How do you think i'll react, switch from cymbalta to effexor tabs, anyone on that before? Tomrrow or thursday, i'll be switching from cymbalta 60mg to effexor. with cymbalta i have a twitch, and gained around 17 pounds. switching to effexor what do you think will happen? side effects? withdrawal? thanks

Hannah's Mum replied: "Effexor is VERY bad! I was on it and it made me become suicidal! It can also make manic episodes really bad! Id tell them to go pound salt if there going to change it on you the side effects are horrible!"

I've just been switched from Effexor to Cymbalta because I could not ejaculate while having sex ? Has anyone had similar problems?. I could be going for twenty minutes with my partner and still not ejaculate. This was while on Effexor. I'm just wondering has anyone had this problem remedied by going on Cymbalta ? Pele, your full of shit, No such website and your email is blocked, I wonder why

Just Wondering replied: "I had trouble ejaculating on effexor too."

Paul A replied: "I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all. A lot of people take Wellbutrin with their SSRI's and SNRI's - it helps to counteract some of the side effects some people get, such as drowsiness, weight gain, and the sexual side effects. You might add that to your Cymbalta - it really will help."

Are there withdrawals if I switch from Cymbalta to Effexor? Hi all, My doctor called in Effexor for me because the Cymbalta I'm taking just isn't working. I thought I would have to taper off Cymbalta and slowly increase Effexor to avoid really bad withdrawals. Has anyone done this before and can they tell me what I might expect? I know everyone is different and will have different withdrawals (or none) but I want a general idea. Please don't tell me to call my doctor as she is out of the office for the next 4 days because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks!

im1096too replied: "I don't know much about cymbalta, but I DO know that when I stopped taking effexor I suffered from major withdrawal symptons."

Paul A replied: "You really do not want to go to Effexor!! It is the WORST antidepressant to get off of - the withdrawals are beyond horrible. Some people have to be institutionalized to get off of it!! A lot of people have to keep taking it the rest of their lives. Do a Google search on "Effexor Withdrawal" and see what it says. Now, having said that, you might try something such as Celexa or Zoloft and see what that does. Best of luck to you :-) ."

I'm switching from effexor to cymbalta . Does anyone prefer Cymbalta over Effexor and will I have the freeze ? I hate the withdrawal effects of Effexor will there be any between the transition between Effexor to cymbalta . Like brain freezes , headaches and tiredness ?

g49joeybethl replied: "I switched from effexor to cymbalta too. I hated the withdrawels from effexor. If I forgot to take the med I would get dizzy. Cymbalta does not do that. I am doing better with the cymbalta."

just switched from effexor to cymbalta now I wanna go back to effexor? about two months ago I stopped effexor and started taking cymbalta ( because I didn't have a sex drive ) now I have gained so much weight. when I first started taking effexor I lost a ton! I think the effexor controlled my weight, I want to go back on it but I'm confused, do I just switch right over like the dr had me do last time? and do I start a low dose of effexor again and build back up?

knitsafghans replied: "You need to call your doctor and ask. Don't experiment before discussing with him/her."

tinafrawley06 replied: "Talk to your Doctor because he/she will know the best way to do it! You might have to tapper off the cymbalta and then build up the Effexor. You need to get the Rx from the Doctor anyway, so she what they say. Good Luck!"

cymru replied: "ask your doctor ,but its not wise to switch from one antidepressant to the other ,as they take time to get into your system .good luck"

Janet lw replied: "You have to start at a low dose and build up again. But don't do anything without the assistance of your Dr. Good luck. jw"

knittinmama replied: "Believe me, you don't want to just switch over. My husband went through a very rough patch trying a different antidepressant. He ended up back on his original med at a higher dosage and sees his Psyc on a regular basis just to make sure everything is going well."

craftgirl_2005 replied: "cymbalta is a whole different ball of wax, i about lost my mind coming off it. please, go to doc ! it works on 2 parts of your brain, instead of 1."

Alabama Girl replied: "You could take some of the ingredients out of the Cymbalta capsules in order to taper down and gradually go up on Effexor. More than likely your doctor is going to have NO more idea how to do it than you do. I'm sorry Cymbalta didn't work for you. I love it. Everyone's body is different."

I have been on cymbalta for 1 month but have to switch to Effexor because my insurance wont cover the cymbalta Has anyone else had this problem? the cymbalta has really helped me a lot. Yes, my doctor did appeal and it was denied.

michele replied: "Before you switch, I really encourage you to phone the insurance company yoursef AND have your doctor SPECIFICALLY REQUEST that cymbalta be added to the formulary of covered medications based on "medical necessity" (the term is important) and file an appeal on your behalf. Best of luck to you, ~M~"

bench replied: "i have never been on cymbalt, but i have been on effexor, and i thought it was great. it really helpedmy anxiety symptoms. i did have little trouble coming off them, but it resolved quickly. i work in the mental health field and my experience of effexor has always been successful. great resuots from it. hope it works for you, so give it good try!"

Dr. John R replied: "Hi, have you tried finding a different insurance. It is critical, that if the Cymbalta is working for you, you need to continue taking it."

Proud to be APBT replied: "You are allowed an additional appeal. I would try that. Effexor may help you as well. But if it doesn't then you can mount another appeal based on you tried it but it didn't help. I'm so sorry they are switching you. Sometimes doctors will give you enough samples to keep you going through the multiple appeal process."

Kris replied: "The good Dr above does not seem to understand that in America one just doesn't go insurance shopping. Insurance is provided by one's employer, one's college, or in some rare cases by one's religious group. Was your doctor's appeal in writing? I ask this question because a friend who can not take statins was prescribed Welchol for her cholesterol control. Anthem would not allow that prescription, and the Doctor appealed over the phone - another denial. When the doctor wrote a letter appealing the decision and explaining why only Welchol would work because my friend's liver had been compromised, the Welchol was allowed. BTW, Anthem originally charged a higher co-pay for the Welchol before the appeal was approved. Is your insurance actually denying the use or Cymbalta completely, or is it charging a higher co-pay. ""

Which is better - cymbalta or effexor? I recently switched from cymbalta to effexor for my depression. But now I seem to have real bad dreams that wear me out sleeping! I wake up like I have never slept. And my sister has to wake me up during the night because I am moaning or crying in my sleep. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

me replied: "effexor is a strong antideppressant equal in strength to the trycicilic drugs. I am on this. what dose are you on? i only take 75mg. talk to your doctor about this side effect.. it may not be a side effect at all. so do chat to him about it."

Phoenix replied: "none they are both unhealthy. try natural remedy. haven't you never heard of natural remedy my dear."

Gabe replied: "I too am switching to effexor today! keep me updated! On cymbalta it has stopped working for me. i am feeling way too fatigued again, sore, depressed, with all the horrible side effects! i even started having panic attacks again! ugh. Effexor is supposed to help with weight loss anxiety and depression, and is one if not the strongest out there. Please keep me updated!"

Do any anti-depressants NOT cause weight gain and is there a way to lose the weight gain from the meds? I'm switching from Effexor to Cymbalta, but I've gained so much weight from being on Effexor. Is there anyway to shed this?

cyanne2ak replied: "I guarantee the Effexor hasn't caused you to gain weight. Effexor causes ANOREXIA in most people who take it. I would bet your problem isn't clinical depression but a thyroid problem instead."

itsmeagain replied: "Years ago when I was on Wellbutrin I lost weight with it. So have other people. Not everyone does, but it can have that side effect for a lot of people."

Frankie replied: "I don't know; I, most of the time, always gained 10 lbs. the 1st wk. or 2 - when I'd go on Pamelor (a tricylic-type of antidepressant); I quit taking Pamelor lots of times due to gaining weight so fast! One time, yrs. ago a doc had me on Ludimol and Mellaril & i gained 25 lbs in ONE Mo! Talk about depressing! // I read in a book once---title I think was Dr. Atkins --probably Diet Revolution -- that persons who did NOT cheat on that diet & who were taking anti-depressants (tricyclic types I THINK) EITHER COULD NOT LOSE WEIGHT OR EITHER LOST VERY SLOWLY. --and that was the way it was in my case. /// I lost weight fast on the Atkins zero-carb diet; but I drank 64 oz. of water per da. --i think it was. I think that diet can be dangerous--especially if u don't drink enough Water while on it, possibly because u r body might be releasing toxic waste products ----OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT; & certain vitamins and minerals? -might need to be taken while on the Atkins' Diet. //THERE MAY BE DIFFERENT WAYS OF DOING THE ATKINS DIET.--4 instance-I went on 30 (grams?) of carb's once and another time, 60 gms & I lost weight fairly fast on 30 & on 60 gms. --but I lost weight the fastest when I went on the Zero-carb Atkins Diet. I think I was taking Pamelor the 1st time. My husband tried it but his heart beat too fast; not sure if he drank enough water. The Diet put me up Mentally--little need for sleep; after 1 wk.--you could then have just a little bit of Carb daily & then after 2 wks.- u could have even a little bit More of same --- & U checked your urine with Keto-sticks--which turned Purple--IF No cheating! (best wishes---you probably already knew about All THAT ? / u could have cheese & several good foods & bacon & steak & salads; at 1st All that was GOOD--but soon cheese did not even taste like Cheese to me, etc. etc. ; i always gained the weight back very Fast--upon stopping that Diet. //// I take Zyprexa, with 20 lbs weight gain; been back on it bout 3 yrs. /Haven't gained any more lately & have lost about 4 lbs. (Lost 10 when i stayed off it for 8 mo's! (that was bout 3 yrs ago). I DID NOT LOSE it quickly - but over THE 8- mo. period./// but Zyprexa causes me to sleep far too much; 12 to 18 hrs. daily much of the time & i take less than lots of persons do, it seems; 2.5 mg. daily; I was diagnosed with Bipolar---long ago."

Just Thinking replied: "I'm on Effexor have been for a year and am continuing to lose weight steadily. When on these types of meds you need to remain or become active, severely depressed people want to lay down and sleep, lay down and watch TV this of course puts weight on, you may not feel like exercising but a simple brick 1/2 walk will be good for you emotionally and physically, I make sure I walk 3 times a week, I usually go for an hour and I am losing 1 kg a week. Eat healthily and stay away from soft drink and high calorie juices. Water is best!"

kadel replied: "It's not just the pills, you are eating more and moving less because of depression. Exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. Go on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Eat fish, eggs, chicken, occasional lean beef or pork, low fat cottage cheese. Stay away from regular cheese, no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, beans (except green beans). No fruit and no fruit juice (it's sugar water, my dr says). Cut down on carrots and tomatoes (included ketchup). Use mustard instead of mayonnaise in recipes. Eat lots of salads, green vegetables. Salads only have one tablespoon of dressing for the whole salad. No ice cream, or other desserts. 8 glasses of water a day. No caffeine"

Anyone gain weight while on cymbalta, paxil, celexa, effexor, or prozac? Im tring to find the right one for me? My Dr. first started me on Celexa 40mg in two months I gained 8 pounds without changing my normal eating patterns...so then he switched me to Effexor this gave me night terrors and i felt hazy all day but lost weight then DR..switched to Prozac 40mg felt ok,still a bit depresses but calm and relaxed. 3lbs gain: after 2 month..dr switched to Cymbalta I really seen no change didnt feel it helped..still felt down and more gain4lbs but another now Paxil,,,calms me down to an extent but I don't need any more weight increases! Plus my mobility isn't the greatest so excercises are limited.. Any suggestions, personal stories would be appreciated im 21 started out at 138 now 159! :(

Gloria A replied: "I used to take some name something like northropolyne (sorry about the spelling, there were pretty good but I gain about 30 pounds. I was eating all the time, but after a while the doctor has to change it because he said that is not good for your heart. They gave Zoloff it make feel a little bit better, but I don't gain any wait. I lost 25 pounds."

SEN replied: "Paxil, I couldn't pee. I had to go the ER to pee. Effexor, I gained a little."

SlamAndBeyond replied: "Yessss! I've gained weight on Celexa (big time). Most antidepressants, especially SSRI's can cause weight gain. Tricyclic antidepressants are even worse. Although, Wellbutrin (bupropion) has actually been shown to help people lose weight. Hope this helps."

YA Junkie replied: "Hi: I know what you mean about weight gain. By looking at your meds, your primary diagnosis is clinical or major depression. Maybe you have a side order of anxiety. (Having these two problems together is fairly common.) I did lose a significant amount of weight (maybe 15 pounds) while taking 400 mg of wellbutrin SR. A whopping 28% of folks on this med lose weight. See the link below. Don't you feel sorry for people experiencing the side effect of weight loss :=) To a much smaller extent, zoloft can help some folks lose weight, as the other link describes. It could be worse. I attend a support group for people with depression, bipolar disorder, etc. Almost all of the mood stabilizers and antipsychotics used for bipolar can put on huge amounts of weight---over 50 pounds. I was briefly on an antipsychotic called seroquel and put on about 20 pounds in 2 months! Wellbutrin has a reputation of increasing the energy level of folks with depression. If you have that problem, that would be another reason to give wellbutrin a try. I suggest that you ask for wellbutrin SR or XL, not the immediate release wellbutrin. All my best."

what is better for anxiety? effexor or cymbalta? anyone taken both of these? I have been in constant panick recently I'm going insane, I just switched from efexxor to cymbalta in hopes that is will calm me down :( I"m even taking valium on top of that

onehelpfulgirl replied: "I had a bad experience with getting adjusted to Effexor I would try Cymbalta. Granted, I have never tried Cymbalta Have you tried Paxil before? Just a thought hon, good luck."

mr_ignorant replied: "antidepressants = AS SEEN ON TV scam drugs. don't try to trick yourself into thinking they work because they don't lol. stop letting your doctor take advantage of you and get on some type of benzo (klonopin, Ativan, etc...)) . Benzos have been around for years and deliver instant relief for a wide range of mental health disorders. If your doctor keeps you on antidepressants u will not experience relief and as a result you will have suicidal thoughts."

sharlaksmith replied: "I am a happy Effexor user...I take the maximum dose as well as Lexapro and Lamictal....the Lamictal was the icing on my cake....I could not drive, be around people or in any situation that might trigger my anxiety. I drive again...can go to the store at normal hours and am a functioning person again. Every body reacts to different medications in a different way. My Mom just started cymbalta after taking Prozac for 7 years...at this point she is extremely bitchy...I am really hoping it is a short term side effect. I have heard great things about cymbalta... You might want to discuss the Lamictal with your doc if you don't find success with the Cymbalta...it's a fine line we walk trying to find the correct meds for our issues...but once you hit it in the center you will shine like never before. Bless you and I hope that you feel better soon~And don't buy into nay sayers..."

tiptop replied: "the best anxiety tables are diazpam. Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety, nervousness, and tension associated with anxiety disorders. It is also used to treat certain types of seizure disorders and muscle spasms. be sure to take you doctors advise before you start the.medicine. i use to suffer from anxiety a long while back.time as cured me.so don't worry dear, you will over come it very soon."

Kat replied: "Everyone is different I was on Cymbalta about 5 months and felt great then I started having these anger attacks generally at my husband it was awful. What I was havin was a cymbalta crash and it led me to a breakdown. I went back on the Effexor XR and Xanax and all is better I have heard of people loving it and other stories like mine. Good Luck"

Tabatha replied: "I found Prozac excellent for reducing anxiety, though I have heard Effexor is good for this too. You could also ask about Citalopram/Celexa. I know somebody who is on Cymbalta and he feels good, but he's taking it for depression rather than anxiety."

mark f replied: "Diazepam (valium) is a benzodiazepine drug and therefore is highly addictive and withdrawal symptoms can be severe. They stop working within 4 months. The only benefit of continued use is suppression of withdrawal symptoms which can sometimes resemble the origional symptoms (anxiety panic) but are often more severe. Anxiety and panic attacks can be an adverse or withdrawal reaction to effexor or cymbalta. Antidepressants are well known for causing mania, anxiety and the like."
