femmenotfatal replied: "I have found that one makes me feel just a little tingly and a lot tired. I took 2 once and it made me feel like i was breathing laughing gas. Really tingly all over. Bad thing about it was, I threw my guts up the next morning. I suggest you don't take it unless you need to. As with anything else, too much can really hurt you. opio-coca replied: "tramadol is a synthetic opiate. its doesnt come from the opium poppy like morphine and typical painkillers. it also has SSRI properties. so if you are on antidepressants or st johns wort you shouldnt take it because that can lead to seritonin syndrome. keep in mind seizures have been associated with tramadol so if you have epilepsy or some type of seizure disorder do NOT take it. other than those risk you should be safe and will provide an opiate like high similar to vicodin. keep in mind nausea is a common side effect"

Chris W replied: "when i took tramadol my reaction to it varied (which, in itself was odd). sometimes it would simply knock me out, other times i'd feel very 'out of it' and needed to lie down for at least an hour. needless to say, i had to come off it quickly. however, individual reactions will obviously vary"

From my experience I wouldn't recommend taking it unless you can sleep it off for the first couple times. After a week of so I was able to function fine while on it."

Kirstin F replied: "you'll have to try it to see. I take 400mg a day for pain without any problems at all - some nights I take sleeping tablets on top of them to get to sleep. I've never felt a high on it. The warnings say no codiene and no excessive alchol because tramadol will speed up absorption of those and affect you faster. I have recently started to feel dizzy and losing concentration but I have Lupus and my Dr told it's either progression of disease or more likely anaemia from disease so unrelated to medication. I tried 2x co-codamol 30/500 4 times daily too, but it did nothing for me. Tramadol, gabapentin and paracetamol together keep my pain bearable. I can still drive on that! I would say don't give up on it based on some peoples experiences - it works wonders for some people, try it just be alert for side effects and try to start it at the weekend so if it wipes you out you're ok."

Now I know what you're all thinking, and I know there are people out there just looking to get high off drugs, but in my case, i actually have a bad Ulcer (diagnosed - after endoscopy findings) and a frequent migraine which means I'm basically in moderate to severe pain 5/7 days a week. January 2008 the ER doctors starting giving me Vicodin as 'take-home' meds after IV Dilaudid, this routine basically occured like every month for the last year (until last week), and in different hospitals around a 20 mile radious. I believe there's over 40-50 maybe ever 100 of them if you go a bit beyond a 40 mile radius, which I never did because with Dilaudid invariably the nurses are very strict about getting a ride home and not driving yourself, which in my case, i was so immune to the effects, they actually injected me with 2mg Dilaudid like 3 or 4 times before the pain was really gone. The Doctor said that any other patient with that amount of Dilaudid would need oxygen. anyways. yada yada yada it's been a year and I stopped taking narcotics, and I'm seeing a pain management specialist. This pain management dr is supplying me with a ton of Tramadol and wants me to take those often when I feel the withdrawal effects of being without the narcotics. I tell ya it's brutal, no matter what meds you get to counter narcs it's no help. I talk a lot, but my real question is how much Tramadol does it take to get the same effects of one 5mg/500 Vicodin? And is Tramadol addictive like Vicodin? Please be serious with your answers guys, i'm going through a crisis here, and actually doing something good about it.

Personally if you take more then prescribe your risking your kidney and liver function. It may be your doctor choose this route because what you described above is the clinical soundings of a drug abuser. When someone starts talking about the radius of hospitals and having been a patient it screams addition. Most people stick with one hospital not a 10 mile radius. Another reason he may have choose tramadol is that you can take it for longer periods of time with out causing destruction to various organs. Good luck to you. Can i get high from tramadol? I know hydrocodone/acetaminaphin (lortab, vicodin) will get u really high beacuse it interacts with your opiod pain receptors the same way heroine and endorphins work, but since tramadol is not an opoiod and is "opiod-like" can u still get high? It is marketed as a "less drowsy vicodin"
