About Prozac Symptoms in Q&A
What are Vicodin effects, and Prozac withdrawl symptoms? I want to take Vicodin during school. I AM on prozac legally. I have depression. But I'm tired of prozac and want to get off would there be any withdrawl symptoms? What are the effects of Vicodin? What happens? I have done weed before so i kind of know but not really.. ANYTHING would be great. Thanks in advance!

Common Sense replied: "Vicodin is Hydrocodone & Tylenol.. Hydrocodone is Codeine / An opiate.. Mild withdrawals.. Not bad.. Most dangerous part of the Vicodin is the Tylenol."

John S replied: "hi you can find that info at please be careful"

What are some of the prozac withdrawal symptoms? I have been off prozac for 2 weeks now and i was wondering whether how im feeling right now is normal. its not that i am depressed all over again, i am just always in my comfort zone. I dont seem to want to try new things or meet new people. for example, instead of meeting new people, i just hang out with my roomates all the time. meeting other people seems like a chore. There are some positive effects ive noticed like i have more energy compared to before, I have been able to self talk myself out of any negative thoughts (i had been reading a book on positive self-talk while i was on prozac so i could counter negative self talk when i got off the meds). i need to know what more can i expect and for how long. and how do i get out of my comfort zone and meet people. !

bob shark replied: "Did the doctor say for you to stop the Prozac...That is the most important question...If Not, TALK TO HIM, you could be endangering yourself !!! If that is not the case, Stop trying to analyze youself to death, you will be with your room-mates because you are comfortable being around them, when you meety someone interesting on the outside of this circle of friends, you will decide if you want to start a friendship, but you sure as heck don't need to go out and make friends with the whole world. Try to focus and accepting yourself for the person you really are, YOU ARE IMPORTANT. and you don't have to prove it to anyone. Live live as It should be lived, Life is wonderfull, Enjoy the sun, the sky, the animals and birds, the flowers and the people you can call friends. Life is as good as you make it fore yourself...BELIEVE. and you will see."

Should I go to ER with prozac withdrawal symptoms? I no longer have a psychiatrist, and I quit taking the prozac 40 mg 3 days ago. I feel lightheaded, nauseated, and flu like. Or should I wait it out or call the internist tomorrow?

photogirl replied: "If you feel that you might hurt yourself, please go to the emergency room. If the symptoms you are experiencing continue to be your only symptoms, you should be able to wait it out. I am not a doctor."

buzzgt_1987 replied: "Yes! Go to the ER! I quit taking Zoloft cold-turkey and was sicker than I had ever been - That type of medication is meant to be constantly in your bloodstream and withdrawl is really bad. If you are taking it for emotional/depression reasons then you need to get back on track. Many people stop their medication and feel so out of it and bad that it's easy to give into bad thoughts...Please go back to the doctor anyway - It's really bad to stop taking a prescibed medication! Hope you feel better soon!"

DG replied: "You'll be ok until tomorrow. Prozac is one of the easier ones to come off of. But watch yourself everyone is different. You really should have weened off of it."

R W replied: "You still have it in your system and it may take from 2 wks to 30 days to fully get it out of your system. Doctors sometimes have counteracting medicines that can lessen your symptoms. An herbalist would tell you to detox yourself but if you don't believe in that then yes go see if the doctor has something to lessen your symptoms. Good luck."

addicted to piercings replied: "there's no need to go to the ER with prozac withdrawal symptoms. are you doing this under the supervison of your family doctor and/or psychiatrist? if not, please see a doctor asap. you need to be gradually tapered off any anti-depressant. to suddenly stop (cold turkey) taking any anti-depressant is apt to cause severe emotional rebound, seizures, shaking, tremors, lightheadedness, etc. unless your doctor directed this sudden elimination of prozac from your medicine routine----GO BACK ON IT IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT BEGIN THE PROCESS AGAIN, WITHOUT PROPERLY NOTFIYING YOUR DOCTOR SO HE/SHE CAN MONITOR YOUR WITHDRAWAL. IT'S THE ONLY SAFE WAY. i know this from personal experience w/the drug----paxil."

one hot mamma replied: "if the symptoms get worse then you should go to the ER. you need to get back on something."

Has anyone had flu like symptoms from prozac? My husband started taking prozac and he was doing fine then he ran out and didn't take them for like 3 days he started taking them again and he is haveing flu like symtoms and headaches and stomach cramps. Has anyone else had any similar expirences. He is going to stop taking it, how long does it take to get out of your system.

Super Radical replied: "From experience, it seems like it comes out of your system pretty fast, but takes about 2 weeks to get fully effective again. I've never had any symptoms like that from missing pills, ask his doctor."

Bea l replied: "no i havent but i did notice it did decrease my appetite at times"

Mina replied: "Prozac can cause: headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido. Most everything but the weight gain and loss of libido usually goes away within a couple of weeks. With Prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride) it's a coin toss as to losing or gaining weight. Sometimes it will just kill your appetite. (Remember, it CAN cause these things, it's not guaranteed.) Do not let your husband go off of his meds without a doctor's help. He will go through SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome which could be causing those effects that you're talking about. He should absolutely not stop taking it. You can read up on SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome in my source link."

tennis.player replied: "I did not get these symptoms while on prozac or when I stopped taking it, but everyone's different. It can stay in your system for at least a few weeks."

what are the withdrawal symptoms from prozac? i am coming off prozac and have cut down from 40mg daily to 20mg every other day and just wanted some idea of what to expect?

Miss H replied: "Seeing as you are weaning yourself off very gradually you should have very few, even no side effects at all. Many people expereince dizzyness, sleepiness or insomnia, palpatations, headaches and neausea... but this is very rare and only lasts a few days."

earth_chylde2002 replied: "Prozac Withdrawal Symptoms Certain Prozac withdrawal symptoms can include, but are not limited to: Irritability Agitation Dizziness Burning or tingling sensation Anxiety Confusion Headache Insomnia Tiredness. In most people, these Prozac withdrawal symptoms improve with time, without the need for any treatment. In fact, Prozac is probably less likely to cause withdrawal symptoms than other SSRI antidepressants because it stays in your system for so long. Even if you stop taking Prozac quickly, the level of Prozac will slowly decrease in your body over time. Limiting Prozac Withdrawal If you are going to be taken off of Prozac, your healthcare provider may wean you off slowly to minimize the chances of developing Prozac withdrawal symptoms, although this may not be necessary. Sometimes, withdrawal symptoms are actually symptoms of depression returning. In this case, your healthcare provider may decide to put you back on an antidepressant medication."

olympics junkie replied: "When I was tapered off, all went well until about 3 weeks into the taper, when suddenly all the color was gone from the world, which was the reason I started on Prozac originally. In other words as the level of med in my brain dropped, the depression took over again. I expect to be on the drug indefinitely.."

aneurodoc125 replied: "Some people experience auditory hallucinations- people calling their name, etc."

honourableone replied: "You shouldnt be that bad if you are weening yourself off, but many people find withdrawal symptoms worse than that for heroin. There is a unique thing where people have a spasm in their head that feels like an electric shock, and it is supposed to be one of the worst feelings ever. SSRIs are really evil drugs."

Gard23 replied: "Here is a list of withdrawal symptoms (link below) by Glenmullen. Due to the longer half-life of Prozac, the onset of withdrawal is usually seen about 2-3 weeks after a dose drop - although some 14% showed symptoms after a few days. It is particularly important with Prozac to be aware of the differences between withdrawal and the return of the 'original problem' - the other SSRI antidepressants have shorter half-lives and a swifter onset of withdrawal, but Prozac's later withdrawal onset means it is possible to have standard Prozac withdrawal misinterpreted as the 'original problem' due to the time lag between a dose drop and the start of the withdrawal symptoms for that drop. This phenomenon is known and described, the Prozac 'Catch-22'. Anxiety and depression are among the most common withdrawal symptoms, so it helps to be aware of this. More info on withdrawal symptoms in David Healy's 'Halting SSRIs' (below). There is no clear idea of what to expect; experiences run from no apparant withdrawal, up to opposite end of the scale. Glenmullen's list will give you a good idea of what severe withdrawal encompasses. With a 75% drop in dose, consider asking those about you to monitor your behavior over the coming weeks, they should be alert for mood swings, energy bursts and possible manic-type reactions - you may not be aware of them, many aren't, and they seem (anecdotally) to be followed by a 'crash'. Headaches and nausea, dizziness and sleep pattern changes might be considered some of the most likely medical withdrawal symptoms that people encounter in withdrawal."

How long does it take for withdrawal symptoms to occur after stopping prozac? I was on 20 mg prozac 1 x a day. I stopped 10 days ago and have had no side effects. Except about 24 hours ago I started having itchy feeling on my skin. So much so i am not able to sleep at night. I do not know if this is a side effect. Help me please. Sleepless and itchy in Portland

Amin K replied: "You need to get in touch with your doctor as soon as possible to find out if you are having a reaction to the drug which may still be in your system. Don't waste any time as this could be something very serious and could progress even further. If unable to reach your doctor go immediately to the emergency room. If this is a side effect of removing yourself from Prozac it needs to be taken care of."

Ahorn replied: "I hope you never take it again. Good luck. It's told by psychiatrists, psychologists and people who worked for pharmaceutical companies. It informs you - beside other things - about side effects that are not often being told by psychiatrists. It also suggests an alternative in the end. When you then make a decision to take antidepressants, you may be better prepared, educated and understand what's going on when you encounter some bad side effects. I would say that these information are actually vital. is it possible for prozac to cause symptoms of manic depression? also do you have any personal experiences of bi polar and what you feel? thank you

Sammi replied: "yes. If someone suffers from bi-polar disorder and they take antidepressants alone without a mood stabiliser or anti psychotic then it can cause the person to suffer from a manic episode. Sorry i don't have personal experience of this."

HUMANBEING replied: "only if you ride real roller coasters or ferris wheels or fly in airplanes or your mom drove a car while pregnant with you or you drive a car or if you are a girl pms.. or if you watch tv all day or listen to music all day.. ie other words dont get hung up on pschiatric terms.. or pschiatry thats called judging people... unless your brain was scuplted out of stone.. you are probably normal for you... moods are here to stay...we learned that the worlds too power ful for us teeny beings so its not really manic depression its just you.."

555 replied: "Yeah i was on that, and i had lots of manic episodes, i was on it for severe depression, and anxiety. Never take mood stablizers with anti depressants, or anti psycotics, they ave drastic outcomes, make manics worse. Bipolar isnt nice, the highs can be, they make you feel great, but when that goes, and you become depressed, you feel the worst ever, you feel so low that you dont want to move, dont want to live, dont want to eat, feel aything u just hate ytourself, its the most worst thing i ever feel, when your high you are so energetic and hype, ytou do stupid things, and dangrous things, and dont think there is anything rong with it, well i dont anywa, untill you become low and realise what you have done when your hyper, and feel like an idiot. yeah so its not nice thing."

Sylvia F replied: "Firstly to answer you question: No not "manic depression". I have never suffered, as far as I know from Manic Depression.. As for your question, as far as I am aware, I have never thought of Prozac of causing those symptoms. What I am absolutely, comprehensively aware of, is the fact that Prozac was well know, and would assume still is, if given without proper care and insight, can cause and exasperate suicidal ideation..... As for causing symptoms of manic depression (or the now popular Fraze) Bipolar.. Yes, I have some experience of someone suffering from "bi-polar" manic depression... We met at college, did 2/3 courses together. Became friends for a while... Probably would still be close now if not what happened in my life. I gave up all and everything.. Just lose... Back to your question, I would say No Prozac would not be the cause of bi-polar... There are some many things I would like to say, have tried to to say about Prozac.... What I would have never thought of was: Prozac causing feeling of "manic depression"... From all the information I have found since my sons death. Prozac has been implicated, in fact renowned for either causing or exacerbating suicidal thoughts... Depression is the cause, anxiety breeds depression... Manic depression or as called now Bi -Polar is different and should have it's own medication to improve you situation... So did my son suffer from "manic depression". I would say no, he suffered from depression caused by anxiety."

flying replied: "Yes. Antidepressants can cause mania or hypomania. I was hypomanic on the dose of 10mg a day for depression, anxiety, and OCD. When this happens it is called bipolar IV."

phillip b replied: "meds are not any anwer what is paramount is to choose your healing route------ carefully-- be really aware that the conventional treatment for this can be horrendous and you can go on for years with no improvement and massive damaging detrimental side effects from meds . Do read this very carefully and try and understand the principles behind what is being said . Evaluate all of this info well –this info will save you years of suffering ---years if you apply it .. This will educate you on our health care system and its dire limitations All treatment recommended by the doctors should be tested and approved and quite rightly so. That makes sense right .it costs millions to test and approve treatments because of the possible damage to people.. Drug companies Fund most research and will only and I mean only look at treatments, which show the promise of good deal of a profit, --they will actively dismiss any therapy which does not have profit potential— thus your doctor will only recommend therapies with profit in them. Despite The fact that some of these other therapies mentioned do have overwhelming benefits some, which have saved needless amputations, needless pain and trauma, and much loss of life. Drugs are not the answer for depression with mind altering chemicals or any other mental illness. This is a fundamental principle and unless you grasp this fully –you could /will have years of suffering ahead of you . This does not help you though when you are ill and suffering—not hearing about therapies which can help from a person you look up to and trust Have you heard your local doctor recommend, Massage Spiritual healing, Herbs, Light therapy,Colour therapy, the violet ray therapy, Osteopathy, Electrical Frequency devices. These therapies will work for many complaints of a so called mental nature we have thousands of testimonials and results showing years of successful applications Do this and I will guarantee improvements to you inside a day its that simple, of course getting these things in place can be much harder. Each therapy can have a very beneficial influence on you. Print this all off save it and enact it and share it --- of course someone to help you get these therapies in your life is invaluable but do not be swayed by them trying for short cuts …. 1,get someone to massage your back and legs at least 3 times a week use peanut oil or a mix of 50-50 olive and peanut oil. 2 use the violet ray machine an Edgar Cayce device google search this --- 3 times a week on the other days especially on the spine….we use it every day with very positive results 3.get a tent sleep out side 3times a week utilising earth energy - nature can help big time especially with how you feel how much energy you have 4 study and apply good nutrition-- adequate minerals all of them particularly calcium and magnesium iron essential fatty acids omega 3 6 9 protein etc 5 ensure your thyroid is working well 7 ensure you do at least I hr per day some kind of voluntary work when you are able..the reasons you are ill , or poor or have allsorts of bad things happen to you is because of karma -----usually from past lives but some from this one –voluntary work will offset your mistakes--- how much it offsets well that is down to god and how much you do. Healing us is in direct proportion to the help we give others ie your healing comes with helping others achieve theirs so if people are doing very little in helping others ---they suffer more and longer...and if they are doing a lot they get well faster....so now you know what to do ,,and like a lot of us are already doing being of service. 8 be amongst people who are giving, friendly who have time for you who love you , choose your friends well 9 be or get to a place which personally love or like 10 get and do some work which you like or love 11 ensure you do no acts which hurt or inflict on anyone –don’t want to add to your karma do we !!! 12 spiritual healing yes and reiki -. 13think good positive thoughts, laughter, look at comedy, play good uplifting music, 14 avoid at all costs exposure to violence, murders, suffering ,death ,tragedies, -feed upon good things uplifting things, things that feel like a breath of fresh air.. 15 Positive affirmation- that’s right programme your self in the mirror , thoughts are things words are things actions are things , all have influence, few people realise these things can have an effect on themselves . 16 a detox ------ toxins can influence how you feel big time 17 hugs get plenty of them in your daily life you would be amazed at how people feel after a few decent hugs…. 18 loads of exercise running walking climbing but something which you enjoy 19 rid yourselves of all aspartame laden foods and drink and many additives get back to a wholesome organic diet diet A total cure however is tied up with karma so you can imagine just how important is t"

What are Prozac Withdrawal Symptoms? I recently had a bug that made it impossible for me to take Prozac for near a week. (Vomiting and such) Regardless, recently I have felt ill in other ways and I am curious as if it could be due to the Prozac. I get a strange feeling in my chest like my heart is not beating (thought it is) and I fell as though my blood pressure is not high enough. Additionally I feel nauseous and foggy headed. I was prescribed 80mg per day, now I am taking 60mg per day again, I have recontinued the medication after a little more than a week cold turkey, and have been taking it again for several days. Is this just me? Should I seek additional medical attention? Any advice?

Ron replied: "Prozac and other anti-depressant drugs are not addictive. This means they have no or very little effect if you quit them "cold turkey". I have been on several in the last few years, and that is what the psychiatrist told me. Hope this helps. God Bless You :)"
