Can you have Zoloft withdrawal after one day? Or is that the Zoloft side effects? I felt bad anxiety tonight, a couple hours after the time I took first dose last night. Is this withdrawal or a side effect? I wanted to take it in the morning, when I can handle any anxiety side effects better [night=scary] Thanks! To clarify, I know people say it takes awhile to get in your system, but I can tell the anxiety is related to the drug, as I have drugged feeling and sweat feeling I normally don't.

Kelly replied: "Withdrawal is when you take a medicine for a long time, and then stop, and your body freaks out cuz the medicine is gone. If you've only taken it once, it's definitely not withdrawals. It's more likely a side effect. Most side effects go away after a week or so. You might double check with your dr, but usually you can take anti-depressants at night or in the morning, whichever works best for you."

quinntheeskimo37 replied: "That is definitely not withdrawals. Way, way too soon for that. I take Luvox and Wellbutrin for OCD and anxiety and at first when I took them they actually did make me more anxious. The same effect happened when I raised or lowered my dose. It went away after about a week and after a month of using the meds I felt absolutely great. Better than I ever have in my life. It really takes about a month or so to know how you will feel on a given med. If you have a concern I would contact your doctor and discuss with your concerns with the doctor. This is something that really cannot be solved here on the internet. I will say that I urge you to give the meds a chance, they do work and have relieved the symptoms for many people... but can be a little funky at first. The funkiness will usually subside with time."

Paul A replied: "After only one day you won't experience any withdrawals from Zoloft. I would guess you might be experiencing "break-in" side effects. Some people get them, and some don't. They don't last very long, maybe a couple weeks or so. I had very vivid dreams for a while, and they eventually went away. I found (by experimenting) the best time for me to take my Lexapro (an SSRI, like Zoloft) is with dinner. I sleep the best at night, and I'm more awake the next day."

cutetrio2002 replied: "The first week to two weeks you are going to have that feeling but it does go away. I took mine right before I went to bed so I was sleeping for the worst of the woozies (my name for that weird feeling)! I felt very sleepy but jittery at the same time and also had the anxiety you described the first few days after I started taking it. I kept thinking this is awful, I'm supposed to feel better! I actually started out with effexor then switched to zoloft. You wouldn't experience any withdrawal after just one dose. Consider toughing it out because you really do feel better after the first few days."

Zoloft side effects? Is anyone taking Zoloft? If so, what side effects did you have and how long did they last? My doctor prescribed me to it but I have been scared to start taking it because of the side effects and the withdrawal factor.

Assley replied: "I have taken it and have had no symptoms, however my friend is taking it now and it has made her nauseous. As far as the withdrawal, it is different for everyone. Some people can stop taking it with no problem, but other people cant. Here are a list of side effects with zoloft "

giannam replied: "I have not experienced any side effects with Zoloft. Neither has my best friend. My mother claims Zoloft made her gain weight. Other people may also experience sexual side effects (mainly, you have the sex-drive of a carrot). The sexual side effects last the entire time you're on the medication... from what I hear Your doctor likely gave you a low dosage to start with (25mg preferably, though I've started at 50mg more often than not) which will help lower the chances of any serious adverse health effects. I have never found a problem with withdrawl when taking myself off Zoloft (which I do with at least 4 times a year). It should be noted that like any antidepressants, quick stopping the medication can cause seizures, which is why you should always follow doctor directions for tapering off the medication should you need to stop it."

7 days until Disneyland replied: "I took Zoloft for a year with out any side effects. However, when I was switched over to the generic, I had worsened depression to the point that I just didn't want to leave the house or live. The brandname Zoloft seems to be ok but there are studies out that the generic is very bad."

Masood replied: "Yes I am (50mg). when i started about year and a half ago... i remember very clearly i had like the worst week... i was sweaty, panicky, anxious but everything went away in a week... the first day or two were really bad. I would suggest have something like xanax (alprazolam) or Valium (diazepam) or something like this with you when you start.. so that you can pop one if you feel really really bad... but i think Zoloft works wonders in most people including me.. it didn't make me gain weight but it makes it impossible for me to loose or gain weight... i have one 'stable' weight no matter what i do.. weird but very true. Give it a month... and hopefully it will work magically :) ohhh and also i think you should start on with no more than 25mg and then increase.. Best of luck :)"

Withdrawal effects from taking Zoloft ? How long do you have to take Zoloft before experiencing Withdrawal symptoms. I stopped cold turkey. I know it's a bad thing to do but I can't deal with the side effects from the Zoloft

Lindsey M replied: "You can't do that... it's really bad for you! They side effects will last at least a week. It's really dangerous to do that. Talk to your doctor about slowly cutting down. Seriously I did it and got sooooo sick."

Paul A replied: "Depending on the dose, and how long you've been taking it, it can be very bad for you. The withdrawal symptoms are very much not pleasant, and you'll wish you had done it the proper way. If you've taken them long than a week or so you will experience withdrawals."

Jody replied: "Don't like Zoloft? Go on another. The SSRI's are easy to change to. But Zoloft doesn't have the side effect of weight gain and the rest, except Prozac, do cause weight gain. Someone said Wellbutrin, it's a good medicine, not a SSRI and you won't gain weight. If you've only been taking Zoloft a week, it's not long enough. Stay on it another week at least, it's a good medicine and in two weeks you will start to feel the good effects and the bad will be wearing off. How is your infant daughter through all of this?"

how long do the sexual side effects last in zoloft after u stop taking the drug? do the withdrawal symptoms last long after u stop taking them compared to other antidepressants. i've been off zoloft for a week and still have the sexual side effects. when i stopped taking a couple other drugs the side effects went away right away. so i was just wondering.

CASS replied: "When I was on that as many others, I had NO drive at all! After I stopped taking it, it was about 2-3 weeks for me. But its different in men then in female. We have other hormones that effect the drive for better or worse."

How do I withdraw from Zoloft without too many side-effects? I'm 16 years old and I've been taking 50 mg of Zoloft for Panic Disorder for four months. Since the side effects have begun to wear on me and I feel that I can manage my anxiety on my own, I want to begin tapering off of it. My doctor prescribed 25 mg and said we can go from there. However, I know that if I get bad withdrawal symptoms I'll freak out. Any advice for withdrawing with the least amount of problems?

MiXxeD replied: "Follow your Dr.'s instructions, or things could get worse for you if you do it on your own.....Good Luck......m edit: if you are having side effects, you need to let your parents know, so you can get an appt, to see your Dr..."

kr55 replied: "I think you should follow your doctor's advice instead of reading what bunch of people have to say that probalby have no idea how zoloft is used by the body."

StaceFace replied: "follow exactly what you're psychiatrist says! and tell him/her immediately about any serious side effects, like suicidal thoughts, increased anxiety, more than normal panic attacks, etc. some mild side effects will occur, like perhaps shaky hands, slight clumsiness, forgetfulness, etc."

darknowhere00 replied: "Follow your doctor's advice and try to taper down the way they have told you to. Don't try to go cold turkey because it could cause you to have a lot of side effects and cause even more anxiety."

Lovingly stalking since 95' replied: "Well zoloft isn't supposed to have very bad withdrawal effects. I would recommend taking half a pill for like a month and then switch to like a fourth a pill and then just stop."

sowshandel replied: "just slowly reduce your mgs. gauge it with your mood. you know how it affects you best. split your tabs if you have to, i definitely would down the line. its you thats taking the drugs, and youre the one who should be in control of the logic behind your withdrawal. if 25mg isnt enough for you, but doc wants you to take it/controls your refills, you can take maybe 1 1/2 of them in the beginning. doc expects you to go from 25 to 0 (if 25 is the smallest dosage per pill) one day. just smooth out your dosages"

how long will zoloft be out of my system and any withdrawal ? i took 25mg of zoloft for 10 days and stopped cold turkey. how long will this medicine stay in my system ? and do you think i will get withdrawal side effects ? thx for reading.

mkst replied: "i did not have side effects but i stopped with doctors permission. do you have the dr ok?"

littleluci replied: "The dose you took is relatively low and you didn't say how long ago you went cold turkey but if it was more that 3 days ago then it is unlikely you will have withdrawal symptoms. More importantly if this medication was prescribed for a reason, that condition will still exist, you need to talk to the doctor who prescribed it if you disliked the side effects of the meds."

aerorock replied: "Don't stop zoloft cold turkey! You will probably get withdrawal symptoms. You should be starting to feel them now. Depression, anxiety, paranoia, electric jolts etc. You have to taper off SSRIs like zoloft-- even at a low dosage. I suggest you go to your doctor and let him/her know you want to go off the drug."

Zoloft - negative experiences and side effects - answer please!? i'm taking zoloft for 2 months (100 mg). 1 month ago i started feeling my body itching and feeling like scratching all the time, AND ALL around the body. It feels like i have needles pinching me! Then i was told by my doctor to decrease the dosage and i'm taking half pill each 2 days. The itching is a bit better, i still feel it though (its very annoying -_-'). But the major problem is that i am starting to feel.. weird! More tired, more unstable emotionally, more anxious, a lot of anger and wil to move myself, i can't stand still, can't concentrate and loosing motivation to work. Anyone who took or who is taking zoloft can tell me their experiences? Is this withdrawal effects what i am feeling?

vee replied: "you should check with docter you might have allergic reaction"

independent101 replied: "I took zoloft, and within a few months, i honestly thought i was going to hurt someone. I cut back the prescription to half and it didn't seem to help, i just got angry and mean. Your doc needs to change your medication. I tried paxil as well and it didn';t work. I finally found relief for my anxiety with celexa. I don;t know what you are taking the zoloft for, but it really sounds like you need a different prescription. Good luck!"

How long is too long to be taking 100mg of Zoloft daily? I have been taking this for about 3 and 1/2 years now. I want to be off it, but whenever I go a couple days without taking it, I get those horrible 'brain zaps', many, many times daily. I don't think I need it anymore (had it prescribed for PPD and anxiety disorder), but hate the thought of living indefinitely with the brain zaps and other disorientating side effects of withdrawal. Any advice would be appreciated.

ashliemouse replied: "Oh my gosh! You really shouldn't do that! I was only taking 50mg of Zoloft for three years, and you still have to be weaned off of it. Talk to your doctor and get lower dosage pills to slowly take yourself off. By the way, afterward I was scared I might become depressed again, but after a year I'm still fine. Good luck!"

S D replied: "break the pills in half and slowly wean your self off tapering the size of the pills down to nothing your best option would be to talk to your shrink and have him or her lower your dosage over time."

Zoloft withdrawal? I have been on Zoloft for several years. Does anyone know exactly what the side effects are when stopping it suddenly? I ran out of meds and will not be able to get more for over a week. I'm starting to feel a little strange, shaky and cloudy headed. Is this my imagination or am I having some sort of withdrawal? Should have mentioned the reason why I ran out of my drug. I'm a veteran, and the VA insists on mailing out med refills. This works o.k. as long as the meds show up in the mail in a timely manner. My refill was either lost in the mail or maybe even stolen out of my mailbox. Calling the VA to get a temporary supply until mine shows up is useless. They will not help except to reorder the drug, which of course, I have to wait 10 business days for. Things are worse for me now. I am very dizzy and feel feverish. I was on 100 mg. a day for about three years, so I know I'm having withdrawals. I could go to the VA emergency room, and wait 6-8 hours to be seen I suppose. Vets sure don't get good treatment sometimes, as my comrades from Iraq will find out when they come home.

Christine m replied: "It will remain in your system for several weeks. Unfortunately mind over manner is a fact of life. Try to not think about it - I know - easier said then done. After a couple of days you may not sleep as well - you might ask doctor if you can take something over the counter to help with sleep if absolutely necessary. Hang in there !"

bob shark replied: "It is not good to go off anti-depressant drugs without doctors approval, Why can't you get more pills for over a week? Go see your doctor, he may have samples you can have until you can afford to buy the drugs, but he should know that you have stopped taking them"

Tabatha replied: "All anti depressants should be stopped gradually over a period of weeks - it's not ideal to just suddenly have a break from taking them. Is there no way you can get more medicine? I think you should phone your prescribing doctor and explain the situation and see what he can do to help - the reason you're now feeling rather strange is because you've abruptly stopped taking the medicine. You might also be anxious over having stopped it, as you've no doubt heard/read about people having withdrawal symptoms. Try and get hold of more medicine, and cut it down gradually if you want to stop it."

no-ones-beezwax replied: "call your Dr. and tell him what is going on and you want be able to get a refill for a week and ask if they have any free samples at the office that you can come pick up. i have had the same problem in the past with my Zoloft and the Dr. will give me free samples as needed."

How long does it take to wear of the withdrawal symptoms of Xanax & Zoloft? Doc gave me zoloft cause I asked.? I am enaged to be married. I am getting married this month. I was a very happy person after I met my fiance. We were so much in love with each other. I would do anything for my fiance & give him my life. Last summer my fiance & I went to visit my sis who lives out of state. She doesn't like my fiance 1 bit. I didn't know about it until last November when I talk to her over the phone. My mom & all my relatives love him. He is the best thing ever happend to me. I got sick after my sis told me she didn't want to hurt my feelings but she didn't like him. So I got frequent periods after that. So I went to the doc & they gave me provera for 10 days. I got real bad side effects. So the doc gave me xanax & zoloft to get rid of my provera side effects. Ever since then I am going down hill. I am off of xanax & zoloft for 6 days now. Now I have symptoms of mania, I constantly think alot. My fiance is so supportive of me. I pray everyday. But I am sad I am putting him through this.

Jake C replied: "Sometimes an emotional triggered reaction can make an individual "sick". If your sister is making you feel this way, the first thing you need to understand is that you have the opportunity to create your own social surroundings. If she disproves of your life and your marriage, spend less time speaking with her and concentrate more on the flourishing of your new family. I was prescribed Xanax some years ago and when I went off of them, I had intense feelings of withdraw as well. They lastest for several months."

tomboytina2002 replied: "It takes about 6-8wks to withdraw, fully."

mark f replied: "The withdrawals from xanax can drag on for months and months and months before they settle down. You are coming off the worst drug. Read this page You should go back on and gradually reduce your dose. Stopping abruptly like that can make you go crazy."
