See the 1st 3 pages of section 2, at ezy build, below, or: DEPRESSION PAGE Z.22 TAPERING OFF DRUGS: DETAILED METHOD. A previous post follows, so you have a choice of plans to deal with ypur bipolar disorder: See bipolar disorder, at ezy build, below, in section 10, and take the quiz, if unsure, and if the results are positive, ensure you get an expert diagnosis from a mental health professional, not doctors, who are much better dealing with physical ailments, and don't diagnose complex disorders like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder often enough to develop any real expertise.
Bipolar disorder usually involves major mood swings, which occur without apparent cause, and often over many months, or a matter of years, rather than days, as with most people (unless rapid cycling). I'd take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements in the winter months, (or, as probably a better alternative to the 2 cod liver oil supplements: 1 teaspoonful of cod liver oil, with a little butter, to ensure its use; I take mine on sourdough rye bread, or toast, covered with fishpaste, and pepper, to mask the strong taste). Those people who receive adequate exposure to sunlight, daily, won't need the vitamin D from cod liver oil, but many people, particularly those in latitudes far from the equator, find this difficult, to achieve.
If you decide to use allopathy, (modern Western medicine) I recommend trying Lithium Carbonate, or Lithium Citrate. (regular tests are necessary, for these) before trying the other mood stabilisers, but if you aren't good at taking medications regularly, drinking adequate water, and keeping up your salt intake, something else, such as Lamictal, or Depakote, may suit you better. Check out "lithium" at, and and always research medications first, (read, and keep the labels/information sheets) so you will be aware of the risks, and on the lookout for side effects. (Personally, if I wasn't bipolar type 1, and didn't experience hallucinations, or serious delusional states, I know I'd first try the orthomolecular, and Omega 3 fish oil supplements, vitamins, minerals; a herbal remedy, and a mostly raw food diet, for several months. Note: St. John's wort, and also antidepressants, may cause mania, or hypomania, in people with bipolar disorder. I'd aso eat in accordance with my "nutritional type". Enter that term in the searchbar at
If not considerably improved, after a maximum of 6 months trial period, consult your primary mental health care provider: you may be one of those who need medications to prevent this serious disorder from worsening. If you have bipolar type 1, an antipsychotic medication may also be needed. Everyone should take the Omega 3 supplements, or preferably "krill oil" for its other health benefits: use the searchbar at . Some people refuse medication, using supplements, and a selective, mostly raw food diet (I do not recommended trying this, if bipolar 1, unless you aren't troubled by hallucinations, or delusional states).
Maintain the treatments for the depressive phase, in section 2, at: Some topics in section 10 include: treating bipolar disorder with supplements, vitamins, minerals, and herbal remedies (except for St. John's wort, which may cause mania, or hypomania). As with all medications, there are risks, and the possibility of side effects, which is why I inform people of the alternatives, to see if they can cope sufficiently well, without resorting to medications or, at least use less of them. Don't use medications and supplements together, without medical advice, except for Omega 3, which is safe, anytime. It is not unknown for those discontinuing medication, and trying the alternative treatments, (which are not quick to work) to lose their jobs, because of unacceptable behavio(u)r, so I'd start 1 week before vacation, and closely monitor the situation, and use medical advice."
Gefilte Girl replied: "Yes, I take Lamictal (almost same thing) and I'm totally brain dead if I forget my meds and I get a terrible headache too. Why are you quitting it? I would think it's worth it as long as you don't skip pills."
Bipolar, feeling unstable? I have Bipolar type 2. I have been taking Trileptal 300mg a day, as well as Prozac 20mg a day. This is not working out for me, I have been on it for a few months now, and it is just not working (the Trileptal). I called my doctor, and he said to discontinue the Trileptal. I want to get on Lamictal, I have heard it is a good drug, and that it is FDA approved to treat Bipolar, unlike the Trileptal. So, needless to say, he had me stop it today, and I am supposed to see him for evaluation on Wednesday of this week, but I am not sure I can wait until then. My mood swings are coming back, as well as horrible anxiety. I feel unstable, and I am not sure how I am going to feel in like an hour. I looked into being checked in to the psych hospital as a last resort, but what should I do? Should I try to wait it out, and hope my doctor puts me on Lamictal, or check myself into the psych unit and hope they can help me get stable? Advice on this would be helpful, thanks!

Ellie replied: "just try to do something that relaxes you. if there is anything that relaxes you..."
Dennyyoung replied: "I think that to broaden your options would be to go to the psych all the while waiting to see if you could take the lamictal. That why if you feel fearful of yourself them you would have a big security blanket because you would have basically full round treatment with the psych hospital and also (maybe) taking the lamictal."
Just started new meds, but not sure if they should be mixed? History: Seizure in 2003 - Symptoms right before included dizzy spell with "migraine aura" included followed by the seizure. Put on Trileptal for 5 years. Been off for over a year now.
I began getting my dizzy spells along with the "migraine aura" after the birth of my son in March 2009, and usually end up with a headache afterwards every few days.
Starting at the end of May I began taking Lexapro which was my only medication at the time. Now the dizzy spells recently began happening every day and the headaches are every few days or last a few days in a row.
Saw doctor today and was put back on Trileptal 300MG twice daily along with Verapamil once a day.
Question is: Did the Lexapro cause the increase in dizzy spells or could it bring back possibility of a seizure? And, are all these medications safe to mix considering Lexapro is for anxiety, Trileptal is for prevention of seizures, and the Verapamil is for prevention of the headaches/migraines.
Not sure if my doctors know if its safe to mix all these...I'm just nervous.

americanjumpingbean2013 replied: "I think that your doctors know better than anyone. Everyone has different ways of reacting to medicine combinations. Did you tell the doctors that you take other medicine as well? If so, did they seem concerned about it? Medicines that help generally with the same type of problems, are usual safe to combine, so in your case I think you'd be alright, but because I'm not a doctor, i really think that you should call up the clinic you go to, and ask the doctors. If you're nervous about combining them, than don't until you talk to a doctor. The doctors are there to help you, and are willing to help you with any question that you could possibly have. Good luck and I hope I helped. I hope everything works out!!"
