Can you take amoxicillin while pregnant? I am 18 weeks pregnant and I think my tooth is becoming infected. Before I got pregnant, my dentist gave me some amoxicillin and I have some left over. I need a root canal but I am trying to wait until after I have the baby to get it done.

KKingS replied: "Yes, it is on the list of safe antibiotics while pregnant...unless you are allergic to penicillin. Trust your doc. And if in doubt...you can ALWAYS double check with your pharmascist when picking up a prescription."

RIght now I'm 40 weeks pregnant and my baby is perfectly healthy. I think that's one of the prescriptions that are safe to take during pregnancy."

Sourkandy19 replied: "Yes it's safe, it's one of the few antibiotics that are. It's not very strong, so unfortunatly depending on what your taking it for, it may not work. I'm 8 weeks along, and have a ear and sinus infection and taking amoxil, so far no luck with relief yet, but it's only been 3 days. My OB told me Zithromax is also ok while pregnant, and it is a little stronger,so if this doesn't clear up what you have, make sure you let your dr know and they can change the antibiotic. TA replied: "Yup, it's safe. I've been on and off penicillin throughout my pregnancy for Group B Strep control (or an attempt at it anyway) with no harm done. Just follow the dosing instructions to a "t" because it might be a little different than normal. And trust in your doc - she knows what's best! I was the same way with the first antibiotic I got for a UTI, and they assured me it was a low-level dosage and perfectly safe. Feel better soon, for both of you! :)"

UTI i love pepsi can't stay aways from it. but anyways it dnt cause my baby to have any sorta defects what so ever he is actually quite smart for a 2yr old and advance, narcotics aren't good to take while preg or anti depressants"

amoxicillin while pregnant? i went to the doctor yesterday because i suspected i had a UTI and it turned out i did and i also had a bladder infection and she prescribed me to amoxicillan 500mg capsules 3 times a day for the next 10 days. she wasnt my regular doctor, but i told her i was 17 weeks pregnant and she said "okay we will get something safe for you and the baby" and then she wrote that prescription. i went and got it filled and i'm reading the prescription insert on the way home and it says "warning: talk to you doctor before taking if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant" and this was alarming to me because if it was 100% ok for me to take this amoxicillin while i'm pregnant then why is a warning like that even on there? my question is, is it really safe for me to take it? i might be being overly paranoid (i cant help it) because i told her i was pregnant but the warning being on there just doesnt sit right with me if its really ok for me to be taking this. and i'm 17 years old and 17 weeks pregnant if that matters at all.

The doctor wouldntve given you something that could hurt the baby with knowing. I have had a uti while pregnant and was prescribed amox."

But my dr, with my 2nd pregnancy gave me pills for the migrains i was having, and turns out they can cause mis-carriages, not saying amoxicillin will cause a mis-carraige, but get a 2nd opionon, or idk if u have like urgernt care or something at ur clinic/hospital.. but just call and ask for a nurse.. it doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opionon."

I believe the reason it says to talk to your doctor before taking, is because it can be secreted into breast milk if you are currently breast feeding. If you have any concerns, just call your regular doctor and ask. You can never be too safe. And Good luck with the UTI. They are not too fun :("

bindyangel replied: "Its good you are paranoid and worried about what you are putting into your body. I have taken amoxicillan while pregnant with two of my three children. They have been fine. You have to weigh up the risks/benefits. Having a bladder/uti can be harmful to the baby too (it increases risk of premature labour). I had to get on an antibiotic for an ear infection during my current pregnancy, and both my primary care physician and my OB specifically picked Amoxicillin because it is safe during pregnancy. (Too bad it gave me hives, but at least it's ok for my baby!) Have you noticed that virtually everything has the warning label, "talk to your doctor before taking if you're pregnant?" That's because it's more cost effective for manufacturers to slap on that warning label rather than run the necessary tests, and it serves as insurance."

can i get pregnant while on Amoxicillin and birth control? so i took my wisdom teeth out tuesday (8/28) but the last time i had unprotected sex was monday (8/27). [i am on birth control] i have not done it ever since then but can i get pregnant while on Amoxicillin even though i have not had sex during the time i am taking it and will not be doing it in the future?

I do know a girl that was on the pill and got pregnant because she was taking antibiotics for a kidney infection. they do cancel out birth control so i would just recommend not having sex until you are completely done with everything."

Try eating yogurt daily and avoiding the use of soap in the vaginal area. Yeast infections can be treated with medication during pregnancy. It is important to discuss the antibiotic use and any concerns about vaginal infections with your obstetric health care provider at your first visit."

I took Amoxicillin while pregnant. Help!!? Does anyone know what could happen? I was around 3 weeks pregnant. My OB visit is this week. they were 800 Ml and got a ampicillin shot on my butt cheek.

Elyse R replied: "I took amoxicillin. I had pnemonia when I was in my 4th month of pregnancy. The doctor and I knew I was pregnant and he prescribed me antibiotics to get rid of the pnemonia. He said it was safe for the baby. It made me feel much better! There are no complications with the pregnancy at all. The doctor would not prescribe something if it was not safe for both me and the baby. Good luck!"

is it safe to be on amoxicillin or keflex continuously for 6 months while pregnant? iam 14 weeks pregnant with my second child and am having recurring uti's.which i also had with my first.i also have kidney reflux.my docter wants me on the drugs for the rest of my pregnancy. iam concerned about possible long term effects on myself and unborn baby.i have an appointment in a couple of days but wanted to have some information before i agree to this.

NOT ONLINE many meds are ok for some and not for others seriously go to a dr ask these questions..."

Generally you will be put on a milder anti biotic that is safer to be on while pregnant. Discuss the concerns you have about this with your doctor to get the best info. Congrats on your pregnancy!"

baby girl on the way 11/26/08 replied: "well usually for UTI's they dont use Keflex or amoxicillin....those arent the usual drugs. Usually they use bactrim, macrobid, and there's a few more that are used specifically with UTI's. Im sure its safe if they want you to take them, however, being on them long term like that, there's a very high chance after a while they will not work, as your body just gets immune to the antibiotic itself."

If however the second doctor says the same as the first, then make sure you take Inner Health Plus, because being on those (especially for that long) will give you terrible thrush."

Is amoxicillin or amox-clav safe to take while pregnant? doctors or nurses andsers only please? for a serious ear infection, insurance hasnt cleared yet so i cant see a doctor, but i had an ear infection 2 months prior to getting pregnant and i recieved a double dosage so i have the full 10 days left. p.s. im in my first trimester sorry...major ty-po. *answers

It is considered 'safe' in that no harm has been demonstrated, but like all mediciations, use in pregnancy is only considered if the benefit out weighs the riskd. Bottom line - ask your doctor."

Can you get pregnant while on the pill and Amoxicillin? I was on Amoxicillin for about 2 weeks. 2 pills s day. Im not the best with my birth control either. I have missed a few pills through out the pack. but I have been on B/c pills for about 1 1/2 yrs now. I got my monthly, was really light and extended and then went into a normal flow for about 1 day. The last 2 days I have been nauseated by any strong smell and have even thrown up a couple of times :( I feel like crap suddenly. I t has been about 1 1/2 weeks since i stopped taking the anti biotic. and one more thing.. My libido has been through the roof!! Normally it is very low.... Do you think I could be pregnant? I just started my new pack of b/c. When should I test if anything. me and the b/f have been together for 1 1/2 yrs now. We do not use condoms due to the b/c. Thanks guys, I was so out of it I didn't read the labels. I had just had my wisdoms removed. I just recently saw something about antibiotics and the effects on birth control... So it made me think after i started feeling sick....

I don't want to scare you, but anitbiotics drastically lower the effectiveness of bcp's, and if you are not good about remembering to take them at the same time everyday, that increases your odds of pregnancy even more. Test right away and if it is positve do not continue to take your bcp's. If it is negative, proceed with this pack. Good luck"

If you got your period, it usually means no pregnancy. get a blood test done if your not sure. just because nausea and aversion to food is a symptom of pregnancy, doesnt mean your pregnant, as that doesnt even come until much later in the pregnancy. your probably sick. considering your were just on a round of antibiotics, id go to the doctors for another check up if you were still feeling crappy in the next two days.
