Bleeding When Stopped Taking Depo Provera Information in Q&A
Will my bleeding stop after taking the first shot of depo provera? This is the first day of my cycle, I am scheduled to get my first depo shot on the second day of my cycle. This is not my first time taking this method of birth control, but it has been a while. Will my bleeding stop the day I get my shot? The first time I had this form of BC my cycle vanished the very next day, and I didn not experience a cycle until 6-8 months after my first shot. Will the same thing occur now?

Terri replied: "Some never have a period and some bleed for MONTHS on the shot. I would consider another option for contraceptives as this treats many women horribly Check out the reviews here and google depo prover lawsuit."

trilabyter replied: "Maybe. The results are not the same for everyone. That is why your first shot will only be a 3 month shot and not a one year shot. Some women still spot a bit, some stop bleeding all together and a few start bleeding really bad. You just have to wait and see what happens. You should discuss the possible side effect with your doctor in detail before you get the depo shot. Fore some it is a mirracle, for others a nightmare."

Abigail's Mom replied: "it might, but i did the total opposite AND developed ovarian cysts because of it"

snwwht82 replied: "no way to know until you get it. A friend of mine had it a long time ago and never had any problems or periods. She has it again now and has bled everyday since she has got it. this was here 3rd shot. She is alot older this time around and im sure other things have chnged to. It will all depend on how your body reacts to it this time"

Bleeding duration after Non-Periods due to Depo Provera? For how long does a girl bleed after taking Depo Provera ,to stop periods for 2 months. Is it heavy and for long duration than the usual 5-7 days? Serious answers Only !

shannon_mom_of_three replied: "I got 2 Depo shots and was still bleeding more than a period 7 months after the first. My sister was the complete opposite she bleed off and on for a couples months then no period. I think it just depends on the person."

How long is prolonged bleeding with Depo Provera? To all my experienced moms, who have taken this method of birth control. How long was your prolonged bleeding? Did it stop. This is my first and last time EVER taking this form of birth control because I have been bleeding for about 2 weeks now. I just want to know if it'll stop? I am to be going back to my doctor for my second shot but I am NOT taking this again I will go back to my pill?

Helena replied: "Wow! I thought I was the only one. I had the Dep Provera shot last October, I bled from the end of October to the middle of January! I went to the doctors many times from that, and they said I was just one of the unlucky people who just happen to bleed the whole 3 months. They prescribed me these pills to help stop the bleeding faster. It really sucks though! =["

has anyone stopped bleeding immediately or gotten pregnant on depo-provera? my period seemed to disapear! hope im one of the lucky ones! im 2 weeks late! whats ur take? thanks xx this is my first shot

Natasha B replied: "i was on depo 2 times and got pregnant both times some people lose their period while on it though"

sara.hollywood replied: "You have a period when you get the depo shot."

Kajjo replied: "1) Many women using depo-provera have no periods anymore. After one years of usage approximately 50% of all women have no menstrual bleeding anymore. 2) It is unlikely that you are pregnant. 3) The first Depo-Provera shot should be injected during the first 3 days of your period. It is then safe immediately. Do not worry. Depo-provera is a very reliable contraception method."

What can you do about heavy and prolonged bleeding with Depo Provera? I had a depo provera injection. When I got my period it hurt very badly. I had to take a painkiller that also thinned the blood. It seemed thick and clotted. That has NEVER happened to me before. My periods were always virtually painless. Now it's been 2 weeks since the first day of my period and stopped bleeding. But every time I try to have sex with my husband, or do some strenuous actvitiy, I start bleeding fresh blood again and the abdominal pain comes back. I've read that irregular and heavy or light bleeding are common side effects of depo provera. What I'd like ot know is, how long should I wait before having sex after I've had my period? This is my first time having sex and also taking the shot, so I don't know. Also, does this pain continue while using the shot, or does it diminish? Will my periods be less painful if I take the shot again? I'm due for another shot this July. What about natural herbs like wild carrot? Is it a good alternative?

Just Me! replied: "Please go see a doctor. For years I have had problems and you could be experiencing something that you need to take care of right away. If you loose too much blood you could be putting yourself at risk. I had no idea that I needed a blood transfusion after a few heavy cycles. You should not be experiencing pain, that is usually your body telling you something is wrong."

TTC #1 On Clomid! replied: "see a doc!"

After stopping Depo Provera, what can i do? I took one shot of Depo Provera(begining of August) and decided that I didnt like it because I was constantly bleeding. I've since stopped since taking it. My 2nd shot was due a little over a week ago. Me and my significant other are now trying to conceive. Is there a way to stop the bleeding? And how long will it take for us to conceive? im already anemic by the way

Elora Ann 12/27 replied: "You will have to wait for your hormones to regulate again for the bleeding to stop. You should wait to concieve for at least a few more months."

Raquel replied: "Well since you only got one shot of depo, it shouldn't take too long to get it out of your system. It can take some folks a really long time that have been on that form of birth control for over a year or more to conceive. You should stop bleeding in a couple of weeks, if you don't and feel weak, more tired than usual, or if its a really heavy flow, you should see your doc so that you don't become anemic; good luck!"

after taking the depo provera shot, when having sex i bleed alot, so i have stop. Why? i took the shot around November 26.

sokokl replied: "It could be a side effect of the Depo-Provera itself. When I was considering Depo-Provera several years ago for my medical issues one of the things that I was told was that breakthrough bleeding was a side effect of the medication I could have problems with. I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say."

Im on Depo provera and ive been bleeding for 3-4 weeks what can i do to stop it? iam 18 i started taking Depo provera,my aunt recommended it cause im not that good at taking pills i started it in june...from june to july i was good but the beginning of august i started bleeding and it wouldn't stop it lasted 3 weeks and KILLED my sex life lolz (try explaining to your boyfriend whats going on he wanted to rush me to the ER asap). I explained to my obgyn the issue and she said it would be better the second shoot. in sept. before i left for school i got my 2nd shot an it made the bleeding stop. now in november i been bleeding again for about 3 almost 4 weeks...iam exhausted, hella moody and just drained im due for another shot in 2 weeks but i want the bleeding to stop...help!!! is there anything..is there a better birth control method i should use. Can my campus health center help me?

shank_grrl replied: "If you're not good at taking pills, ask about the Nuva Ring or the patch. Don't continue with the shot if you're bleeding continuously. All you can do at this point is wait out though."

dobranoc replied: "i was on depo for a year and spotting blood, my doctor told me Oh just wait and it will stop never did stop! my best advised is to get off depo"

ja.bel4 replied: "depo-provera was the worst thing and woulod advise it to any one i bleed for 68 days straight and the doctor said wait it out i change doctors"

SMILE!!! replied: "Don't go back for another shot. From my understanding they can't make the bleeding stop, it'll just stop on its own once the hormones are out of your body. At the campus health center they can give you the nuva ring which you leave in for 3 weeks."

kristenlparker replied: "I've been on it twice. Once for 4 years and now for about 8 months. This issue can last 3 months, usually it will die down and then most people don't get a period at all! Just wait it out if you can, if you can't wait it out, switch. I tried Nuva Ring as well and it did the same thing to me. Pills are the only bc that really help regulate your period. For me, 3 months of horror were worth it for me. The only thing I don't like is after I get the shot I feel really moody. Good thing I have an understanding boyfriend."

depo provera jab bleeding? ways to make it stop? I had my first jab in march and didnt experience any side effects until now. I've been bleeding light/medium for 2 weeks now! Which has stopped me from having sex, my boyfriend isn't really fussed about it all however I'm going away on friday for the weekend with him and I will be so gutted if I still have this problem! I am going to make a doctors appointment about it but I know this is a common side effect, my friends think i will just be told they cannot do anything about it and i have to ride it out. Im despairing! Has anyone else had this problem and managed to stop the bleeding? I used to be on the pill but changed to the jab as I’m quite forgetful however I still have a packet left, might be a really dumb question and dumb thing to do but is there a chance that it will stop if I start taking the pill as well? Thanks for any advice!

Little Red Cookbook replied: "You really can't stop the bleeding, you just have to wait it out. There's nothing that the doctor can do for you - this is a well known, untreatable side effect.Taking more birth control pills won't do anything at all - you're not bleeding for lack of hormones. You're bleeding because of how depo-provera works. It causes you to shed the lining in your uterus, thus making it incredibly difficult for embryo implantation. It just so happens that your body is taking a few weeks straight to do it. I wish I had something more inspiring to tell you, but that's the sad truth."

Pico replied: "I got depo back in November and every month until April my period would last for about 14-16 days. I had about a week of regular bleeding then about a week of light bleeding. There is no way to get it to stop and you do have to just ride it out. I have no CLUE what would happen if you took the pill and I don't advise trying that until you speak to your doctor!!"

Holly B replied: "Hate to say it but you are going to have to ride it out. It is in your system and will be in there for 3 months. Hopefully your bleeding will decrease as the weekes go by. My friend was on depo provera & she had the same problem. She bled for weekes at a time. So now she's on the same birth control pill that I'm on, Loestrin 24 Fe. Taking your birth control pills will not make it any better, & it is not usually ever recomended. & It could deffinitly make it worse & you may not want to risk that. Just ride it out. Hope this helped :)"
