Can taking Bactrim for a UTI cause my tooth ache to become worse? I have had tooth pain for a few days, but I started Bactrim for a UTI yesterday and coincidentally the tooth pain got worse. Is this a coincidence or is it possible that the antibiotic, for some weird reason, caused the pain to worsen?

Marcia T replied: "Purely coincidence"

Julzz replied: "Coincidence, actually the antibiotic will help your tooth pain if you have an infection or an abscess. It will kill the infection in your blatter as well as your mouth. Hope you feel better soon."

I am on Bactrim for a UTI. I think I now have developed strep. Will the bactrim I am on treat it? I have been on Bactrim for a UTI now for 4 days. I think I now have strep. I have a sore throat, white patches, ear pain and pain when swallowing. Will the Bactrim treat it or do I need a new antibiotic?

kay_flood replied: "you need to be tested for strep first. Just because your throat is sore doesn't mean you have strep, the white patches could just as easily be thrush. So, get tested, then the doctor will make recommendations as to what you should do."

Can I eat activia while taking bactrim ds for a uti? I have taken bactrim ds for 2 days and have not had a bowel movement during that time. I know activia can help regulate you, but a lot of websites say to avoid dairy. Is it okay to eat activia or should I find something else?

harley_pa replied: "It is just fine. And, in fact, it is a good idea to replace the "good" bacteria in the gut that most antibiotics, including Bactrim DS, kill during the course of treatment. Good luck."

JL replied: "Yes, you are fine."

How long does it take before a UTI goes away on Bactrim DS? I started taking it today and my doctor said it would kick in right away but I still have the same results as my over-the-counter drugs. And also, can I take the over-the-counter symptom reliever while I'm on the antibiotics?

alyssa replied: "Bactrim didn't work for me, I had chronic UTI's and one in particular went to my kidneys, they had to give me an antibiotic injection as a plan B."

Annabelle Lee replied: "It definitely won't kick in right away. If, after two days, you don't feel better, see a doctor."

Steph-->Devin's Mommy replied: "First of all bactrim sucks for a uti. It makes me feel horrible. After 2-3 days you should start to feel a difference. But it wont be all the gone usually 7 days."

Over a week ago, I was treated for a UTI with Bactrim. The bacteria is resistant. What are my options? Now I have a more than light volume of blood in my urine. So much so that initially, I mistook the blood as my period. I am allergic to Cipro and Ceclor, cillins and mycins. What is my alternative? If Sulfa doesn't work, do I have any options? PS: No insurance for 66 more days and Leviquine (sp?) is not an option (too pricey).

chantel replied: "Here's a great resource since you don't have insurance yet. Definately get some antibiotics before your UTI gets worse. If you go to they carry antibiotics like Zithromax or Tetracycline which work really good. Just fill out the short form and the online doctors will help you and then issue and fill your meds and ship them next day to your door. Go check it out and don't let your UTI go too long and you end up in the hospital!"

LINDA R replied: "I know that you don't have insurance, but you need to call your doctor. UTI could lead to kidney damage if it is not treated promptly."

Does anyone hav a little girl who suffer UTI n have to take bactrim in long period? When she was 4 month old, her pedi told me that she has UTI, n have to take bactrim to prevent the UTI again. Is it dangerous to take antibiotic that long?

Angelbaby replied: "I would get a second opinion"

Colleen O replied: "How long? Usually an antibiotic is prescribed for 10 to 14 days...and that it ALL has to be used up to prevent the recurrance of the infection in the near future...I don't think the doctor meant indeffentately...You must have misunderstood."

Angel Mia replied: "My daughter has the same problem, she is now 5 months old and has had now 4 recurrences, started when she was 2 months old. She has an appointment next week with the neurologist and she will be put on medication for a couple of months. One of my friends daughter also had the problem and was also put on medication for a long period of time, she is now 4 years old and perfectly fine."

kombidude71 replied: "Hi, My daughter had a UTI at 2 mnths, She has just completed a series of tests and it turns out her infection was caused by urine flowing up to her kidneys when she pees. She has to stay on Antibiotics and have regular scans. When the condition "grows out" she can stop the drugs. I am not exactly over the moon about a long course of antibiotics however the effects of her having a number of UTIs (which could happen) could be far more damaging to her long term health than a long course of antibiotics."

UTI Bactrim dosage question? My doctor prescibed bactrim for a uti...but the dosage is 1/2 tablet three times a day and he only prescibed 7 tablets...seems like a very low dosage..will it clear it up or will it return soon?

hotdogsarefree replied: "each dr is different as to dosages/as to will it clear up???/it should/ but they may also return"

MissD replied: "Start taking cranberry pills. If you get them frequently (like I do) you'll really appreciate how much they help! I take 3 cranberry pills a day to keep myself out of the ER. But maintain your urinary tract or you'll wish you did. I've urinated blood for hours from not taking care of mine. And it's an insanely painful thing!!! Best of luck."

This is for any women who may be able to help me..I am taking the Bactrim Antibiotic for a UTI...? I am taking Bactrim (the generic version) and I am developing symptoms of what could be a yeast infection. Can Bactrim cause yeast infections to form? Thank you for any answers.

Fire fly replied: "Yes, all anitbiotics can upset the normal balance and cause yeast infections. Be warned, if on the pill, use a back up protection while using antibiotics!"

Dot replied: "yes, it can cause a yeast infection. If you notify your physician they can call you in some diflucan to the pharmacy to take care of that."

ShortStuff replied: "Yes, I just took Bactrim for a UTI and I developed a yeast infection as well. Annoying isn't it?"

A. P replied: "Bactrim is an antibiotic, so yes it IS possible to get a yeast infection from it."

UTI - Bactrim and AZO combo? I have a UTI. I got put on a week of Bactrim, but I still feel urgency.. Can I use AZO while taking my antibiotic?

LT replied: "I have but read the package just to refresh your memory. If you're still in doubt, call the docs office and ask. They'd rather have a patient ask a question than have a reaction."
