About Lisinopril Spironolactone in Questions
Hypertension: Currently taking Lisinopril and Spironolactone? What are the alternatives? I'm looking for the alternatives to using these medications. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, need to improve kidney health: Please help.

Ask_this_one replied: "If you want an alternative to these drugs, I suggest that you speak to your doctor. Both of these drugs are prescribed for SERIOUS conditions. DO NOT BE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO THINK THAT THERE IS AN HERBAL ALTERNATIVE. THE HERBAL FORMULAS ARE NOT TESTED BY THE FDA AND YOU CANNOT TRUST THEIR EFFICACY. YOU HAVE TO WATCH OUT."

roseyjoey replied: "G'luck. Auld Lang Syne! Bon Voyage! I take Lisinopril NOW and used to take Spironolactone. Not as often as I should, though.. There are some home remedies for high blood pressure if that's what you have. WARNING! Any and all drugs ending in -one: Do not use salt substitutes or low-sodium milk products that contain potassium. These products could cause your potassium levels to get too high while you are taking spironolactone. Also: no grapefruit juice."

I'm on Lisinopril, Amlodipine & Spironolactone -high BP Lisinopril makes me cough May I leave it off? Also is it safe to take Amlodipine only?

b jo replied: "U NEED TO CONSULT THE DR. THAT PRESCRIBED THOSE MEDICATIONS AND TELL THEM YOUR SYMPTONS AND LET THEM DECEIDE"

the_only_solorose replied: "It is never safe to mess with your medications without the approval of your doctor. A cough is a common side effect of Lisinopril, and there are meds he can prescribe instead, but until you talk to him, do not stop the medication."

Tracy M replied: "Lisinopril can cause coughing, but you should call your doctor if you can quit taking it. Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic, and there is probably a very specific reason you were prescribed that medication also. Call you doctors office tomorrow to see if you can leave a message for him/her, they'll let you know what you should do. Hope this helps!"

angel in disguize replied: "you must consult your doctor for any medication changes. lisinopril does cause a cough but can be replaced with another blood pressure medication. Lisinopril is widely given in preference due to longer lasting effects means you dont have to take it as often. Ask your doctor about capoten also known as captopril. Keep on mind though that most blood pressure medications side effects include a cough. Jus please, whatever you do, dont stop taking it!"

How can I know if I have too much potassium in the body? Are there symptoms, what will happen? I am taking Yaz, Lisinopril, Celebrex and Spironolactone. All of these meds have a warning about increasing potassium levels.

frediwhite@verizon.net replied: "The most obvious symptom is when your heart stops beating. Don't stint on the salt (sodium chloride) which balances potassium. Avoid bananas, orange juice, sweet potatoes. Do you really need all those meds?"

emmabugg replied: "doesn't it say in the pamplets for your meds? i think too much potassum can cause heart and kidney failure in large amounts. not to mention yaz can cause heart attacks, strokes and blood clots. sounds like you got one toxic combination of drugs."

realgirl replied: "you will feel dizzy, lightheaded and you will have heart palpitations."

whitehaze412 replied: "See your doctor quick!!!, its not good for the heart if with too low or too high of Potassium. Have a blood test...check your electrolytes, urea, crea to check your renal (kidney) function too, have an ECG electrocardiogram, high T wave meaning you got high potassium!"
