Find Naproxen Cramps in Q&A
Mentstral cramps? Naproxen? alright, so im 16 right, and i get WICKED menstral cramps, like, im in tears and i cant walk and i get to the point of getting sick, anyway, My mom took me to the doctor and she put me on 500 mg Naproxen tablets, which i started taking today. and now im all jittery and nervous, im home alone and feeling like crying, ive been crying on and off all day, im tired and i feel all weak and stuff. Is this normal to happen? Could the naproxen be messing with my hormones or could somethings else be going on? Also, just a thought i had.. should i be eating stuff before i take it? like toast or something? the fist dosage i took today i didnt eat anything right before, im about to take my second dose for the day (lucky me) and im eating toast with peanut butter. Is this a good idea?

eliz_esc replied: "You may be having an allergic reaction to the pain medication. I'd stop taking it for the evening and call your doctor tomorrow. In the meantime, take a warm bath and drink some hot tea - no sugar, which can make it worse. Do something you find soothing. Listen to music or watch a favorite TV show or read a book."

bbellsport replied: "for naproxen to work it has to be in your system before it really starts working the way it should its not like simple motrin that starts working 15 minutes after you take it...ask about birth control some pills only give you 3 periods a year and if yours are that bad you might wont to check into it ;)"

Sierra replied: "You may have an allergic reaction to this medication, but it is more likely that Naproxen is increasing your estrogen levels, making you more sensitive. I am so sorry that you are going through this. I pray that you will feel better, and if you are comfortable with it, then ask a doctor or gynecologist to reccomend a different medication. -Sierra"

krystinak4903 replied: "Naproxen is basically a hyped up motrin, its an NSAID, so if you've taken motrin in the past its not likeyly your allergic but it could happen. However since your periods are that painful the first thing that comes to my mind is something like premenstral dysphoric disorder. Something hormonally. I would go back to your Dr and A) address if the med are working for your PAIN, and B) the additional symptoms you are having. You may need something else. I sometimes need to take xanex for similar problems. Good luck!"

Can i take the pills Yaz and Naproxen together? I started taking the pill Yaz about a week ago and am not sure if i can take the pill Naproxen for cramps with it. Can anyone help? I tried calling my local pharmacy, clinic, and the hospital pharmacy and no one was in.

princess_tink replied: "Naproxen is just a pain killer, so yeah, read the leaflet u got with both sets of tablets and see what it says about taking them with other medicines....i cant see it doing any harm!"

Jes replied: "Yes, you can take those together. You can check on to see if any medications you take interact with each other, including over the counter drugs."

Naama replied: "Taking yaz and naproxen together presents a moderate risk of hyperkalemia--increased levels of potassium in the blood. As a one-off, I wouldn't be too worried, but I would recommend that you try something else before naproxen. Also, if you are just starting yaz, you might want to tell your doctor if your cramps are more severe than they used to be."

i was told bt my doctor to take naproxen for the first two days of my period to relieve severe cramps...? can that shorten and lighten mt period?

Alena replied: "probably not"

♥The Princess Baby♥ replied: "no..it only helps with the pain. try a heating pad also..it helps quicker then the pain pills"

SarahBelle replied: "No the only thing that will shorten or lighten it is birth control. But taking an OTC pain reliever ( like naproxen) will reduce your cramps, if not make them disappear completely."

Naproxen for period cramps? Do they work? I'm planning on taking them in the morning tomorrow. How long does one pill last for? (I had cramps so badly today and just went to the doctor, but my cramps went away)

cyni v replied: "Naproxen works like any tylenol or motrin would. AS SOON AS YOU KNOW your getting ur period, (i ussually do it when i just start bleeding) take sum pills. I use the blue Midol. If you take it soon enough itll help, the pain wont be as bad. Put a warming pack on ur tummy"

HerHuggyBunny replied: "One simple and cheap way to help with cramps (it's also the quickest, and the most convenient and natural) is having an orgasm by masturbating. It doesn't work for *all* women, but it does help many... and for some, it can get rid of cramps entirely for a while. "... an orgasm can cause your uterus to contract, enabling it to use up excess prostaglandins in the process. Prostagladins are hormones produced by your uterine lining. They help to stimulate contractions that move menstrual blood out of the uterus, and are also responsible for those cramps that occur throughout your period." "Primary Menstrual Cramps can be a debilitating problem for some 10% of women. Conventional treatment can even be as drastic as exploratory surgery whilst looking for a cure. A less intrusive solution is available. Orgasm from masturbation has been found to relieve the painful symptoms of menstrual cramps. Whilst it is not always convenient to masturbate for the necessary five minutes until the pain subsides, hands free masturbation is still possible. In order to do this one simply has to clench and then relax the vagina repeatedly for five minutes. With this method no one need know of the discomfort being suffered, and the pain soon goes. " "The flexing and contracting of an orgasm basically relieves the cramp. Reduces the intensity of the cramps. Also eases some of the other symptoms of premenstrual syndrome." -"

SZO replied: "The recommended dose is 550mg for period cramps. One dose is good for 12 hours so you may need to take twice daily."

can you take excedrine with naproxen for menstraul cramps....? i been takin naproxen for 5 days and it doesnt seem to help all the time...for instance i fell and hurt my arm. different pain. can i use excedrine while takin naproxen???

TeriR replied: "Best to ask your doctor or pharmacist."

ladiebugg81 replied: "What you need to take is ibuprofen. That is the best thing to take for cramps."

Darryl L replied: "A friend of mine is suffering from liver damage due to naproxen. You better leave all that stuff alone. A little pain never killed anyone. Pain medications have killed thousands."

alicia m replied: "im not sure about that. but here are some other remedies i like, because i have the worst cramps in the world and nothing helps. except, raspberry tea hot, icy hot, lots of water and fiber cleans you out!"

Kathryn replied: "no i would take asprin or IB profen that stuff works."

do you take naproxen 500mg for period cramps ? please tell me your dosage and side affects and also how long you/ve been using it thanks

aeroaru replied: "naproxen 500mg is not the right drug. Normally it is used for pains relating to migrane headhach & anklet pain. no way it is connected with period cramps. SPASMO PROXYVON is the right drug with limited side effects. MEFTAL SPAS is also recommended."

just curious replied: "I have terrible cramps but I have a script for extra strength Ibuprofen...that helps me. I don't know anything about naproxen..sorry."

Pharmacist James (PharmD) replied: "Naproxen 500mg is generic Aleve (220mg Naproxen). It is simply a higher dose in the 500mg tablet form but you should not exceed that dose. One tablet at 500mg taken twice a day (every 12 hours) is the maximum in which you should take the medication because of its side-affects. Bleeding in the stomach and intestines is common with drugs like Naproxen because they are NSAIDs which stands for Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Some side affects can include increased tiredness or fatigue due to the medicine and/or ulcers along with the bleeding (related to long term use). Take with food to minimize these effects. If this drug doesn't work you can try Advil (Ibuprofen). Over the counter the pills are sold in 200mg tablets. You can take up to four of these 200mg tablets (with food is an absolute must) every 6 hours (3200mg per day). Do not exceed this dose and do not take it without food. Do not take Ibuprofen with Naproxen. The only over the counter medicine you can take either drug with is Tylenol (Acetaminophen). I hope this helps, stay healthy."

Will naproxen help with cramps? Will it help with blood flow too? Cuz im 13 and someone said it doesn't work... My obgyn prescribed me with it instead of birth control. 500mg. If you dont know what im talking about, im talking about periods...

Cyprian replied: "It will only help with pain but take it with some food because it's not easy on stomachs."

Nia replied: "It doesn't help the blood flow, you need birth control meds or Ponstel to ease a heavy flow. Naproxen or Ibuprofen, anything in the NSAID family, are the best things you can take for period cramps though."

Wolf Femme replied: "It will help with cramps, but don't take them unless absolutely necessary - try a heating pad first. Pain Killers, especially prescribed ones, shouldn't be used at every glance of pain. Won't help with blood flow, though."

n*babii replied: "yes it will, don't use too much."

What is the maximum dosage a person should take of Naproxen in a 24/hr period? I have menstrual cramps and they're absolutely killer right now. Ive tried a hot bath, Ive tried yoga, Ive tried laying in the fetal position, Ive tried tylenol with codine (2) and i've just now taken 1 & a half naproxen

Kat replied: "I just went to the doc the other day and he told me to take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Even though the bottle says something else, the doc said it was fine."

freemailalways replied: "try reading the directions on the box kidd'O =)"

Christy SD Nurse replied: "The max dose is 4 pills per day. It is best to take 2 pills 12 hours apart for max benefit. Be sure to not take Ibuprofen during this time and both medications have the same ingredients. You can also try going for a walk this helps the cramps as well."

Michael M replied: "Do *not* take naproxen for menstrual cramps. Like aspirin, it prevents your blood clotting ("thins" it) and can make your period heavier and more painful. Advil, Tylenol, and many other NSAIDS unrelated to aspirin are much better and safer."

SZO replied: "The recommended starting dose is 550 mg of naproxen sodium as ANAPROX/ANAPROX DS followed by 550 mg every 12 hours or 275 mg every 6 to 8 hours as required. The initial total daily dose should not exceed 1375 mg of naproxen sodium. Thereafter, the total daily dose should not exceed 1100 mg of naproxen sodium."
