Progesterone levels before clomid and after, did it work? I just got my progesterone level back after two miscarriages , it was a sad 3.8 has anyone else experienced this? My doctor brought up clomid. I was wondering if anyone else had levels this low and if clomid worked for you.
What were your levels before and after the clomid and did you get pregnant?
Also what are contributors to low progesterone levels?
Any info or success stories would be helpful. Thanks
Alison T replied: "Hi
Basically you didn't ovulate. The reason I know this is I am on clomid. My progesterone levels were 14ng, you need to be 30ng to have ovulated. I had clomid last year and did get pregnant but lost the baby in Jan of this year and am now back on clomid, my levels this month were 60ng. ( The miscarriage was nothing to do with clomid- my miscarriage was at 5 months).
So progesterone levels should be on day21 of your cycle above 30ng to indicate ovulation and above 40-100 could indicate you are pregnant ( or that you released one or more egg).
The low progesterone levels are because the first part of your cycle which stimulated ovulation ( so the hormones LH and FSH) aren't working quite right, hence no egg gets released, the egg then produces the progesterone, hence the levels of this go up from day 14-22. So I had bloods taken on day 2 ( to check FSH and LH) the follicle tracking scans on day 12 to see if an egg was developing) then bloods on day 21 to check progesterone levels. I took clomid day 2-5.
I hope all this makes sense!
Regarding your miscarriges, did they check your clotting factors? My neighbour had 3 miscarriages and then they checked her clotting factors, especially factor 5 liden ( i think thats how its spelt) and she had a problem with this, it means there is a problem with the placenta. But don't worry if you do have this, you take heparin every day and asparin and she has had one girl 2 years ago and is pregnant again and everything going well.
Good luck and don't get down."
What days did you have your progesterone levels checked on clomid? I have had bloods done to check if I am ovulating after taking clomid, day 18 progesterone level results were 2.9-no ovulation, day 21 were 12.9 so still not ovulating. My gyn has advised me to take another blood test on day 27 as clomid can make u ovulate later. Last month I ovulated on day 21. Have you been tested on day 27? or when is the latest you ovulated on clomid?
missi_mac replied: "Im not on Clomid but im having my levels checked ...it was day 7 and day 21 of your cycle..counting day 1 as the day you start bleeding..not spotting.
:)"
T. K replied: "When I was on Clomid, I was always tested on day 21."
tatty replied: "day 21.
I questioned this last time because my cycles are so long but the results showed i had ovulated so it must have been the right time,"
Progesterone levels on Clomid? I TTC naturally for a year before starting Clomid.
My progesterone level before Clomid was 6 naturally.
Month 1--50 mg Clomid, progesterone level 4
Month 2--100 mg Clomid, progesterone level 10
Month 3--100 mg Clomid, progesterone level 21.20
Took a month off to have HSG dye test, luckily no blockage and I did get 2 + OPK's on CD 14 & CD 15 but did not have my progesterone levels checked
Month 4--100 mg Clomid, progesterone level 13.41
Why are my levels so varied?
Is this normal?
Has anyone else had such a wide range of results?
pregnancyhealthguru replied: "This video explains a lot about Clomid I think you will find it very helpful.

Need baby dust replied: "It is very normal!! I levels have been crazy! I am on 50 MG I just finished my 6th round of clomid and praying this is my month!!
Before clomid - level 18
Month 1 - level 27
Month 2 - 47
Month 3 - 27
Month 4- 59.2
Month 5 - 10.5?!?
I just had an HSG done and it showed that both of my tubes were blocked. They were able to clear my left tube. I am hoping this is our answer!! I will say a prayer for you! You might ask for them to increase your dosage they can still do that. Good Luck!!"
TTC #1, clomid, progesterone levels, etc...? My husband and I just started going to an infertility specialist. I am currently on the 2 week wait from my 2nd round of clomid 50mg and ovitrelle trigger shot while trying at home. I had 3 dominant follicles one at 19mm and two at 20mm. Today I had my progesterone levels checked and they were at 31. I'm extremely nervous and cant take a test till the 16th but I am feeling a little crampy... Any body with a success story or that knows a little more about these numbers for encouragement would be very helpful!!
Someday... replied: "I'm TTC#1 still so no success story for you. But just wanted to say these numbers all look REALLY good. Best of luck and tons of baby dust to you!!!"
confusing results? on clomid - progesterone levels!? i went in for blood test to check for progesterone on day 21... my level was very low 0.5, they told me i never ovulated! next thing i go get more tests done just the other day about day 28 and they have just told me that I did ovulate and i have progesterone level at 30!! what is with this jump in level?? they said i never did and now i did.. is day 21 to early to test?.. im happy atleast i know a period will now soon.. i am day 32 now! the drs told me to wait another week see if period comes or test for pregnancy.. otherwise i start cycle 2 of clomid!
very disappointing to hear i didnt ovulate... never thought much more of it and now to find out i did!
thanks! i could have sworn i ovulated about 2 weeks back... had alot of symptoms etc so was surprised they told me i didnt! if no luck this time hopeuflly next time and i then can track my O a bit better to make sure i cover my bases!
i went in for my follicle check day 11, he predicted O on day 14 or 15!
thats why i am surprsed at day 21 nothing was picked up and they told me i never O.... i said to them is it possible i havnt O yet and there like Very unlikely.... so confusing doctors!
Tired of TTC replied: "You just obviously O'd later than expected...I would suggest BBT charting if you don't get pg this cycle so you know when to get your progesterone levels checked. BBT pinpoints the day of O through body temperature and is easy to do and you won't be left wondering.
The level of 30 is exactly what needs to be seen with clomid. It's not a 'jump' by any means...the level of 30 is 3x the normal lowest + for O number of a non-medicated cycle and with an O-inducing med, they like numbers 3x the normal level. There are 2 different measurements, though, and one measures 10 for + and the other measures 30 for +. It doesn't mean you're PG, it just means you O'd. There is no upper level for progesterone, meaning you could've had numbers in the several-hundreds and it doesn't mean Pgcy, it just means you definitely had a good O."
December replied: "some women ovulate late in the cycle..On average I have 32day cycle and i did ovulate on cd24, cd21, cd 18 and even cd16. It is difficult to predict my actual ovulation until i use bbt charting 6mths ago. My luteul phrase is about 13 days so after i ovulated, my test date will be on 14dpo."
Clomid and Progesterone levels? I am on my first cycle taking Clomid 50mg,
CD 5 thru 9. I had my 21 day progesterone level checked yesterday. My levels have jumped from 9.7 to 39. The nurse is supposed to have my doctor call and explain the results, but as usual, I have not heard back from him. I have looked up the normal values, my results seem to be high. Need some advice from you girls who are on Clomid. Did you levels jump as high as mine did??
babydolli1969 replied: "Since Clomid can produce more than one dominant follicle and more than one egg can be released, yes it's usual to have such a high progesterone."
pookeybear2823 replied: "Yes.
My levels actually jumped REALLY high. My dr was surprised that I wasn't pregnant.
My levels were up to 151.
Unfortuntately high levels don't mean pregnancy. It just means you have ovulated and your body is able to sustain a pregnancy.
Good luck!"
Stephanie replied: "My Ob never checked my levels. he was not specialist though. but the third cycle worked for me good luck, remember OPK"S! is a must I ovulated much later to I was very confused."
Low progesterone levels...is clomid safe? I've been TTC for about 8 months now with no luck. This past week I visited a new dr who had blood drawn to check my thyroid, prolactin and progesterone levels. Both the thyroid and prolactin came back normal and my progesterone came back at 1.3 which is strange as the night they tested I thought for sure I ovulated as I had more stringy mucus then I've had since trying. To get back to the point, they are going to start me on Clomid and I want to know what to expect with this drug. Please help.
I did question when they tested me as I felt like I was only starting to ovulate with the cramping and stringy (egg white) mucus that day. I also had some break through bleeding which I would say is abnormal but anymore I don't know what normal is with my body. I haven't been on any bc since last Nov. and even then I had the copper IUD as to not have the hormones and never missed a period and now since having it removed and actively trying I miss periods often. I'm so confused and just want more then anything another baby to love. I'm holding out this month works but then I guess finally having a dr. willing to try is GREAT in itself.
AK replied: "I had the same problem with low progesterone. I went on clomid and on my second try I became pregnant. I didn't get any of the symptoms it said you could get. But everyone is different."
mermaid replied: "Under a doctor's care, you have a very good chance of becoming pregnant. Good luck."
Usmarinewifey replied: "Well there r alot of side effects but useally the only one that happens is u will get more ovulation cramping I took 1 round of clomid 100mg cd3-7 that is also the only syptom I got! And clomid worked for me the 1 cycle now 13 weeks pregnant with twins!
Also clomid works by releaseing more than one egg so there a 10% chance of haven more than one baby!
After intercorse but a pillow under ur but for 30 min also wen on clomid use clear blue opk I useally bought two boxes test in morning and afternoon u can ovulate early as cd10-cd23 I found my surge on cd14
Hope I helped baby dust and cloimd is worth a try I'm sure glad I used it"
Starcatcher replied: "The best time to check progesterone is around cycle day 23. It will show if you ovulated and if you have enough to support a pregnancy.
If you are low, you can still get pregnant by taking progesterone supplements starting 3 days after ovulation but you have to continue taking them throughout most of the 1st trimester (until the placenta takes over making the progesterone). It worked for me twice.
Clomid causes high estrogen which due to the hormone feedback system can effect progesterone. Clomid is also know for causing poor lining and cm due to the high levels of estrogen. Clomid was actually designed to be a birth control but they learned that during the first 6 months of usage, it can do the opposite especially on low amounts. But taking progesterone supplements can help that problem. Another option is to take Femara. It works similar to clomid but doesn't have the cm and lining issues that clomid causes. It has the same success rate and twin rate with fewer side effects but it's hard to get doctors to prescribe it for infertility because it's only recently been used for that reason. If you have low progesterone, I'd push for Femara and progesterone support."
Rocker Wife replied: "Clomid is a wonder drug for a lot of women. There are definite success stories out there and considering how cheap it is, I would recommend trying it.
However. On your first cycle, I would get close monitoring. Clomid can have side effects that are counterproductive to fertility. Clomid can thin your lining (a thick lining is imperative to implantation) and dry up your fertile cervical fluid (fertile CM is critical to sperm surviving in the female reproductive tract). Also, you want ultrasounds to make sure your ovaries are handling the stimulation okay and you're not being hyperstimulated.
If you don't get these side effects you should be okay with it. Clomid doesn't affect me that way so not everyone gets those s/e's.
The other thing is be prepared for the emotional rollercoaster. It is common for most women to get hot flashes, mood swings, and headaches from Clomid. It's the amped up hormones that are responsible. Again, it wasn't anything that I couldn't handle and I would do Clomid again. For some women though, they prefer not to go through it.
The other thing I MUST say here is that progesterone levels are only valid if taken 7 days after ovulation. It's quite possible that your "low" results were because you weren't tested at the correct time. Timing is EVERYTHING with that test.
Good luck."
I am on Clomid and my Progesterone levels came back 52.2 Could I be pregnant? And if so does it mean twins?? My Husband and I have been trying to have a baby for a year now. I recentally went on Clomid and I am on my second month at 50mg's. I had my progesterone levels tested on the 7th day after a positive ovulation test. Anyhow my test came back 52.2. I have read that that is REALLY good and that I am either pregnant or carrying twins. Anyone have thoughts??
Today my temp dropped from 98.1 to 97.5 which means my period is going to start. Thank you all for your help and advise.
sweet_love45662 replied: "i was on clomid from march to june and now im pregnant. good luck . i hope im having twins."
jilldaniel_wv replied: "Unfortunantly it doesn't indicate pregnancy or twins, it just means you ovulated. And with a number that high you most likely released several eggs. So, that does increase your chances of getting pregnant and carrying multiples but a high prog. level doesn't mean for sure that you are pg. Good luck and baby dust!
So, have you tested yet? Let us know how it goes!!!"
chiquita11 replied: "you should ask an RE to get an expert opinion....you can ask online for free, check best of luck to you!"
Progesterone levels are low this month?? Clomid? WHY?? My progesterone level was a 10.5 this month. The past 5 months on clomid my levels have been 27,47,27, and 59.2. Can anyone tell me why my progesterone level dropped this month??? Do you think there is still a chance?? Thanks for your help!! I am praying for God's will and for all of you TTC too!!!
phenomenalwoman_ replied: "It's hard to tell without a little more information. I'm assuming you are on the 6th round of Clomid. Clomid cycles usually produce higher progesterone levels than non-Clomid cycles, but they can really vary.
Also, the timing of the test can very much affect the progesterone levels. The test is usually done 7 days past ovulation, but because it's called the 21-day test (because that would be 7 days past the average ovulation day of 14) some people have their levels drawn on day 21 despite when they actually ovulated. If you ovulated day 18, for example, your levels would be lower because the progesterone was still rising and hadn't reached it's peak.
That number is low for a medicated cycle, but it's not anything to be concerned about. The number indicates that you definitely ovulated and it is high enough to support a pregnancy if you are actually pregnant. Progesterone levels indicate nothing about pregnancy, so I definitely still think there is a chance.
Good luck and lots of baby dust!!!"
What was your day 21 progesterone level on Clomid? Mine was 12. If you got pregnant on Clomid, what was your day 21 progesterone level? If you didn't get pregnant on Clomid, what was your day 21 progesterone level?
Thank you for sharing! :)
luv2teach replied: "I had a 9.5 one month...doc said that was good, no need for clomid. Next month I had an 8...needed clomid. The month I took clomid my level was at a 12. I haven't gotten PG yet, but we also have male fertility factor."
