How long do the side effects of Wellbutrin last? I have been taking 75mg of Wellbutrin for a week. I am already feeling some positive effects but today I have been trembling quite a bit. Trembling is not on the side effects sheet my pharmacist gave me. Is this a common side effect? How long on average do the side effects last?

Erryn B replied: "Don't be afraid to go back to the pharmacist or call to get a consult. Just because a side effect isn't listed, does not mean it can't happen. Length of time of side effects varies from person to person. I was nauseous on Wellbutrin and it lasted about a week. Another drug we tried gave me numb and tingling hands and feet and a month later there was still tingling - I went off the med. Also, don't be afraid to talk to your doctor. It may be that the dosage needs to be adjusted. If that doesn't work, there are lots of other meds out there. Finally, make sure you rule out other causes. Caffeine, dietary changes and stress could all cause trembling. A dairy (including foods and meds and any side effects) can help you and your doctor trace the source of the problem. I always throw in a suggestion of nontrarditional remedies. Meditation (there are lots of CDs you can buy to help) is great for so many issues and can help you feel more in control. It probably won't eliminate the side effect, but it will can give you greater inner peace. Seek out help. Your doctor and pharmacist are your best allies. Good luck!"

Criterias replied: "I take 100mg twice daily, I've been taking successfully it for almost a year now. I have personally experienced trembling/the shakes. I asked my doc about this right away, and she has assured me that it is a side effect that should light off - & go away. Sometimes I do still feel shaky - but it's been the only thing that's helped me thus far and I feel that feeling better on daily basis out weighs the shakes/trembling. I also take xanax daily - that could make me more relaxed and subside the full effect of the trembling that most people experience. Hang in there, the first couple weeks can be VERY tough. I almost stopped taking it 4 or 5 times within the first 3 weeks of taking it, I had to be told over and over that it takes time to work/kick in. What are the long term side effects of taking Bupropion sr or Wellbutrin sr? I am taking Wellbutrin and was wondering what the long term side effects of the drug can be.

Paul A replied: "I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all. I've been taking it for over 2 1/2 years, and there are no problems so far with it. I doubt there should be any worry with it."

Has anyone been on Wellbutrin and noticed side effects of dizziness and nasuea? How long does it last? I just upped my dose(recommende by doctor) just by 75 mg, but I have been dizzy and nauseous. If anyone else has experieced these side effects, how long until it goes away?

Vera Gabriele replied: "I am sure that differs from person to person.. maybe you won't have any side effects.. every side effect mentioned on the package of any medication.. are all the possible side effects that could affect a person.. as we are all different, everybody reacts to a drug differently.. which is also why one should never share medication also not when one has the same condition. maybe you are lucky and you only have mild side effects....or none.. some people never have side effects when on a medication.. like anti anxiety or antidepressant but they get very bad side effects when they start to cut down on the medication..... xxx This is what it says about the side effects... How long does it take to adjust to wellbutrin? are my side effects common? I have been on it for about 3 weeks and it gives me the sensation of being in a dream which makes me a bit uncomfortable and a bit panicky because it is surreal. is this normal and will it go away? i was on zoloft befor this and did well, but did not like the side effect (weigt gain, low sex drive) and switched to this. is there something i could take with it or instead to help me feel balanced like i did on the zoloft but without so much of the weight gain? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fran replied: "I never could get adjusted to it. It made me feel strange all of the time. I stopped it after three months and started taking Lexapro. Works wonders for me."

MissKathleen replied: "You can call your pharmacist and get the printout of all possible side effects of wellbutrin. I have not heard of that particular side effect - being in a dream. Personally, I would stop taking it. I take Wellbutrin 300 mg, Zoloft 200 mg and Ativan 2 mg with no side effects at all. All my symptoms of depression are in remission for 5 years now and Wellbutrin gives me lots of energy. You usually have to give a new medication at least 30 days to work into your system. But who wants to live in the Twilight Zone for a month? I would advise you to ask your doctor for a new medication and hopefully you won't have any bad side effects. Good Luck!"

How Long does wellbutrin XL take to counteract sexual side effects from Lowest dose of Luvox SSRI? I have been on it for 12 days and have seen barely any sexual changes.

gardensallday replied: "argh - I just typed you a long answer and mis-hit some keys on the keyboard & lost it. Here it goes again: wellbutrin never worked as an "antidote" for me. some other things to try: see if you can take your luvox at night AFTER sex so when you want sex, it is at the lowest level possible in your system. Another option - are "drug holidays" an option for you, with this drug? For some people, with some SSRI's (zoloft is one, I think) you can stop taking the drug for a couple days once in awhile to have sex. I was taking cymbalta, and you crash so bad on that drug, it isn't an option with that one. Another antidote drug is a stimulant like adderall - I tried generic amphetamine salts, which still didn't work to counteract the sexual side effects. So I did stop the cymbalta. But the amphetamine salts worked to help my very severe bipolar depression - it wasn't as good as the cymbalta, not even close, but I could still have sex. amphetamine salts are a known antidepressant, so you could look at that option if the sexual side effects are just too much to bear. I don't know if a doc will prescribe that to you for depression or not - my doc has been hearing me talking about blowing my brains out or hanging myself for 8 years in a row, then had to hear me sobbing and sobbing in her office how I couldn't have sex anymore and all these hospitalizations over the years- maybe she just wan't worried about the fact amphetamine salts are a controlled drug. Or maybe docs don't mind giving it out for depression - I just don't know. Good luck to you! I hope your depression gets better soon!"

How long for sexual side effects to last after stopping wellbutrin? I was on Paxil for about a year and had no sexual side effects. I switched to Wellbutrin but stopped "cold turkey" after almost 2 weeks of taking it because I could not live with the side effects. I was getting a light headed feeling, almost like i was about to pass out, when engaging in athletic activities like running and it would make me have to stop. I was weened off of Paxil while starting Wellbutrin about 3 weeks ago but I have not taken Wellbutrin in a little over a week. I am a 25 y/o Male. Since I have stopped taking Wellbutrin I have had a sexual side effect. The only way I can describe it is when I "come", I am almost powerless and feel like I am about to pass out. I have come very close to doing so also. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and I am freaking out. It totally ruins "the moment" also. Has anyone else had this side effect and if so, how long did it last after stopping Wellbutrin? PLEASE HELP

eric w replied: "The sexual side effects you describe are probably left over from the Paxil and have nothing to do with Wellbutrin. I was on the same medications, and have been on Wellbutrin for a couple of years. The Paxil did diminish my sexual abilities, but the Wellbutrin doesn't. The effects of the Paxil last for quite awhile, and vary from person to person. You weren't on the Wellbutrin long enough for it to have had any effect--Wellbutrin is supposed to be one of the antidepressants that doesn't have sexual side affects."
