from zero carb to vegan? i have gazillion food intolerances that i am trying to cope with...first i went to zero carb sites and boards, read that bear guy`s story who ate nothing but meat...those guys were vicious about their belief that only good food for you is meat, the carbs make you sick. so i went zero carb, ate nothing but meat for a year and entire time i had chronic runs...i cant take it anymore...now i am thinking going vegan...i did it before and had no problems, but still those belifes that crabs are bad for you ingrained in my head so strong i am kinda afraid...
ok vegans, is your diet helping your health or are you doing it beacuse of your moral stand? oh and is it true that it lowers testosterone levels in men?
Hannibal the Cannibal replied: "Vegan diets do not reduce testosterone levels in men. It's just a backhanded way of calling vegans sissies.
I like this question because I can directly answer you from experience. I am a vegan, but chose this because I became disabled in the Marine Corps. I have a condition that cannot be cured, and the only option medical science tells me I have is to be drugged up for the rest of my life. No thanks. I happened upon a book that spoke about the correlation between our diets and the condition I have, and read that the best diet to manage my condition is a vegan and raw (50% of what you eat is uncooked) diet.
So I decided to give it a try and it's helped me out. I'm never going back.
If you want information on why it works, you can email me. Maybe some of what I've learned will help you.
As for carbs, I lost 100lbs in about 10 months and was also a bodybuilder...aka, I've gotten in shape and can tell you that you NEED protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, and minerals. What you need to avoid is processed crap. Eat natural foods!"
drusillaslittleboot replied: "If you're significantly overweight, and eat a lot of soy products (a half-block of tofu or more) per day, there is one study that suggests that your sperm count is more likely to drop.
Otherwise, veganism is totally safe. Most vegans do so for moral reasons, but at the same time, believe their diet is healthy.
Because you've been zero-carbing it, you may want to ease into veganism. As a vegan, you get lots of fiber, but increasing your fiber intake suddenly can cause stomach cramps, flatulence, diarrhea or constipation.
(Just as a quick addition - you can do lower carb veganism at first... just lots of healthy oils, greens, mushrooms, etcetera, and processed soy products or tofu)"
