How much will valtrex for genital herpes cost without insurance? Is there some kind of form of valtrex that is cheaper that i can take on a daily basis like valtrex because i dont have health insurance anymore... the last time i got valtrex for 7 days it cost $45 with insurance...

mamiforu replied: "Got damn that's a lot to pay! I guess I had better insurance b/c my copay was never over $15. What you do is stay away from the brand-names. The generics: valtrex -> valacyclovir...this may not be a generic yet famvir -> famcyclovir zovirax? -> acyclovir you can google the generics to see how much they cost, but they will be waayyyy cheaper. also some prescription websites have coupons...i know you used to be able to get them from valtrex website"

question asker replied: "I just got a Rx filled yesterday and with my insurance I paid $30.00 for my co-pay, but underneath it tells the amount my insurance saved and it said my insurance saved me $210.00 --- so I'm guessing a 30 day supply is close to $250.00 without any kind of insurance. Have you tried looking into any kind of patient assistance programs or things of that sort ? They can help you save money on prescriptions if you are uninsured. Good Luck to You."

LINDSEY S replied: "in Ontario Canada (where i live) it was about $60 for 12 pills at strength of 500mg (before taxes) and that was with out a drug plan (i believe that would be the equivalency of having insurance in the US). there are cheaper meds out there that do relatively the same thing as Valtrex."

lilwhizz replied: "You can get get Valtrex cheaper if you get it from Planned Parenthood. Otherwise, you could try the generic acyclovir (Zovirax) and get it for $4.00 30 day supply or $10.00 90 day supply from Walmart."

jadair130 replied: "Hey Brit - unfortunstly i sm one of the millions of Americans without Health insurance. I only use Valtrex - not the generic...the other stuff just doesnt work for me! Fortunatly for me I have HSV-1 which is oral (cold Sores) and only pop up once in a while - however the pharmacy charges me a crazy amoun of $45 for like 5 pills my doctor gives me full scrips - but i only get 5-6 pills at a time... saves on cash. If you need them daily I recomend switching to generic. Walmart $4 for the whole month. good luck!"

Love Florida replied: "valtrex is very expensive, but alternatives like are much cheaper, but only your doctor and you can decide which is safe for you and which works"

How much does Valtrex cost? Herpes related.? I think I may have genital herpes. Not sure if I do or not. I'm trying to convince myself to get tested. But if i do have it, how much will valtrex cost?

Katy replied: "Don't try to convince yourself to get tested. YOU HAVE TO. While herpes isn't curable, its treatable. If you don't treat it, it can have SERIOUS consequences. Trust me. It's also highly contagious. It would be irresponsible and very wrong of you not to get tested or to put anyone else at risk of catching it. Not to mention, you're putting your own life at risk. Go get tested immediately and abstain from ANY type of sexual activity (this also includes kissing, because herpes can be transmitted that way too) until you get a proper diagnosis. If you have it, you will have to pay for the meds so it really doesn't matter. Don't panic. There's always a way. If they turn out to be too expensive for you to afford, there are options. Be responsible. Look for a free clinic. Ask a friend or a doctor. Look up places and costs on the internet. Do anything and everything you can do. It's your life we're talking about. Good luck."

Whizzy replied: "You can get acyclovir for $4.00 at walmart."

Amb replied: "Depending on what your insurance is and how much it covers, some patients come in and get samples because it cost them about 30-50 a month."

brknwings0313 replied: "cash payment at my pharmacy is $283.00, but my insurance covered all of it except 40"

dallas dave replied: "about 150 per month if you get a 90 day supply, check this site for the generic supplier I use for my family's maintenance meds"

***starlite *** スター replied: "Check out the web sites fir Valtrex I believe the have an assistance program or printable coupons for a free month. Acyclovir is a generic form of Valtrex which is usually way cheaper that the brand name and works just as well."

matador89 replied: "Keepin it Real, There are currently 3 herpes antiviral medications available in Australia — 1:Aciclovir (INN) or acyclovir (USAN, former BAN), chemical name acycloguanosine, this is a guanosine analogue antiviral drug, marketed under trade names such as Cyclovir, Herpex, Acivir, Zovirax and Zovir. It is one of the most commonly used antiviral drugs, it is primarily used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections, as well as in the treatment of herpes zoster (shingles). 2:Famciclovir (INN) is a guanine analogue antiviral drug used for the treatment of various herpes virus infections, most commonly for herpes zoster; and 3: Valaciclovir (INN) or valacyclovir (USAN) is an antiviral drug used in the management of herpes simplex and herpes zoster. It is converted in vivo to aciclovir and is marketed under the trade name Valtrex or Zelitrex. Not being resident in Australia, I am not conversant with the benefit scheme or the local prices of this drug. If you are resident in Australia, I would suggest you consult a pharmacist for the answers to this part of your question. Which is better acyclovir or Valtrex? I know Valtrex costs more but does it work better than acyclovir?

beautifullyundone replied: "I've never taken Acyclovir but I am on Valtrex and I havent had an outbreak in 6 months."

kay_flood replied: "Valtrex IS acyclovir, it's just a time release formulation."

LINDSEY S replied: "They are the same thing one is a scientific name, the other is the commercial name. Valtrex works different for every one, but it does work for me."

Nicola replied: "People have there prefrences, I guess if you can afford Valtrex then try it. It is pretty much the same thing. Acyclovir is so cheap i get a months supply from walgreens for 10 dollars, but ive never tried valtrex."

tirespoke . replied: "yeah, valtrex is valacyclovir. basically acyclovir in a better form as it is metabolized in vivo into acyclovir. also, the patent on valtrex is up in june 09 so yay, we get cheaper generics!!"

Rivergirl100 replied: "The big difference between the three antiviral drugs for herpes (Zovirax - which is acyclovir, Famvir - with is famciclovir, and Valtrex - which is valacycovir) is how often you need to take them every day. Zovirax was the first antiviral available for herpes, and you needed to take it something like five times per day. It was effective, but the drug didn't stay in your system very long, so you needed to take it often. Famvir was next, and you needed to take it less often than Zovirax, but still more than once a day. Valtrex is advertised as "once-daily" Valtrex because they finally got the time-release stuff good enough that you only need to take it once per day. But its all the same stuff, really. And it all works about the same."
