Fever Levaquin Facts in Q&A
I had blurry vision and fever after i took levaquin? i was diagnosed with a sinus infection and was prescribed levaquin, after about 4 to 5 hours after i took the dose i experienced blurry vision, increased chills and my fever went up.i know levaquin is a potent medication.anyone have similar side effects?

versantly replied: "inform your doctor -he's not on Yahoo!!"

I have a UTI and now a fever but i don't think the levaquin is working? I get UTI's about every 3 months, and i do everything the doctor has told me to prevent them but i still get them, anyway i went to the doctor and they prescribed me 3 days worth of levaquin at 500 mg each, i took the second one last night but i don't think its going away, levaquin worked great when i took it the last time, could i become immune to it because i became immune to bactrim, today i think i have a fever, am i getting this because my body is trying to fight off the infection?

Cari N replied: "You may need a 7 day course of a stronger antibiotic. I had a UTI only once in my life, and my doctor said he always prescribes a 7 day course of antibiotics. He feels that a 7 day course is better than 3 days. You should get another appt to be seen."

Jenna * replied: "hey i have frequent uti problems too..and i recently went to the urologist and he asked me if i ever have fevers in conjunction with the uti's i said no which indicated that i dont have something worse...you should call your doctor or a urologist and tell them you have a fever...you might have cystitis or something like that.....i think thats what my urologist said...."

Shannon V replied: "Call your doctor if you have a fever after 24 hours on the meds they are not working."

Levaquin or Cipro for upper Respiratory Infection / Bronchitits? I came down with an upper respiratory infection/ Bronchitis and 101.4 fever over the weekend. I have refills on Levaquin 500mg tablets and Cipro 500 mg as well. I can't get a hold of my Doctor this morning and really need to start taking something today. Which Antibiotic will help me more the Cipro or Levaquin? Thanks for any info.

Sherri Nurse replied: "Levaquin"

cryptoxmit replied: "The use of antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin to treat bronchitis is to be considered unnecessary and as such exposes the patient to an unacceptable risk of suffering a severe adverse reaction. Additionally ciprofloxacin and other fluoroquinolones have no effect upon viral infections such as the common head cold. Levaquin has been approved by the FDA for treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis .... not acute bronchitis .. this antibiotic has many side effects"

Fever and burning with urination? My wife has had burning with urination and a fever (about 100 degrees) off and on for several weeks. She has been tested for UTI, and they say it came back fine. She was given antibiotics, but it did nothing. She went back 3 days later and they again tested for UTI, and said she did not have one, and gave her levaquin. It helped for a while, but it was only a five day supply and when she ran out the pain and fever returned. She returned to the doctor two days ago, and they scheduled an MRI. They said the results were normal, and did not offer anything further. Any ideas or suggestions?

SUZI S replied: "I suggest she see her OB/GYN as if could have something to do with the reproductive system. Good luck!"

corgiesrule replied: "Have them check for an interstitial bladder infection. This is where the infection is actually in the wall of the bladder and often does not show up on urinalysis."

So_you_want_to_know replied: "I would go back to the doctors and demand some answers."

Garrett replied: "Sounds like she needs to go back again and ask them to refer her to another doctor. What sort of health-care provider is she seeing - you just said "they" did this and that. She should be seeing an internist or possibly a kidney specialist. I'm not sure what the MRI was for - ie what was imaged. Sometimes a person can have symptoms when they urinate from a problem that is going on inside the abdomen next to the bladder such as an abscess (infection which has a collection of pus ). It irritates the bladder and so you get the symptoms, but since the infection is not actually in the urine, the urine grows no germs (however the urine would usually have some white blood cells in it). That is just one possibility - maybe the MRI was intended to look for that, though I would think usually they would get a CT scan. However, it is not a good idea to try to diagnose on line - there are too many possibilities. Your wife definitely needs to see another doctor if the first one can't help you."

I have bronchitis and sinus infection. dr. gave me allegra and levaquin to take. Why am I sweating like a pig? 2 or 3 times last night, i woke up just soaking wet from sweat, I don't have a fever. Is the infection coming out or what????

shocked replied: "You may not think you have a fever, but sinusitis is an infection, and you probably have a low grade fever. The sweating is the fever breaking, and you body fighting the infection. You are getting better."

Victoria replied: "You probably do have a temperature and if you have an infection then that is probably the reason."

Laura L replied: "My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis, and I use to to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria. you need distilled water sea salt liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store. in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature. add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix. using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down. Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all. Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time. Then do it once a week for maintenance. There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me. I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore. best wishes"

Productively Curious replied: "Certain medicines, including thyroid hormone, morphine, drugs to reduce fevers, and medicines to treat mental disorders cause excessive sweating."

Question regarding joint pain upon finishing supscription medications (Naproxen and Levaquin)? My knees and ankles are in pretty serious pain. I was told it was a side effect of the drugs (probably the Naproxen). Is this normal? How long can it last? How can I help it heal? You can answer the question using the above details but if you really know what your talking about and want more info, please read on.... I went to the hospital on March 3rd for a fever of 104 and a rash that caused a lot of swelling in my left ankle along with red spots. I stayed 3 nights and was never officially diagnosed with anything. I was given Levaquin and Naproxen and finished both of my subscriptions after about 7-10 days. Two side effects came a few days after finishing the medications. A stomach ulcer and joint pain. The stomach ulcer is being treated now with Nexium. The joint pain was in my elbows, wrists, ankles, and knees. It is no longer bothering my wrists or elbows but my knees and ankles are in incredible pain. I also have cramping in my calves. Can anyone offer any advice? My knees hurt walking up and down stairs. My right knee hurts A LOT when I am just sitting and I need to get up and walk around to ease the pain. My ankles and calves ache when I walk (they basically feel like I played basketball all day or ran a marathon the day before), it is just a sore/aching pain. I haven't done any physical activity in about 3 weeks. Will these pains just work their way out in a few days?

danzka2001 replied: "I don't know about Levaquin Naproxen is a anti-inflamatory The same as whats in advail I take 1000mg naproxen a day for migraines. I have taken this for over 10 years and have had no side effects like you describe"

K replied: "I've never heard of Naproxen causing these types of side effects. Usually Naproxen is prescribed FOR pain. Have you been tested for Lupus (Anti-DNA), had your antinuclear antibodies (ANA) checked for other autoimmune conditions?? Not sure what the drug called Levaquin is typically prescribed for. Can you Google detailed prescribing information for each?? Enter it in quotes and separately, like: "Naproxen" "prescribing information". At least this could potentially rule out side effects and would give you info on the half-life of these drugs, and therefore, at least, *some* indication as to how long each stays in your system (i.e., providing info on whether your symptoms could indeed be explained by the effect of these pills). With the extreme fever, was a virus panel done?? Perhaps, you have a chronic, as opposed to an acute, infection of some sort. Gosh, sorry I can't be of more help. I would certainly not wait this out for much longer. Ask your doc what can be done now since it sounds like you've been off the medication for a while now and given the short time you were on this medication, it doesn't sound like these meds can explain the continuance of this symptomology."

mdGreg C replied: "Naproxen is Aleve, Not Advil. I don't Think it is the Cause of your Problem."

shareeflarka replied: "as mentioned in previous answers, the naproxen is definately not the source of your problems, naproxen is often prescribed to help combat arthritic pains in the body, it is an anti inflammatory and helps to ease the pain and reduce the stress on the joints and muscles in the body, levaquin is a high strength broad spectrum antibiotic that is not to be taken with vitamins and minerals, if you took any vitamins and minerals while you were on levaquin then you take the risk of nullifying the effects of vitamins and minerals causing then to clump up and be xposed to other parts of the body, that could have caused a deposit on the bones and joints located around your knee, of course i am not a medical doctor, but i am a medical student the best thing would be to approach your doctor, until then i would take tylenol arthritis, and try some more aleve"

lesleypharmd replied: "The Naproxen is most likely not the cause of your joint pain. However, joint and tendon pain can be a side affect of the levaquin (an antibiotic in the quinolone family; similar to cipro). These symptons should start to resolve soon if they were caused by the Levaquin. If you don't start feeling better in the near future, you should speak to your physician about other possible causes."

How do you know if bronchitis is turning into walking pneumonia? A week ago I was told I had bronchitis. I was having coughing fits and a tight chest. Was put on an antibiotic (Levaquin) and 2 different cough medicines. However, every day I feel weaker and weaker when I come home. Starting to feel as if I have a fever and aches. Feel as if there are a ton of flat weights sitting on my chest - hurts right in the middle of my breast bones and then right under. Back hurts too. But I'm not coughing anything up. The coughs have diminished - only happens a little, but my chest is still killing me. Stomach is also starting to hurt. Is it getting worse and turning into walking pneumonia?

Slingo replied: "If you've had the bronchitis a week and have been able to sleep and been not feeling this weight and pain in your chest something new might have developed, like you suspect. Does the feeling of the weight make you scared to lie down, or is it extra hard to breath when you try to lay down? If so, you are probably being alarmed by the possible fluid in your lungs spreading out when you try to lay flat. If not maybe it could be that all the coughing has really worn out your body to the point where the muscles are aching. To be sure you should probably see a doctor if things feel worse, or you're unable to sleep or function normally."

helpinghand replied: "visit a doctor. That'st he best thing to do. It's better to fix it now than waiting for it to actually happen. Please visit your doctor"

What could be the cause of a stiff neck? My hubby was diagnosised with a sinus infection on Monday, he was prescribed Levaquin 750 mgs per day, nasal spray and phenergan vc with codeine for his cough. He has laid around all week with chills, fever and body aches, no energy. Today he is complaining of right sided stiff neck, what could this be the cause of?

irishlass replied: "Believe it or not it could be from just sleeping the wrong way or he could have pulled a muscle just by coughing or sneezing. Taking 800mg of Advil and using a muscle rub such as icy hot or tiger balm will help ease it, the pain can last up to a week, so continuing with the advil and muscle rubs will help you get through it. A heating pad will also be good but you cannot do the rubs and heating pad at the same time. Check on the levaquin on drugs.com, I believe it can cause RA symptoms in some people."

Is a week-long low-grade fever normal with pneumonia? I've been diagnosed with the flu and pneumonia. The doctor prescribed Levaquin, which I've taken twice so far. I've had a fever between 99-101 all week long! Yesterday after taking my first Levaquin, I felt pretty ok, but then overnight my fever spiked up to 101.1! What's going on! The first fever I had showed up Monday afternoon. Now it's Saturday and I'm still having 99-100 or so fevers! I've never had pneumonia so I don't know what to expect, but I feel so crappy and this fever just won't go away! Do I need to go to the hospital?? I think some of you aren't reading the question. I HAVE been to the doctor, I DID get antibiotics, and I'm asking about the fever!?! How long does a fever last with pneumonia?! That's what I want to know? And at what point does it become serious? I've had a fever all week, and I want to know if I should worry.

secretsmile* replied: "Yes. Get it checked out!"

clari331 replied: "YES GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOWWW!!! PEOPLE HAVE DIED WITH THAT IM NOT KIDDING FEVER MEANS INFECTION!!! GO NOW DONT WAIT!!!"

thunderhorde replied: "As long as the fever stays towards the low side, you shouldnt go to the hospital. Since youve only taken your script twice, it may need another day or two before it kicks in, than you should see DRASTIC changes in how you feel. After that its going to be fun coughing everything up. ^^^^ Dont worry about the fever, like i said, keeping taking the script and your fever will drop within 24-48 more hours. Apparently it wasnt serious enough or the doctor would have told you to go to the hospital. If you really want to get rid of the infection quickly, go to the store and get ginger, than put the ginger in some tea and drink all of it. After that go lay down under some covers and go to bed. The fever will be broken after that, but ONLY if you go to sleep for about 3 or more hours."

huniebunie replied: "Honestly, I wouldnt worry about it. Its a low-grade fever, and if you're taking antibiotics, it, of couse, will need time to work. If after about 10 days on the antibiotics, you dont feel well, go back to the doctor. If your fever spikes above 102, like 103 or higher, then maybe its something to worry about."

valhalla_val replied: "I think it's normal to have a fever when your body is fighting off an infection such as pneumonia. And really, your fevers haven't really been that high. High would be anything 102 and over. Assuming it hasn't gone that high, I think you're probably ok. Just try to rest a lot, stay hydrated, keep taking Tylenol and your antibiotics, and hopefully you'll start feeling better within the next couple of days."

Levaquin for UTI ....can I find drug in Singapore? I am an expat from the US and was just diagnosed with a UTI. My Dr. in Singapore recommended I be treated with a intravenous antibiotic which would mean having to have a heplock inserted and visiting the Dr.'s office twice per day for 7 days. This seems severe considering that my bacteria count is 100,000 and I'm not experiencing any fever or pain. I have had many UTI in the past 20 yrs and never have I had to have intrevenous drugs to treat. I have called my Dr. in US and am waiting for reply. Nurse also mentioned she thought intrevenous antibiotics was a severe treatment and that Levaquin and Cipro were drugs of choice. I have had Levaquin in the past and it's excellent. If I can obtain prescription can I purchase this drug in Singapore and from which pharmacy?? Please reply soon.

Pr!nc3$$ replied: "drink or eat carnberries they really work"

Aunt Belle replied: "If you can get Levaquin or Cipro, they will work for a UTI. It's best to take something you've had before so you don't have an allergic reaction in Singapore. Just make sure you take the full course of antibiotics and drink a lot of water. In my experience, you don't get an intravenous antibiotic for a UTI unless it has turned into a kidney infection. Does the doctor think for some reason that it has? I would pursue that discussion; do you really not have fever? lower back/flank pain? headache? If none of the above, indeed it's odd. (If he thinks you have a kidney infection, you should probably get the IV; kidney infections can cause kidney damage (plus being miserable).) Just in general, I wonder whether you should look for a new doctor? If you told this doctor you wouldn't get an IV, would he give you an Rx for Levaquin? I don't know whether either of these are available where you are--sorry."

$$$ replied: "i think you need the doctor's prescription for that, especially if its a controlled drugs, cos you won't get controlled drugs easily here in Singapore, maybe you can also try search 88db to look for any medicine that is suitable for you and could help you get well, alternatively, maybe you can try using the TCM if it works.....hope this helps"
