Valsartan Diovan Facts in Questions
What specific birth defects can be caused by Valsartan (Diovan)? The package insert says it can cause birth defects but doesn't say what kind of defects. Does it cause heart problems? Does it cause something less severe? What medication can replace it if a wonam wants to have a child?

c_schumacker replied: ""There have been cases of reported oligohydramnios, fetal growth retardation, pulmonary hypoplasia, limb contractures, and calvarial hypoplasia in various combinations in association with maternal losartan, candesartan, valsartan, or telmisartan (all ARBs) treatment during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Stillbirth or neonatal death is frequent in these reports, and surviving infants may exhibit renal damage. These effects are probably related to extreme sensitivity of the fetus to the hypotensive action of these drugs." There are other anti-hypertensive agents that are commonly used during pregnancy. Hydralazine is a common one. I hope this helps. Good luck."

Can valsartan diovan & stamilo be taken together? I need someone who is well-versed in medications to answer this question. Thanks in advance.

shawno1971 replied: "call your doctor or pharmisist, dont take advice from here on something that could effect you health"

cardiophile replied: "You should not be combining medications by yourself. Diovan is the trade name of Valsartan. It should be Stamlo and not stamilo. Stamlo is amlodipine. Both are medications for high blood pressure, though there are some other uses as well."

Has anyone suffered from strange side effects after taking (Diovan) Valsartan for HBP. ? I'm keen to know please and would thank you kindly for your time. Dee you don't get any tingling hands fingers or toes with this drug then?

Dee L replied: "Nope - I have not had any side effects and have been taking this drug for 5 years.I take it with bendroflumethiazide to prevent fluid build up. I have to have regular blood tests and checks on my kidney and liver functions but so far all is ok. Took Atenalol before this for a while then became asthmatic due to an allergy to it."

What is the best Blood Pressure Medication.? What is the best blood pressure medication with the least side effects ? I have tried Linsinopril, Diovan (valsartan), Atenolol, Altace. They all bring my blood pressure down some, except for Diovan. It doesnt. The rest have similar side effects. Dizziness, incoherent, lack of energy. Thank you for your response. I am at risk of a stroke each day.

MARY S replied: "why don t you try vasotec?"

Tsunami replied: "well am sure that you are taking a asprin right? that is one way to do this and if you are with stroke problems then you are taking warfarin or cumidone can't spell it. well anyhow i think linsinopril is the easiest one and its generic and costs 4 bucks at walmart. or sams are you doing that? let me knwo take care."

hecla 1 replied: "There is no "best" medication...it varies from person to person, not the same thing works for everyone...Make sure you are making lifestyle changes as well, diet, exercise, no smoking. There are some supplements that may help but are no means a replacement for medication if your blood pressure is out of control.....calcium, magnesium, potassium...CoQ10, essential fatty acids, garlic, L-carnitine, selenium, and vitamin E.....search each + hypertension (high blood pressure).....all medications have some side effects when your body is adjusting to them, the ones you have listed are common and just kind of come with the terriority....you just have to decide if the health benefits (lower blood pressure) out weigh the side effects."

matthew replied: "Unfortunately, all those side effects are very common with most BP medicines. If your BP is at stroke level, the simple fact that the medicine is working causes the dizziness. A sudden drop in your BP to normal levels causes all those side effects. They will get better as your body adjusts to a lower BP. It may take as long as 2 weeks for this to happen though. You might try a very low dose of 1 of those that worked & wait a week or so to slowly increase the dose. That way your body can slowly adjust to gradual decreases in your BP. From a previous answer, Vasotec is in the same family as Altace & lisinopril so it may have the same side effects. It is a good inexpensive choice. The others you have taken are all good 1st line choices. They actually have some of the better side effect profiles compared with other BP medicines. Good luck."

dcrc93 replied: "try lowering healthy lose wt if needed no salt use dash exercise"

Terry S replied: "It depends, but the best one for you is the one your doctor prescribes for you. Different types of BP meds do different things in different ways. Why don't people just listen to their doctor? If you're not going to listen to him/her why waste their time and your money going to them? Terry"

versantly replied: "the one that you and your doctor choose for you."
