How can i reduce dog allergies??( claritin doesnt work)? i have a really bad dog allergy, its hard to breath, chest hearting, caughing. I take claritin daily, its not working thought. I never had an asthma,im a soccer player. HArd to train now. please help me!

Allie replied: "probably have to get rid of the dog.. (i am also sverely allergic to dogs and play soccer and softball so i bought myself a little shih tzu because theyre hypoallergenic.) i know that thats hard to do so go to your doc and talk to him about a prescription.. idk how long youve been taking claritin for but if you have been on it for a while, your body has probably become immune to it. if you dont feel like going to the docs, switch to Zyrtec. It works REALLY well ! allergies SUCK so i wish you all the best of luck in finding whats right for YOU =]"

DanD replied: "Bee pollin local to your area will help in 2 or three days...Limit your exposure to the K9 and your body will adjust and get used to it.... Good luck"

What breed of dog is in the Claritin D commercial? The Claritin D commercial where the lady is in the park I do believe, the dog is big black and white with long hair, the ears look like maybe it's mixed with Briard, or is this a full blooded breed? Thanks.

Love is a strong word. replied: "not sure, try going on youtube and looking up the commercial, if you find it post the link here so people can tell you the breed."

AcdRed replied: "I dont know if you asked this question too but the answer at wiki answers says it was a Karelian Bear Dog. "

Rachel replied: "I don't think I've seen that commercial before but by your discription maybe it's a newfoundland?"

Leonardo L replied: "I_luv_my_pomeranians, I haven't had any problems with my briard."

What breed of dog is featured in the Claritin-D commercial? My mother saw a Claritin-D commercial with the school bus driver, and there's a person playing in the field with a dog, and she's absolutely in love with that dog. I haven't seen the commercial myself, but I don't know if it's a mixed breed or what. If anybody knows what breed(s) of dog this might be, let me know!

TYNNA™ replied: "i think its a golden retriever but im not 100% sure.. i havnt seen the commercial in a long time"

What is the recommended dose of claritin (loratadine) for a dog? Pooch has skin allergies. I plan to try benadryl, but would rather use claritin due to its lack of a sedating effect.

mrsgrizzly1 replied: "I have the same problem with my dog. Whenever the allergies would flare up it would affect his ears and belly. I actually found that changing his food (he was on hypo-allergenic dog food) to a lamb and rice based food (instead of beef flavor) cleared up the reaction. Every once in a while I give him a benadryl if he has an exceptionally bad reaction. The dosage depends on the size, weight and the severity of the skin allergy. I'd call your Vet and ask them for dosage amounts."

chetco replied: "Hope these sites help. "

wolfy replied: "Take your dog to the dog to the vet. There are allergy shots your dog can have that are inexpensive, but you need to have an exam done to make sure its allergies and then the vet can tell you the recommended dosage of claritin. My min pin has to have allergy shots once a month plus she takes claritin during the allgery season."

what breed is the black and white long haired dog in the Claritin commercial? It's definitely NOT a Border Collie or Karlian Bear Dog.....but looks like it might be crossed with a bearded collie and some thing else.

Miracle Paws replied: "Its a Papillion. *IF* your talking about the commercial i am thinking of. Add: Are you thinking about the Zyrtec commercial with the black and white dog? If so that is a black and white colored Jack Russell Terrier."

BLACK AND WHITE FLUFFY DOG IN THE CLARITIN COMMERCIAL? This dog may be a Designer Dog .....soft long hair black and white fluffy...I don't have a picture...I see it all the time on the Claritin Commercials.

Kimmy replied: "whats the question?"

Pat W replied: "could have been a Border Collie they are very popular for commercials right now it seems"

How much claritin can I give my 80 lb dog she suffers air allergies and benadryl wipes her out.? It is saturday my vet is closed she told me to give her 1mg per # of my dog of benedryl or claritin or tavist I cant remember the amount of these two sorry I cant trust people on yahoo should have never asked you must be a bunch of animal abuser dont answer the question if you honestly dont know next time

chihuahualady264 replied: "you need to ask your vet this question, not a bunch of strangers on yahoo answers. Vets are trained to know this stuff, we on the other hand are not. I mean I could tell you to give 4 claritan but what if claratin is deadly to dogs??? Are you willing to take that risk? im not"

Rayven Wolf - Back In Action replied: "Ask your vet. You know the person who actually knows about your dog and its particular medical history and not people only who have never and will never meet, see or examine your dog."

Aprilaydee replied: "Why are you giving medication suitable for use on humans to a dog? Chocolate is fine for humans to eat but not for dogs so what's to say you're not slowly killing your dog?! Contact your vet and ask them to prescribe something specifically for your pet."

♫♪ Nekkid Bootie ♪♫ replied: "NONE! If you think your dog needs a different medication for allergies, then consult your vet. He can advice you on what to use and how much to give. Many human medications are TOXIC to dogs."

blah replied: "i would suggest calling a 24/7 vet. the emergency vets. animal hospital. they could tell you."

Does anyone know what kind of dog is used in the Claritin D commercial? The commercial shows a lady with her dog in the park

auspicous_carrot replied: "Jack Russel Terrier"

♥Golden gal♥ replied: "I've seen 2 commercials for Clartin D. One has a Border Collie and the other a Golden Retriever."

Sarah replied: "The one Claritin-D commercial (the one where she talks about having both indoor and outdoor allergies) has a Jack Russell Terrier in it. If you're looking for a dog, they are a wonderful breed. They have lots of energy, but they are also very sweet and affectionate. I have a Jack Russell Terrier/Pug mix."

snoopymccormick replied: "I saw one that has a Labrador in it... it's a chocolate labrador, and I only took notice because the dog looks exactly like my chocolate lab."

rubydragon_63 replied: "It depends on what commercial you're talking about (when it was on the television), they use different dogs. Maybe the attached link will help you out?"

A Dog Show watcher replied: "I'm in the US, but I think I just saw your commercial (the one with the lady in the park with a white and dark grey dog with long-haired ears that stand up). I have only seen the ad once, but I think that it is most likely a mixed breed with at least part West Highland Terrier and Bearded Collie (or maybe some type of sheepdog for the coloring). I like to watch dog shows, so I am pretty sure that it's not a AKC (American Kennel Club) recognized pure breed. If it's a purebred dog, I think the only possibility is a Skye Terrier, but the coloring, body shape and size seemed wrong (from what I remember). If you go to the attached link, you can see pictures of all AKC recognized breeds by running your mouse over "Breeds by group" and selecting one group at a time."

I gave my dog claritin as per the vet for the first time last night. She had a seizure. first ever. related? She also has an ear infection? Could this be the cause. She has never had one before. She is a 3 year old coonhound. She also has an ear infection? Could this be the cause. She has never had one before. She is a 3 year old coonhound. It was NOT claritin D and she is going to the vet today.

W. replied: "Do NOT give another dose. Make sure you did not overdose or use Claritin D. Call your vet again please."

Salt&Pepper Apricot replied: "Take her in today."

Anna M replied: "Your vet was wrong. NEVER give human meds to animals (or vice versa). Get a new vet and get the ear checked."

akitagrl07 replied: "I don't think an ear infection would cause a seizure, but I am not a vet. A new med seems the more likely culprit. I would take her in or at least call them and let the vet know what happened. A seizure is a SERIOUS reaction to any med and you should NOT give another dose of claritin."

Birddogger replied: "You did give Claritin and not Claritin D correct? Either way see your vet. If it's D see your vet immediately."

Jo replied: "It could quite well be related to the medication. The seizure could have been what's called an anaphylactic reaction (a SEVERE allergic reaction) to the medication. If this was the case your vet needs to be notified of this and they also need to review your dog immediately. Anaphylactic reactions can be fatal. Please have your dog looked at immediately. Better safe than sorry."
