Is it a bad idea to drink any alcohol while taking accutane? I've just noticed now that I am on accutane, I can't even drink two beers... I get a hangover the next day. It's not the worst situation in the world, but I am trying to figure out if it's in my head or if the accutane may be causing the hangover by not mixing well with alcohol.

I wasn't prescribed accutane but I was on antibiotics for my acne & they were so harsh on my system I had no choice but to go easy."

Lauren replied: "well i drank while i was on accutane which is very stupid and the doctors should tell you not to. but they wont just be like you were drinking alcohol! your liver just might be a little more shot and what not and they might be hesitant to keep you on accutane because its hard on your liver and so is alcohol and together it can cause serious problems"

How soon can I have alcohol after taking Accutane or Amnesteem? I have just finished 6 months of Amnesteem, and it was worked out well. I am just wondering when I have alcohol, because I stayed away from it for the last 6 months. I figure it wouldn't be a problem if I waited a few days after the last pill and then have a few drinks. Does accutane lower your alcohol tolerance? I know you're not supposed to drink while on accutane but I was just wondering if you get drunk faster while on accutane.

John N replied: "in a sense, yes. accutane is metabolized by the liver, and so is alcohol. you're putting a lot of pressure on the liver by mixing the two. I wouldn't do this, because if you think acne is a bad thing, wait until you have some sort of liver failure."

Does accutane cause you to throw up when you intake alcohol? I have been on accutane for four months now and the results have been excellent! I am now entering into my fifth month. neil k replied: "GO VEGAN I was once on accutane, and well I still may have gone on a drug like that if I still had acne but chances are if I changed my DIET and went vegan and was aware even BEYOND VEGANISM concerning different chemical-additives in food...well chances are that I would not have had to go on a drug in that way, maybe so maybe not. cutiepetootie replied: "Interesting side effect. When I was on it, I couldn't get drunk no matter how much I drank. A very expensive experiment on my behalf. My unpleasant side effects included chest pains and my skin was so dry I was using Vasoline for a moisturizer and it was still peeling and flaky. I was only on it for 3 months at half the dosage. When I went off Accutane I lost a lot of my hair. My hair would literally clog the vacuum. Very gross. I consulted a homeopath and she stopped that. Despite the side effects, I'm very happy with the results. It's been 10 years and I get about 1-2 pimples a month and they're pretty tiny. If your doc didn't tell you...be very careful about getting sunburnt, don't go into tanning beds. I also read online that Accutane can cause suicidal depression so be careful! Still worth it, though!"
