Levaquin Tablets for colds Sinus & lung infections? What is the VERY best next thing medical wise that you can buy over the counter at your nearest drug store for minor lung infections? My Doctor prescriptions called for Levaguin 500 MG Tablet MCN. I just got over a bronchitis & could not afford the Doctor & Prescription bill, but did manage, but will have $$$ problems the next time . So what could i buy over the counter that would really help for Bronchitis! the next time ????. Luke C.

Curious Me replied: "Try asking your doctor first. As far as I know, there are no antibiotics sold OTC. Your doctor may even have sample medication for you. Good luck and stay healthy. Spring is ALMOST here!"

crowfeathers replied: "Sometimes you don't need antibiotics for bronchitis. Not unless you have a high temperature. What you can do is get some Robitussin (plain) and drink a good amount of liquids each day. That will cause the mucus to be coughed up easier. Keep some Robitussin on hand. Or even the store brand will do, the ingredient you want is Guaifenesin."

Levaquin or Cipro for upper Respiratory Infection / Bronchitits? I came down with an upper respiratory infection/ Bronchitis and 101.4 fever over the weekend. I have refills on Levaquin 500mg tablets and Cipro 500 mg as well. I can't get a hold of my Doctor this morning and really need to start taking something today. Which Antibiotic will help me more the Cipro or Levaquin? Thanks for any info.

cryptoxmit replied: "The use of antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin to treat bronchitis is to be considered unnecessary and as such exposes the patient to an unacceptable risk of suffering a severe adverse reaction. Additionally ciprofloxacin and other fluoroquinolones have no effect upon viral infections such as the common head cold. Levaquin has been approved by the FDA for treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis .... not acute bronchitis .. this antibiotic has many side effects"

Question for a doctor!? Can i take LEVAQUIN 500 mg tablets if i was taking AZITHROMYCIN 250 mg tablets?

Grammie replied: "To be honest, when it comes to prescription meds, even if I'm thinking of taking over the counter meds with them and I'm unsure of the potential for side effects, I speak with the pharmacist moreso than the doctor. The doctors often only know what the drug reps tell them, however the pharmacists are very well educated and have built-in red flags for hazards such as mixing the wrong meds. Good luck."
