Can Anti Biotics Cause Blood in Urine? I started taking Doxycycline 5 days ago because I got sick after being bitten by a tick. I seem to be responding well to the anti biotics but all of a sudden, I have a good deal of blood in my urine. I feel as though I have a bladder infection.
could this just be a symptom of chlamydia? So I was at the doctors and they told me I had chlamydia and I announced that of course I had no symptoms I've been on doxycycline for about 2 days now and as of just an hour ago I noticed a burning when I pee, and to pee frequently now I was wondering if thats just from the chlamydia or is it an occurring bladder infection/ UTI and how can it be if I am taking anti biotics
cutekitten replied: "it's a symptom of chlamydia-sometimes chlamydia is mis-diagnosed as a UTI. it should go away soon with your antibiotics."
Kaley replied: "I had Chlamydia last year and was also given Doxycycline to cure it. The only symptom I had of Chlamydia (before I got tested) was increased discharge and irritation during sex. Once I started taking the antibiotics, I got every symptom in the book! Your frequent urination and burning is because your body is fighting off the STD. All of those will go away around day 5 of your treatment. However, remember that your body is still fighting off the Chlamydia, even after you take the last pill. If you have symptoms like 10 or so days after you took your first pill (you should be done with your pills by now), then you should go back and get tested for it again because the antibiotics may not have worked. Good luck and I hope I helped!"
herpes or a something else? this is a very long story...
In April of this year I was diagnosed with chlamydia. I believe I contracted the std in January. I took antibiotics and retested for it 2x in the past 3 months to be safe and the results were negative both times. However, since April I have had very painful urination ONLY on my urethra when I pee. I was tested for a bladder infection about 3 times and they all came back negative. I tested for HIV and Gonorrhea as well and that came back negative too. Finally they tested for a bacterial infection which came back positive. I was prescribed different antibiotics during this time but my symptoms did not go away, it stilled burned every time I would pee. Finally my doctor prescribed a estrogen cream called "Estrace" (typically used for woman going through menopause - but I am only 25 years old) and it worked! my burning sensation significantly reduced.
well, about a week and a half after I started using this cream, I had unprotected sex with someone I didn't really know. I was drunk but noticed that during the sex I was very dry (which is unusual for me, I get very wet 90% of the time) and his penis's girth was rather large - so it stung a bit and therefore we stopped.
The next day it really burned when I peed. I was really discouraged thinking my symptoms were back but then I got really paranoid about STD's. 4 days after we had unprotected sex I went to the doctor and told her my history and the fact that now I have had a burning sensation since intercourse. So she sent out for a culture of chlamydia and put me on 2 antibiotics to be safe. (one for possible bladder infection - Sulfamethox for 3 days - and one for Chlamydia - Doxycycline for 10 days) The first day I felt like I had the flu! my entire body ached and even my joints were sore. The 2nd night I actually vomited but I'm sure that's was because I had them on an empty stomach. I also started to notice an INTENSE vaginal itching sensation ONE hour after I took the pills. I thought it could just be a side effect of the antibiotics, maybe the beginning of a yeast infection, but over the past 3 days it has turned into an open sore on the base of my labia. I was very alarmed and went to the doctor today.
He says my sore is very suspicious of herpes and sent out for a culture test. He also put me on Acyclovir 3x a day for 10 days to start treatment in case the culture is positive for herpes. He said if it is herpes, the sore will get better, if it is not herpes, the sore will get worse or not change.
My questions:
My concern is that I did not have white pimple like bumps that is typical in a herpes outbreak. Is that normal for people to NOT have the white bumps before a sore if you have herpes? I also had symptoms 4 days after unprotected sex and am unsure if that is too soon for the herpes virus to show up.
I am also wondering if during intercourse I may have torn somewhat due to his size, but why would it itch so much 4 days later if it was a tear and then turn into an open sore?
Could this all just be a side effect to my antibiotics since I started to notice the itch only after I took the antibiotics?
Could the Estrace cream I had been using cause a sore to develop?
Or me fear is that yes, it is herpes. - I should know by next week.
I informed the person I had intercourse with about all of this. He said he has never had an outbreak or symptoms of genital herpes before but has also never been tested. To the best of his knowledge he was clean. But I do know that some people can go with out outbreaks for years and not even know they have it.
Any personal stories I can compare my situation with would be greatly appreciated.

Kathy C replied: "Herpes can present itself as a single sore, or multiple sores. I do not have it, but I have read about it in medical books, and have had friends that have it. To your second question I doubt you tore anything, the vaginal canal is elastic as to be able to birth children. You could have had or have INTERNAL sores, that you cannot see that is the source of your distress.Antibiotics can disrupt your natural vaginal flora and can cause your vagina to itch like crazy. I have had this, and when I quit taking the antibiotics it goes away, or the yeast can grow out of hand and then you have to treat it with monostat or something along those lines. A yeast infection can make it red and raw down there. It can be kinda painful. Your guy might or might not have know he had it. You will never know if he was telling you the truth or not. If I were you, I would see if u would be a good candidate for the Gardesilla, the HPV vaccine, as to prevent cervical cancer if you do get this virus, the virus that causes genital warts. If you continue to have unsafe sex, u will get this for sure. You also will need to be tested for HIV for the next year, every 3 months to know for sure that you do not have it. Bottom line it is not worth it to have unsafe sex. Just get a vibrator, honestly, clitoral stimulation can be better than actual vaginal intercourse. u can always count on your battery operated friend."
