Lamictal For Anxiety Resource in Answers
Has Lamictal helped anyone with depression and anxiety? I have been on Lamictal for almost 1-month now. I just wanted to know how it has helped others with depression, mood, and anxiety in general? I am on a really, really, low does. 12.5mg and only going to 25mg due to drug sensitivity. Thanks!

Baxter replied: "at such a low dosage, i don't think it'll do much. in my own experience, lamictal takes a very long time to take affect, although other people i know have found it helpful after a long period of time. stick with it and see what happens. good luck, and feel better"

Can anyone tell me if lamictal is good for anxiety attacks or just for bi-polar? I suffer very bad mood swings and anxiety attacks since the birth of my 4th child in December of 2004 and I have tried so many different medicines and non seem to work. I just need to get my mind back to normal and I really need sum advice

nehevea11 replied: "Lamictal does not treat anxiety - it only helps with seizures and reduces the cycling and severity of bipolar disorder. It's also sometimes used to treat migraine headaches."

KathieJo replied: "Anti-anxiety medication should help. With the right dosage, it should alleviate your anxiety and not make you too sleepy, once your body adjusts. Good luck! kjl"

caf_n_8d replied: "You really need to ask your doctor about your medications, tell them when they aren't working, and what symptoms you are still having. If you're doctor doesn't seem very helpful or is a poor listener, seek another! It's very important to have a doctor you can talk to whom you trust. I've tried lots of medications myself, unfortunately, and some worked, some didn't. Some worked for a while, and stopped working, which is what I'm going through right now. But the right combination of medication and therapy (along with a healthier lifestyle) will help. You just need the guidance of your psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and your general practitioner. Usually, all of these doctors will work in sync, even consult each other for proper treatment (if they have your own well-being in mind and not their own egos). Good luck to you, R"

rgriffis68 replied: "Lamictal is just good for preventing future depressions and manias. It is not an effective intervention for anxiety attacks. Short term use of benzodiazepines is best for that. Best to go with a doctor's advice, but a good doc can be hard to find. Best of luck."

Im currently taking Lamictal, but I still have severe anxiety and hypomania. What medication could I add? Don't worry about medical disclaimers, feel free to blurt out your opinions. Id like to go into the doctors office with a few suggestions to present to him.

fiVe replied: "I've been on Lamictal for a while, along with Wellbutrin, and when that wasn't leveling me out enough my doctor added Abilify. Now I'm just about as stable as I've ever been. With the occasional dose of Ativan for acute anxiety."

imgram replied: "I do not know about Lamactal, so you have to ask about the interactions, but! I took xanax, and it helped me get through the really bad days. It is very addictive though, so if you get a prescription, only use them sparingly. the best of luck to you."

KIZIAH replied: "Seroquel or Abilify will take care of your hypomania. It works wonders."

Lamictal and anti-anxiety meds? i am currently taking lamictal for severe depression but i def need to be on something for my extreme anxiety. is anyone out there taking or have taken both lamictal and an anti-anxiety med? if so, what anxiety med did you use and did it work? im going to the doctors tomorrow and would like to see what your thought and opinions are. thanks so much!

CrazyTraci replied: "Lamictal (lamotrigine) may be taken with many of the anti-anxiety medications with no problems. Drugs like Xanax (alprazolam), Ativan (lorazepam), and others may safely be used by people on Lamictal. I'm sure your doctor will be able to help you find the relief you need from your anxiety. Best of luck!"

Increased Lamictal = increased anxiety? I recently went from 50mg a day to 100mg, and I'm feeling anxiety I didn't before. Could there be a connection?

YA Junkie replied: "Yes, there could be a connection, although I don't know you and can't be definite about the connection. I suffer from major depression and take Lamictal, Abillify and Klonopin. During a serious depression this summer, my shrink upped my dosage of Lamictal from 100 to 200 mg. I got blurry vision and more insomnia after the increase in Lamictal. I called up my shrink and he lowered my Lamictal and upped my Abilify. Now I feel much better. I suggest giving your shrink a call. Unfortunately, there is a lot of trial and error in finding the right psychiatric meds. Also, you are always entitled to a 2nd opinion. The link below might help. "

Lamictal and anxiety? So Iam on lamictal started recently it is interesting I felt great for a few days then I started feeling shaky and a little dizzy kind of I also got tension in my jaw and my head like its in a vice. Anyone else felt this. Did it go away? Any advice?

SUSAN K replied: "talk to your dr, maybe the dose is too high maybe see a naturopath for something natural to take, that won't make you feel worse"

Doctor Gave Me Lamictal For Anxiety? do you think it may work i got samples today

Erica C replied: "I've tried Lamictal and it works great, although I was using it as a combination with Prozac. Lamictal is a great mood stabilizer...doctors prescribe it for a lot of people with Bi-Polar disorder..."

mannliz replied: "My Neuro put me on it for Peripheral Neuropathy(nerve damage)did nothing for me.Who knows maybe it will work for you.....good luck...........Liz."

anonymoususer987876 replied: "nope. It helps with depression but not anxiety."

nocturnalfaerie replied: "Interesting choice... very interesting choice. maybe he thinks you've got bipolar and didnt want to tell you :) or is he just a quack? but seriously... i have never seen in any literature that it has anti anxiety properties. though it helps with depression and most anti depressants can help with anxiety so its possible but it seems a very strange choice. If you get a rash while taking it go to the ER immediately best of luck"

lil sammy replied: "I was given it for ADHD (?!) Weird, off label use like yours. I'm gonna vote that it will work. It such an odd med and different for everyone. When I started taking it, my husband made the joke that I just "sat down and shut up" permanently. For sure no anxiety going on there. After being on it long term, I decided it was not for me as an only medicine because I became very subdued and kinda sad. Just make sure you do the starter pack correctly, and if you start to feel better, no need to up your dose. Good luck!! PS-Keep tissues handy, the first few days start with a torrent of runny snot. Ick."
