How long will aches last after a twelve week Prednisone taper? I was on IV Prednisone. I started at 60 mg and a week ago tried to stop my approved taper but my jaw became stiff and mouth barely opened. Took three more days of Prednisone.
Now my shoulders and head ache like crazy. Anyone know how long this will last? I ache. I am taking only Tylenol as I have surgery scheduled in 11 days and can not take aspirin products.
M J replied: "hi ,12 weeks is fairly long for steroids ,you must taper off as directed and go the full term. once you have fully stopped ,your body has to re-adjust and function normally again . it,s abit like detoxing so could take around 2 to 3 weeks so dont be worried. but if you become concerned just have a chat with your doctor ok ,hope this put,s your mind at ease."

can you get moon face syndrome taking l0 mg of prednisone for less than a month, ive only been on it 1 week? i have been on prednisone for one week and notice swollen cheeks. will this go away when i stop in a couple of weeks? im not positive if it from weight gain, the increase in appetite is awful. can anyone help me out with this dilema.

Richard B replied: "When you stop taking the prednisone the moon face should slowly go away. Note that prednisone should not be stopped suddenly. You'll need to taper off it so there are no unwanted side effects from withdrawal. Prednisone is a very powerful substance."
I have been off of prednisone for a week now. How long will it take for the side effects to wear off? Specifically, the moon face, random neck fat, midsection bloating, mood swings and ankle swelling. I was on prednisone for two months. How long will it take to lose this "water" weight and is it even all water retention? I gained a good 15 lbs in that time and have since been exercising like crazy and watching what i eat. i haven't seemed to lose that much. Any one have any insight on a time frame? Thanks!
Kris D replied: "Ive taken Prednisone in the past and it has taken a couple weeks for the side effects to wear off. But the weight you gained may take longer depending on your metabolism."

glitter1shine replied: "try eating oatmeal or a high fiber cereal. it you can get alot of fiber in your system for a couple days it should get you back on track. also drink a lot of water to aid the fiber.

Buggs replied: "I'm a little concerned that you have been given bad advice by Panda. I mean no offense, just concerned. I'm not a doctor but I do know that fiber is for firming up loose stool. This is definately not your prolbem. You really should call your doctor or pharmacist about all those meds you're mixing up. If they are not causing any adverse affect other than constipation, he'll probably tell you to use any over the counter laxative. That'll get the river flowing.

I have been taking the steroid prednisone, and i have hained about 10 pounds in the past week is this normal? i have been taking it for two weeks on thursday, the first week was 60 mg and the week i'm on is 40mg, is this normal?
Oh, the reason i was on it was i had a really bad rash all over my body.

It is not safe to quit all at once with that high a dose. Hope it brings whatever problem you have under control quickly."

How can I prevent acne while taking prednisone? I am starting an 8 week dosage of prednisone and I want to know how to prevent myself from getting acne while I'm taking that medicine. I know that acne is one of the side effects from that drug. I took it once before and I got a bad case of acne that was really painful. Thanks in advance.
clueloopy_38 replied: "I also suffered from acne while taking prednisone. I am still currently taking prednisone, but my acne has recently cleared up. I'm blemish free & can't figure out what I'm doing differently.
An antibiotic like tetracycline would probably help with your acne & does not interact with prednisone. I'd ask your doctor about this before beginning a regimen.

Is it dangerous to drink (alcohol) when on Prednisone? I hear that you *shouldn't* drink alcohol while taking Prednisone, but is it dangerous? I *really* enjoy my glass of red wine at night and have been missing it while doing a two-week Prednisone taper. I'm on day 7, taking only 10mg/day. Would it be okay for me to have a glass of red wine tonight? What's the risk of combining the two? (i.e. why aren't you supposed to drink while taking Prednisone?)

Alcohol is a Depressant and can act like a Booster to some meds. or cause the side effects of a med to be more pronounced."
My doctor put me on prednisone for a week, and it is making me feel EXTREMELY bloated! is this normal, how can? I eliminate some of the bloating??!
