: "you're an atheist? well, then I guess you are clinically insane. (jk)"

Emoly replied: "Maybe since you're not anxious and depressed anymore, you don't need to lean on the crutch of religion to make life bearable."

Lizzie replied: "I went through the same kind of change long before I got any anti-depressants. I think you just made a life decision and the pills had nothing to do with it."

beyaz replied: "Thats weird, you believed in God but now you believe there is no God,...it just doesn't make sense. Why can't you just believe in God without the religious pressure? Maybe you should see a psychologist, i don't think you got anxiety and depression because of your religion. If you have a strict Christian family, they might've scared you with all the religious pressure. I think its just the drugs."

Common Sense replied: "I am an atheist and I take no drugs.."

Bobby V replied: "I almost became atheist and it was a tough time for me. Luckily I found the truth. Maybe ur past religion wasn't fullfilling enough for u. Try others. I personally came to love Islam and never doubt it anymore. I can tell u some about it if u want, just send me an email. Dont listen to other atheists, there has to be a god, something above our creation, and something when we die. Maybe it is the drugs, but reserch anyway, a life without god is a pointless life."

luckyouaskhole replied: "You just came to your senses. Hmm it is possible that the pills helped because when you are depressed you look to God for help but now that you aren't you can realize that God isn't real."

anna k replied: "I think that people who are unhappy or in an anxious state will seek out something that gives them hope. This could be almost anything. In your case it was God or the way you imagined God. I have suffered from anxiety from time to time - probably since childhood. I have explored religions, meditation, exercise...you name it- when I was trying to deal with my symptoms. My guess is that you thought belief in God was the only hope. When you got treatment and felt better you came to the rational conclusion that God was not your answer. In fact your religious belief may have delayed treatment and therefore ultimately relief."

alias12345 replied: "now you can listen to LEFTOVER CRACK!!! wooooo!!! \m/ :0 \m/ :0"

Tn Hz replied: "To those who reject Our Signs, and treat them with arrogance, no opening will there be for them of the Gates of Paradise, nor will they enter Paradise until the camel can pass through the eye of a needle: Such is Our Reward for those who sin The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 7, Verse 40 But to those who receive GUIDANCE, He increases the (light of) GUIDANCE, and bestows on them their Piety and Restraint (from evil). How long does it take for seroquel xr to start to kick in ? all the ******* time i didn`t knew what the **** is wrong with me. sorry for my language, i`m guess i`m just pretty amazed by the fact that my neurve system is fucked up. i found it out only today. i thought that i have something like anxiety disorder or depression or wtf but simply my neurves are fucked up. so yeah i have been using seroxat xr for like 5 days and i can`t wait to fill the effects. so anyone who has been using it please post about ti like what you felt how did effect started and stuff like about this drug. thanks and have a good day and don`t keep your emotions with you. then you will be anxious. posted second question because i failed with drug name.

humpty dumpty replied: "Hi John T. Seroquel is an anti psychotic and you should start to feel relief any day now. These drugs are powerful and actually should start to work pretty quickly, of course depending on dosage. Because you are on extended release it will not hit you as hard, which in the long run will be a good thing, but in the beginning you probably would have benefitted from the straight dose. Hang in there it will work. Oh and a hint, you are probably fine in the mental health section about your language but I have been reported a few times in other sections. Use asterisks. I hate being reported."

space.soot replied: "Not long. If you've been on it for 5 days and dont feel it, it's not right. Seroquel is NOT a good drug. It made me gain 30 lbs in two weeks. It made me manic. I would not suggest taking seroquel. It's on my top 10 WORST psychotropics that I've been prescribed. I tried many meds to cure depression. I found in the end that a light box and klonopin are the best things for me. They are psychotropic, therefore dont mess with my brains functions."

what are the chances im pregnant????? i have NOT used a condom and he has NOT ejaculated inside of me... AND I HAVE DONE IT MORE THAN ONCE ( i know not smart, heat of the moment) 1. like how many sperm could have been released? 2. What are the chances that i could be pregnant. Is having to use the restroom a lot lately and getting acid reflex every night a symptom of being pregnant AND one more question- i take seroquel, lamtical, and luvox for anxiety and ocd can those drugs kill a fetus? or hurt a baby in anyway? THANKS SO MUCH!!!

oboemastah replied: "I think it is pretty close to a billion sperm released? Or is that how many a man has in a lifetime? I dunno... either way, it is hundreds of millions... you can get pregnant very easily."

john.grime replied: "Your very pregnant."

mom 2B again replied: "Wow. You need to stop having sex. Someone that takes that many different meds and ones that strong should not be having kids. Either stop having sex or use a condom. And there are millions of sperm released."

Squidge replied: "I managed to land myself pregnant while on the pill and using condoms so it is entirely possible. I take Zoloft, an antidepressant, and the doctor has said that it is fine to continue taking during pregnancy so I imagine anxiety pills are much the same."
