I want to detox off all pain meds, I have fibromyalgia and want to go a different route out side of pain meds? I've been on meds(vicodin, demerol, soma) and I hate to take the pain meds, I don't like what it does to me mentally, I wan to try other means, maybe holistically. I want to detox myself off of the meds, instead of going in the hospital. Any suggestions?

Glenda M replied: "NO Need for a hospital. Just call your doctor and ask to be assisted."

Hi! replied: "my mom has that and she does all natural meds..she has prescriptions because some she needs for other problems she has but natural meds seem to help her a lot. i would go to a hollistic doctor first before you get off your meds. they will do tests and im sure itll help you a lot!"

J M replied: "Talk to your doctor. You need to come off of meds like that slowly. Do your research on other methods first and come up with a schedule."

JUDY H replied: "I've taken the pain meds for my fibromyalgia and I hated the side effects, too. However, you may learn that after you have weaned yourself off them the pain is even worse than before. That is because some of these pain meds actually can cause more pain. It will be difficult but totally worth it to get any opioid type drugs out of your system. Just do it gradually and replace as you go with non opioid pain relievers. Then after you have weaned yourself off them, I'd recommend try Low Dose Naltrexone. I have been on it for over six months now and I feel much better. It is a drug but it has very minimal side effects that usually only last for the first week if at all. There was a recent trial at Stanford University in fibromyalgia patients using this drug that showed 7 out of ten showed marked improvement in their symptoms. Here is the url for a youtube video about it:"

i have 2 painful lumps on each side of my lower spine i tried soma but not working neither is pain meds? i didnt injure myself but i do have uterine fibroids. this is the most painful thing to go through the doc gives me muscle relaxers and ultram for pain but when i go to bed i wake up in agony

tennistar806 replied: "stretch, rest and tell your doctor about it . =]"

Cinda S replied: "go back to your doctor and tell him this isn't helping.insist on seeing a specialist in this area. perhaps your doc is missing something.don't waste any time doing this , it's your health we are talking about. better safe than sorry."

I was called by employer re: urine drug screen current meds lortab, soma, talwin-nx, lyrica, pos for darvocet? how?

kountrygrl replied: "If you failed the drug test thats why they called. Most places have you list your medications prior to the drug test. As long as you can provide a current RX for the meds you should be fine."

Has anyone had experience with Soma plus Aspirin and codeine and Darvacet or ultram at the same time? I have been in pain for quite a long time. I am going to a Rheumatoligist a few times a month and getting numerous testing done. So far the only thing he has found is that I have a Vitamin D deficiency. I am currently taking Soma plus Aspirin and Codeine and Darvocet. I have been switched to extended release Ultram but have not gotten the script filled yet. The Soma and Darvocet used to work at keeping my pain away but I am now being awakened by it so thats why the switch to the extended release Ultram. I just wanted to know if anyone has taken this combo of meds for long periods of time and if they are now experiencing adverse effects of doing so. I don't want to have to take these meds but so far they are the only ones that don't make my symptoms worse so I really have no choice and I am afraid of the long term effects. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Oh and if it helps, I only take them at night before bed, I can't take the meds while at work. I have had three different doctors plus my pharmacist tell me its ok to take these meds together. The amount of pain that I am in by the end of the day is terrible. I am asleep so I don't get a high off of them and I don't take them during the day. A small part of the pain that I have is stabbing pains in my legs, arms, bottoms of my feet, in my ears and on top of my head. I also have other symptoms but tjis is the worst. There are no other medications that take this pain away enough for me to sleep. I have had to choose the lesser of two evils and take these medications. If I don't take these meds I do not sleep at all. I am just worried about the long term effects of these meds. Also if anyone knows of any other treatments for this severe kind of pain. I would love to stop taking them...but thats not possible until a different treatment is found.

Tattoodmary replied: "if you take anything for a extended period of time you become immune to it and it takes more of the pills in a higer dosage to make it work. Switch to something else. and it cant be healthy to take that many pain pills mixed together."

lois d replied: "read labels one i do know aspirin will deafen ears you must be flying high on all those pin med does your doctor not tell you do not mix them those things are not good mixed best tell your doctor or find a new one."

pickles replied: "I was on all kinds of stuff after a severe ankle operation. You need to go to a pain manager they are great with combining drugs so they interact with each other if you were in chicago i could tell u who to see"

nursekuba replied: "Darvocet doesn't do much, generally speaking, and Ultram is only a little better. Do they know what is wrong with you? I agree with going to see a pain specialist for pain management help."

paulm3399 replied: "Go to and buy some generic fiorecet.Paul"

Has anyone ever taken the muscle relaxant, Soma? I just got a script for Soma due to low back pain. I've been hearing from people that it's a very strong drug and I'm not a fan of taking meds. I'm kinda apprehensive to take it. Any experiences with Soma? I believe I have the lowest dose.

Sheri F replied: "If your not used to taking meds I would tell you not to plan on doing anything after you take it you will sleep and feel tired the rest of the day but if that's what it takes is rest to get your back better than there is no problem. If your really worried and live alone make sure someone calls you every couple of hours to check on you."

Severe Clear replied: "Soma (Carisoprodol) is considered a quite strong skeletal muscle relaxant. It's side-effects are minimal, more likely to those who are Soma-tolerant. When using medications such as this one, take caution when doing things such as driving or working with anything dangerous (machinery, electronics etc.). Soma is bound to make you tired and possibly sluggish. It does indeed help with low back pain. I suffer from the same thing - one surgery down, one to go. It's a viscious circle...but we're not talking about me ;-) If you're in pain, take the meds. Your doc prescribed it to you after receiving a medical work-up and history and made the decision to put you on Soma. He weighed the risks versus the benefits and made the decision he did. I hope you feel better. PS: I've been on Soma for the past two years. It'll help atleast somewhat. S.C."

having trouble getting pain meds from my doc what should i do.? I was in a motorcycle accident 3 years ago and messed myself up pretty bab. my body always hurts and its like my joints are getting worse cracking and popping. just wondering if anyone could help to point me in the right direction. when i take pain meds i feel fine. my doc gave me 350 soma, that like giving a fat kid a tic tac for dinner.

Aveeno12 replied: "Try the ER? But you might look like a junkie..."

amg7613 replied: "If you are having pain, you need something to control it. If the medication the doctor gave you doesn't work, go back, and if he/she won't prescribe it...seek a second opinion. Be upfront and honest, and make sure they are listening. There is a difference between abusing pain medications and needing pain relief to get through your day...there are docs out there that specialize in pain management, it may be worth looking into."

proper girl in the hat replied: "go to a different doctor. mine always hooks me up with their little sample packets the drug reps give them. sounds like someones being mistreated..."

luzerlarry1 replied: "350 soma ought to last you awhile, besides i thought soma was suppose to relax you, and not used for pain. Turn em back in for vicodin."

algaemaster replied: "You need to be very careful. you are flirting with addiction and drug seeking behavior. If Soma's aren't cutting it for you then your tolerance is pretty high. Soma is one of the most abused muscle relaxers around. With the injury being 3 years old it is time to look at pain management. Responsible pain management. Not just a guy who is a candyman. You need to be slowly weened off of these type meds. Good luck."

Kelle replied: "He's worried about your addiction to pain meds. Any good pain meds are addictive . Some people buy them illegally when the Dr. shuts them down. They end up getting "bad' stuff, overdosing , being robbed, assaulted, charged and/or ending up in jail. I see them every day where i work. Have you considered a pain management clinic? No use going to the ER. or walk -in-clinic .They see this everyday and won't give out narcotics."

banjoman replied: "If you are still in pain after three years, something else is going on here. You doctor probably thinks you're addicted to the pain meds. (is he right?) Try going to an orthopedist and get the problem treated at the root. Or try acupuncture or chiropractic. Instead of covering up the problem with meds, get the basic problem treated."

Bellakitty replied: "Marijuana will stop your pain dead in its tracks. Stay with me here. My husband has two blown discs in his lower back (close to the coccyx) and he has tried Tylenol w/ codeine, vicodin, morphine, amongst therapy treatments such as seeing a chiropractor and using a tens device. The only thing and I'm dead serious when I say the ONLY thing that stops the pain completely is medical marijuana. We are lucky to live in California so we have access to the medical marijuana under prop. 215 and 420 (funny I know...). If you are concerned about your lungs or the smell it doesn't have to be smoked, it can be ingested or applied topically as well. Our local dispensary (yes, a store where a legal patient can walk in and purchase marijuana) carries lots of pastries, ice cream, beef jerky, capsules, tea, candy, and butter/cooking oil that all contain THC (the active ingredient in marijuana). They also have a salve which is cocoa butter mixed with tons of marijuana which can be rubbed on the skin and will allow the THC to be absorbed through the blood stream. This is good on exceptionally bad days when your muscles are super tense. I'm not sure what state you are in or what the laws are but I sure hope that you have safe access and are able to medicate with marijuana if you choose to. Good luck and stay pain free!!"

SOMA:need info on this drug that i will understand? my doc added soma today to my meds for my back pain (ultram&naproxen) I read the leaflet and am confused addicting or not ?produces a high or not ? it even warned abour rare drug seeking behavior can some one clear this up for me ?

nick hinck replied: "ya carisprdol i beleive is the technical term, basically its your everyday muscle relaxer, yes you can get high off of it yes you can get addicted to it, but as long as you take the right ammount you should be fine"

What meds should i not mix with adderol? i already take toprol (regularly), darvocet, lortab, soma, parafon forte (when needed, i realize thats alot of meds, i can explain)....will any of these harm me if mizxed with adderol....i need someone medically certified to answer, obviously

Steelr replied: "Adderol is ok to take with these meds but dont take any antacids with it. BTW I am a certified EMT and currently going to school for my Phamacutical Degree."

Forock replied: "well buddy, all of the drugs you're taking are pain killers/muscle relaxers, basically downers. no harm will come from mixing them with adderol, but you will not get the desired effect of adderol if you're on downers."

Newt 3 replied: "All your prn (as needed) doses are medications that will make you sleepy(downers). versus the adderall, an amphetamine(upper). Talk about confusing your bodies nervous system. Also I see you are taking toprol, I am assuming for high blood pressure. It is contraindicated for use with heart disease, and high blood pressure. There are side effects to taking adderall, loss of appetite, insomnia, dry mouth, headache, aggression, mania, blurred vision, could also make your heat race, palpitations."

htarsmj replied: "Please make sure that no matter what answer(s) you choose to follow that you call your pharmacy to ask their advice. They know very well what you should and should not take together. (just because you can never really be sure of people's credentials on this site)."

Pain!!! What other meds and does anyone know of a good pain doctor in Macon/Warner Robins, GA? Up until my pregnancy I didn't use medicine; I was diagnosed with depression and put on so many meds as a child that as an adult I refused to take any. However, I started getting strange rashes first (later diagnosed as erythema multiforme), then after delivery began having muscle pains. After taking Depo-provera I began having bad spasms (myoclonic seizures) and debilitating pain (fibromyalgia). I doctor hopped trying to find adequate pain relief and nothing seemed to work. I've had fentanyl (which triggered the rashes), Soma, Flexeril, Ultram, Lortab, Vicodin, Percodan, Oxycodone, you name it. I'd get Demerol shots on a walk-in basis because my flare-ups would have me crying. I'm back in Georgia and on Ultram and it's not helping but I'm too scared to say anything because every time I spoke up I'd end up with ineffective medication. I used Vicodin successfully; it didn't have any horrible side effects and worked really well. The only problem is I don't want to destroy my liver. Help!

hillbilleechick replied: "i have the same thing you do, allong with degenerative disk disease, and sciatica, which you know fibromyalgia, is hard enough, but with sciatica it feels like i have charlie horses in my legs allll the time. and they just stop working. i took everything there is to take. the only thing that works for me is methadone. and i thought it wasnt going to work at first. because i thought it wasnt even a pain pill right? well i was wrong. i only have to take ten mg a day. and i have taken this for almost 5 years now. and it works allll day, even the next morning, it isnt as bad. i seriously wouldnt be able to live without this medication. and best of all. its concidered a long term use, it dosent hurt your liver, and its the cheapest med. there is. if i were you i would ask about it. its helped me more than anything i have ever taken. if you have a myspace or anything and ever need to chat, holler at me. i joined a fibro. group on there thats really great. for when we have those shitty days you know? holler at me later. let me know ifyou need to know anything else. here is my myspace too."

midi_junkie replied: "can you elaborate please?"
