How long will it take for Lexapro to leave my system? I was on 10mg of Lexapro for 4 days but it made me sick. 2 days ago i switched to Zoloft, but am still feeling nausous. How long will it take for Lexapro to get out of my blood?

e837 replied: "It has a half life of 25 hours. So in order for the liver to metabolize it completely, it would take 50 hours. If your liver function is fine, then this cycle should properly complete in this time frame."

skcs11 replied: "sould be gone by now"

I know, I know!!!! replied: "Actually it may not be the Lexapro causing the nausea. I have taken both meds and I distinctly remember the Zoloft making my stomach feel upset for the first couple of weeks that I took it. It is normal for it to happen and it should be fairly mild, not severe. The feeling should go away after about 2 weeks. Your body will get used to the Zoloft. Good luck to you. I hope the Zoloft works for you. I have many many years of experience with anxiety disorder. I have been prescribed every anti-depressant and SSRI you can imagine."

What happens if i stop taking lexapro will i have withrawal symptoms? i have been taking lexapro for 3 months. if i stop taking it will i be in danger?

ellie replied: "You need to talk to your doctor about this. Some SSRIs must be tapered off - you can't just stop. Why do you want to stop? Unless it's because you don't like Lexapro (I didn't), it's probably best to continue with your medication - 3 months isn't a very long time. If you just don't like Lexapro, your doctor may advise you to change to another SSRI. I went from Lexapro to Prozac without any time in between, just changed over, and I had no problems. The Prozac worked for me, and, with talk therapy, allowed me the space to get my life together. For the last 3 years, I've been off medication and I've been happier than I've ever been."

Mathew replied: "Hey, I stared taking Lexapro about 2.5 years ago for "circumstantial" depression. I was also attending psycho-therapy sessions monthly, but when the symptoms of depression got very hard, i.e suicidal thoughts constantly, I increased these sessions to weekly. The therapy helped me more than Lexapro ever could have. Now, with help from the Therapist, I've worked out what my demons are and am able to recognize their triggers. I stopped taking Lexapro (cold turkey) over 2 weeks ago. Initially I stopped accidentally. I started a new job that changed my daily routine. At day 5 of not taking Lexapro, I decided to continue cold-turkey as I hadn't experienced any recognizable symptoms of withdrawal. However, within a few days the symptoms began in earnest and continue still. My symptoms were as follows:- General malaise Chronic lethargy Crying spell (just once thank God!) Dizziness accompanied with "electic brain zaps". (By far, the most persistant symptom for me) Irritability and unreasonable aggression Slight diarrhea Like most people have stated, going off a potent drug like Lexapro cold turkey is not a good idea. I wouldn't do it again. My therapist recommended weaning off very slowly over a period of time that is half the amount of time that you've been taking the drug. I certainly would't recommend going Cold Turkey you to anyone else. Hope this helps,"

ToxLabRat replied: "Yes, yes, yes. The above is correct. SSRI drugs are some of the worst to stop taking suddenly. Even though you feel as though they are not helping you or making any impact on you, they are if only from a chemical process situation within the brain. Stopping these drugs suddenly (even if you have only been on them for a month or 6 weeks) can cause severe withdrawl and also these drugs have a high risk to cause seizure in patients who stop them suddenly. I would urge you to ween off of this drug under the care of a doctor. Even if you do not want to take any more medicine (which I know many people do get to that point), at least go back to the doc long enough for her/she to help you taper off slowly and safely. If you cannot make it to your doctor, or are no longer a patient of the prescribing doctor, then at least make sure to taper off of this drug slowly. If you do not have enough of the drug left to taper off of, then you will need to go to the doctor or a walk in clinic (wherever you can make it) and have a script written that will allow you to have enough to safely taper off. In some cases if you have a good relationship or have been a long standing patient with a medical clinic, then you can simply call and have them call you in some additional pills to the pharmacy. Good Luck."

How long will it take for sexual side effects to subside after discontinuing Lexapro (Escitalopram)? I have been taking 10 mg of Lexapro (Escitalopram) daily for less than two weeks. I consulted my doctor and we decided that I would stop taking the drug, mainly due to sexual side effects. How long do you think it will take for my libido to return to normal? I would also like to add that I am male.

shekillsangels replied: "It took about two weeks for that side effect to subside when I lowered my dose of lexapro. I imagine it'd take a similar amount for you too."

Dr who replied: "just 2 weeks it should come back within a week or so, if not talk to your MD to help you out some."

How long will side effects last after quitting Lexapro? I took Lexapro 20mg for a few months, but just found out I am pregnant. So, of course I quit cold turkey. My head feels like it is swimming and I am dizzy most of the day. I know this is a normal side effect, but it is HORRIBLE since it is mixed with morning sickness! So, any idea how long it will last?

robert c replied: "i was on it for like 4 years and just stopped taking it lately i still have the dizziness and the swimming feeling its been over 4 weeks and im still feeling effects, i think you will be ok soon, due to the short time you were on it.i get that odd sensation like when you look at something than turn your head to fast to the side that time warpish thing but its fading a bit each day , hang in there you will be fine soon"

Paul A replied: "Wow - I really feel for you! I did that once, and the withdrawals are really very horrible!! If you just quit you have four to six weeks of withdrawals coming. The only good news is after a couple weeks or so, they'll get less in intensity and frequency. I hated the "brain zaps" the worse. I hope you did that with your doctor's knowledge."

Will lexapro keep me out of the military? I am thinking of joining the military but I am currently on Lexapro 10mg for anxeity and depression. I am also on Trazodone 50mg as a sleeping aid, I am wanting to know if this will hurt my chances of being in the military? I mainly take it for anxeity.

doglover replied: "If you have been diagnosed as a depressive by a doctor then it is highly possible that you will not be accepted in the military. Hopefully the medication you are taking will help your condition and if a doctor states that you are no longer a depressive then you will be OK."

Army Infantry Wife08 replied: "Im pretty sure you cant be on medications and join. You also have to be off of the medication for about a year before you can join. You cant take yourself off, you have to have a doctor prove you are fine without it. if ADD and ADHD is a DQ, I think depression is too. Ask a recruiter."

desertviking_00 replied: "Current or history of mood disorders including depression is disqualifying for entry into the armed forces. The source below is the medical standard."

azgreybeard replied: "yes it will keep you out sorry"

Will gas from lexapro eventually go away and if so, how long does it take? I have been having gas for the past 10 months due to anxiety at my job, and only at work. My primary doctor prescribed lexapro for me and it made my gas so much worse, I could see people behind me running out of the room, turning on fans, etc. After one week, I stopped lexapro. However, my gas just keeps getting worse, so I went back to her. I told her that the lexapro made my gas worse, but she assured me that after 6-8 weeks, the gas will get better. Will the worse gas go away?

Paula P replied: "Gas is not a common occurrence with Lexapro. It can cause nausea or discomfort in some people so it could be your problem. However, have you talked to your doctor about other possibilities that may be contributing to your gas problem? Many anxiety disorders may contribute to your problem and while you may not be taking Lexapro for a general anxiety disorder, there are many co-morbid disorders that sometimes occur with depression that could cause your problem. Your gas could be caused by something very simple as in something that you eat frequently that may be causing the gas. Keep a food log for several weeks and see if you can spot a correlation between your worst gas and your dietary habits. Keep in touch with your doctor and don't stop the Lexapro! Suddenly stopping an antidepressant can make your next bout with depression worse and may make it harder for your doctor to find an antidepressant that does work."

How long will it take to get my sex drive back to normal after I stop taking lexapro? I am quitting lexapro tomorrow, and I was wondering how long it will be until my normal sex drive is back. -10 mg. -On it for one year. -Not cold turkey, weened. -On it for depression. -10 mg. -On it for one year. -Not cold turkey, weened. -On it for depression.

Turd Ferguson replied: "have sex with your partner and find out."

Kenneth C replied: "how long have you been taking it? and for what reason? usually the sex drive returns after a few weeks, there are other meds like wellbrutian that generally dont have this effect"

Alayna replied: "I don't know.....it's hard to quit lexapro. Are you quitting cold turkey? Good luck!! How many mg a day?"

sha_lyn68 replied: "DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK BY Bkjbkbjk P It is a virus"

Jen B replied: "The first thing you need to do is figure out why your sex drive is low and try to help get it back. I was in your situation and it's not fun without being horny and feeling in the mood when needed. I also felt like my orgasms (if I would even get one) were really weak. Probably because of my sex drive. However, I tried exercising and dieting but nothing seemed to be working. I thought I was screwed. I then found something just as amazing as the vibrator. My friend at work told me about this stuff she took to raise her sex drive. It was a natural herbal supplement and was I lucky to of found it. Theres no side effects and the sex drive is just tremendous along with orgasms that are blasting. The stuff is called Hersolution pills. At the time I saved money on them at herenhancement.com What I did was tried out for 3 months and that was really it. I found taking them every other day or so was the best to stretch it out. After the months were up, I was back to normal with a beating sex drive and my orgasm strength in increased so much. Well good luck and I hope this helps."

how long will lexapro withdrawal symptoms last? i have been on lexapro 5 mg (for my social anxiety) since the last 6 months.. now i am planning to slowly stop the drug.. how long will my withdrawal symptoms last and what will the symptoms be.. ?

Paul A replied: "It's pretty easy to wean yourself off the Lexapro, so you don't have to experience the severe withdrawal problems with it - if you just stop "cold turkey" the withdrawals are not fun. Here's an easy way to do it... 5 mg is the smallest dose of Lexapro they make, but it's still strong enough to cause withdrawal symptoms. Take the 5 mg pills and cut them in half (use a pill cutter for that) and take the half-pills for a couple weeks, then take the half-pills every other day for a couple weeks, then you can stop. This will slowly remove the Lexapro from your system, and help eliminate the possibility of withdrawal problems. If you want to, you could take the half pills every third day for a week or so, as an extra step. Best of Luck to you :-) Paul."

Does anyone know if there is a generic form of Lexapro or when there will be? I am on Lexapro for anxiety and it is the only medication that has worked for me. The prescriptions are SO expensive but I don't think there is a generic form of it. Don't most medications come up with a generic form? If so does anyone know if or when lexapro will?

fiVe replied: "The only article about the Lexapro patent I could find mentioned the year 2009 as the year it expires. When a drug company creates a drug it holds the patent to that compound for a certain amount of time. After that time it is permissible for other companies to make the generic."

confused1 replied: "No generic as I know of, my son takes it"

GoBuckeyes! replied: "Yes, its called "Celexa". I was looking for an alternative to Lexapro also and thats what my doctor recommended. Good luck."

bob s replied: "Escitalopram is the actual chemical name and the generic but it currently is not available in the USA due to patent laws. Many countries produce it and sell it and it can be obtained from overseas or mexico"

Will Lexapro or Trazodone keep me out of the military? I am thinking of joining the military but I am currently on Lexapro 10mg for anxiety. I am also on Trazodone 50mg as a sleeping aid, I am wanting to know if this will hurt my chances of being in the military?

Geoffrey L replied: "No as long as they are prescribed and you are stable on them. Usually 60 days or 6 month's I am not sure which. Until you are stable on them you will not be able to carry a weapon other so this fact may cause you to be delayed into basic or if you are in non-deployable. I tried both of these and man I could not do it. All I take now is Lunesta! Lexapro kicked my ass and Trazodone did not help me sleep! So good on you if they help. People will tell you getting help in the military will hurt. This is not true just get help! Also you do not need to tell anyone except your doctor what is going on once in the military. Your drill instructors will need to know but a lack of sleep is part of basic so good luck! Email me if you have any questions!"

Billy11B replied: "Yes it will per AR 40-501: Standards of Medical Fitness, para. 2-27. You need to be off of medications for one year and have a doctors statement indication you are stable without medication. My two cents - if you have anxiety issues now the military will not help to improve the problem and will more than likely make it worse. We operate in a pretty high stress environment."

Eva W replied: "It will if you are honest about it. And I suggest that you be honest about it."
