what is the best way to detox your body.? I am talking about everyday things we take into our body. Caffeine, nicotine, medication. I have heard of a lemon detox, aciberry or something like that. Someone suggested this black cherry liquid stuff. I bought it and i can add it to my drink and it tastes good. I got it in the vitamin section. But does any of this stuff really work. If so what works the best.

dave replied: "Bio-degradable compounds such as caffeine, nicotine, drugs etc are broken down by the body and expelled, normally within 24-48 hours. The only exception to this is some persistent man-made chemicals and metals such as cadmium and lead that can accumulate in organs such as the liver. There are NO methods that can shift these (despite what you have been told, there is not a shred of evidence for 'de-tox' products). Drinking water and keeping to a basic plain diet for 1-2 days is all you need to do to 'clear out your system'. Fruit extracts taste good and contain vitamins but are not a substitute for fresh fruit."

Joe F replied: "I agree with Dave. Detox really has no basis in science."

booklearned replied: "Stop putting crap into it and it will detox itself. Sauna has been proven to help the body rid itself of certain toxins. And Chelation is a Therapy that is used to remove the body of heavy metals. So to those who say there is no science behind detoxification ... well those people are just plain wrong. But the real way to detox is to understand what you are putting into your body. The liver and kidneys and skin are the primary organs of detoxification. You can't just take a supplement and expect it to "undo" all the damage you do to yourself with substances that are toxic to the body. And you'll need water to move things through the system."

wondering replied: "Your best way is to drink plenty of water and food. Force yourself, it will be hard the first 4or 5 days if it's heroin. If it is pill form like Roxy's, Oxycontin it will take a longer time and could come back to haunt you the 12 th till the 15th Day. Because they are long term release drugs. zanax are in the short release class. Long term drugs build up in joints and muscle also fats in your body.. They can cause you to go into withdraw again. They start to release again, now this doesn't happens to all people. Hot baths help with muscle aches and belly cramps. Stay hydrated. Drink PLENTY of water and eat plenty of food. Try to keep your mind on other things. It helps also to make sure you remain going to the bathroom regular.."

Billy M replied: "Your body does not need help detoxifying caffeine or nicotine. It will detoxify itself. It will, however, suffer permanent, dramatic ill effects if you continue to ingest caffeine, nicotine, marijuana, liquor or any other known poisons. There is no substance that can prevent the damage these poisons will do to you or reverse it once the damage is done."

Mmushi M replied: "BANANA"

KW097 replied: "you could try detox supplements but i would advise you to ask a doctor first and be careful about which ones you choose. I use nature cleanse which works well with my body but may work differently with other people. If you do decide to try it i would stick with one thats well known and has good rating like nature cleanse, or i also hear a lot of good about purity 12 you can read up some more an them here if you want to. hope this helps out."

How do I go about 'detoxing' my body? I am a morbidly obese 31 y/o mother of 2 small children. I have hypothyroidism and am unable to be treated with the conventional hormone therapies. I want to try radically changing my diet and have recently gone nearly meatless as I still eat chicken and seafood. Besides letting go almost completely of caffeine, sugar, and salt, what else can I do to detox my system and really cleanse myself to sort of re-start my metabolism? Are there any really good foods to aid me? And what about antioxidants? What are they good for? As you can see, I am really uneducated in this area of holistic foods.

thedevilsgarden replied: "I would suggest green tea, or slimming tea [i call them both green tea :P] you can get those at a local grocery store and they work wonders. It cleanses the system of toxins and it provides fast, temporary calorie burning. I have lost 2 pounds in one week just from having 2 cups of it but mostly I've noticed that i'm not as tired and my stomach, although not losing alot of weight, is still a flatter than what it was before. The longer you let the tea bag sit in the water, the more potent it is. It isn't alot, but every little bit counts. Good luck"

What is best way to detox body? I get chronic headaches and I have gotten to the point where I HAVE to take at least 5 Excedrin to get my headache gone. I drink caffeine constantly and my body is addicted to it to a point where I shake and get headaches in the morning. I heard about a way to detox your body by taking pills or drinking tea...does any one have any suggestions on how to do it?

Kelli (Himanot) replied: "I had to detox a few years ago. There are many options. They have detox pills or detox tea you can take that could help you. They also have other options you can find at the health food store. I chose to do it myself. I stopped eating red meat and pork, drank lots of water with lemon, ate lots of raw veggies and fruit and stopped eating junk food, fast foods, fried foods and products that contained caffeine. I did that for a week or two. Trust me...you will feel like a new person."

Back Porch Willy replied: "You could go on a fast. There are many types of fast, not just a total water fast. I would not recommend a water fast for anyone new to fasting. Try a one week "Daniel Fast" for starters. A "Daniel Fast" is one in which you abstain from rich foods and strong drink, instead consuming only raw fruit and vegitables, prefering organic if possiable. You need to do some research on this before starting, there is a recommended way to prepare for and end a fast of any type. Hope this helps Back Porch Willie"

Have you ever tried to detox your body through fasting? Just curious if anyone has any "real" knowledge about detoxifying their body through fasting. I am addicted to coffee/caffeine, sweets, processed foods. I constantly feel sluggish, no energy. Was considering a cleansing program of some sort and would be interested to hear from those who might have some first hand knowledge or experience.

mo_fyah89 replied: "yeah its not really a good idea, it can cause alot of problems and side effects like nausia/weight increase. If you fast your body goes into emergency mode where it stores all the fats it can. Water is the best detox for your body and switch your sweets for fruit. Plenty of fruit and fibre!"

straighthealth18 replied: "Everyone keeps talking about detoxifying the body but what does that actually mean? If you stop eating, toxins will actually start to build up in your body. The right way of getting rid of these toxins is to eat whole grain, unprocessed, fresh foods. Eat organic fruits, meats and vegetables and you'll be a lot better off than doing a rediculous detoxifying diet. Beginner's Guide to Dieting -"

tre_132mp replied: "If you have never fasted before. You should try to fast for 12 hours out of the day for 5 days in a row. then when you go back to eating all day you should eat all natural foods meaning, no processed foods. do that far another seven days then fast for 36 hours. During the 36 hour fast drink plenty of water. then when you come off the second part of the fast eat all clean foods again meaning no processed foods. IF IT DOESNT GROW DONT EAT IT"

SexualBeing_2008 replied: "You can detox your body cheaply just by drinking plenty of water. There's also a great detox program where you soak your feet in this solution and 30- 45min later its cleaning all the detoxins out of your body through your feet. I thought that was pretty cool and it works!"

How to detox my body? I feel like my body is filled with bad things, like sugar, caffeine, candy, etc. How could I make my body detoxify all this stuff?

Charlie Chaplin replied: "There's a pill called Detox at Walgreen. People usually take it prior drug test. I guess it can also cleanse your body of sugar and caffeine. The only bad affect the detox pill do to you is give you red itchy rashes over your body, for a few hours or so. Another way is to drink a lot of water or cranberry juice."

chelle replied: "There are a number of detox programs out there, many of which include fiber supplements and teas. You can try by starting an organic only fast. For two weeks drink only purified water, organic foods, no caffeine or refined sugars. It is amazing how much energy you have when you stay away from processed foods."

Britt replied: "Seriously don't worry... the human body does a pretty good job of "detoxifying" itself. The best thing is to eat right, exercise, etc to detoxify. This has to be done the rest of your life. Pills are typically just things that make you get rid of water (ie diuretics) and cause you to urinate more. Which doesn't necessarily get rid of "bad things". Balance your intake is the best way. I promise. However, I'm sure you want some kind of answer soooo. Herbal remedies in the forms of teas are GREAT. They can help the body improve it's organ functioning, which is why we detox. Anything that stimulates and improves liver functioning (Milk Thistle) b/c the liver is where the body naturally detoxifies. So don't have a high intake of alcohol. Anything that improves Gastrointestinal functioning, blood circulation (Omega 3 Fatty Acids), and can help reduce stress levels (St Johns Wart, Chamomile). Eating foods high in fibers will help clear out build up of the GI tract. Research herbal forms of treatment. Massage can also help the body get rid of toxins because it will improve circulation. As well as heat on your muscles; or just warming them through exercise. Many foods contain antioxidant compounds...Dark Chocolate, Cayenne Pepper, certain proteins, etc."

want to know badly (about detoxing) ? This question has been bothering me. If I drink black iced coffee is that a way to detox? It feels detoxing but I know it has caffeine. Is caffeine bad for your body?

Doc replied: "Caffeine can cause so many things, I will just say hypertension, palpitations or arrythmia, indigestion and painful joints. There is no detox, other than to drink 6 - 8 full glasses of water per day. Also, cranberry juice."

Ed K replied: "cranberry juice and water good advice. also need to rethink concept of detox. I think we detox all the time. (Ongoing process not something we should stop to do) and this we do by eating as much natrual foods as possible (raw veges and fruit)"

Has Anyone Tried a Toxin Detox of Any Sort? Diet, FootPads, etc.? I have heard/ read our body has it's own ability to detox itself of the toxins in our body. But others say, with the typical american diet our body needs to be detoxed occasionally. THOUGHTS?? or Experience with either? Is it possible to do a diet detox in order to help you get on a better eating lifestyle? As in detox your body of processed junk, sugar, caffeine, etc. In order to make eating a cleaner diet easier?

Rachel replied: "I've done the master cleanse which is a pretty common cleanse. You can find a lot of information about it online. It made me feel a lot healthier and more energenic after it was over. It helped me stop eating unhealthy food and also decreased my snacking. People just need to remember that doing a cleanse isn't to lose weight!"

Samuel S replied: "the only thing i no thats proven to work is "wheatgrass" go one week on only wheatgrass shots and water......talk to Dr. first and resurch on web, but you'll like the results. I get my WG shots from "JAMBA JUICE" here in washington. hope this helps"

Any scientologists out there? I was wondering how much and how long will it take me to detox my body from caffeine? I am addicted to coffee and I've tried to go without coffee for a day...I'm going through withdrawals; as if I were a crack addict...headaches, shaking, chills! I know this is not psychosomatic or some PTS causing this, because there is nothing afflicting my life right now. This just something I want to learn to let go, eventhough coffee is good for you, but I hate being co-dependent on something like coffee! Got any ideas? I also go to the steam room/sauna to detox my skin. Cleansing could be another option. Coffee IS good for you, but in moderation. Some scientologist have to through detox when dealing with drug problems. oops, some scientologists. No thumbs-down please! LOL! I know, these Poop heads!

Darragh C replied: "Dude, coffee is NOT good for you, in ANY way."

Jem replied: "what does Scientology have to do with detoxing? Anyway I detox/cleanse all the time with 2 tsp of sea salt and a quart of lukewarm water. It usually starts to work within an hour. oh...never really cared much for religion. how dare someone thumbs down me! poop head"

Chris h replied: "I think you need to contact Tom Cruise he is the best out there for the help you are looking for. Just remember he is the only one who is aloud to jump on couches. God be with you"

non_offensive_nickname replied: "Your best bet is to detoxify your mind from these nutbags (Scientologists) and give up caffeine slowly and on your own....unless you actually believe that are full of lost alien souls who are cluttering up our consciousness and all chances for happiness...in that case, I suggest you get yourself into some cult deprogramming."

How Does Water Detox the Body? I'm consuming plenty of water a day and I'm really noticing the benefits. But I'm also doing other things like eating veggies and fruits for my main diet. I used to be HUGELY addicted to sugar, salt, caffeine, etc. I was once able to eat 2 Large French Fries a day! I've lost almost 30lbs just cutting the crap out. I want to know the exact benefits of water and how it works in your system. I do pee alot and am wondering if that's good or bad. How does it help metabolism, liver, etc?

Amy ♥♥♥ replied: "Well I don't exactly know how it detoxs the body but that's probably something you can look up on google or some other search engine. And I don't know what it does to your live but I do know that it helps to speed up your metabolism so you burn calories quicker. Sorry I'm not very helpful."

rachel replied: "When you go to the bathroom, youre ridding your body of toxins, if you dont drink enough, you dont pee, so you dont rid your body of those toxins. So drinking alot aids in doing that."

JoyntHeir replied: "Actually, you are doing more to detox your body than you think. First, you have quit putting in more toxins. Second, you are eating the fruits and vegetables that give your body the nutrients it needs plus the fiber it needs. You can drink too much water. 64 ounces a day is the recommended amount. If you drink 64 ounces a day, you immune system will work better, you bladder and kidneys will stay healthy, and you will not become dehydrated. If you feel you are peeing too much, visit your doctor. Excessive peeing can be a symptom of diabetes or pre-diabetes. It sounds like your body is getting rid of the excess water the salt and caffeine made it hold, but only you know if the peeing is a cause of concern to you. I have a post 'Water - Our Friend or Our Enemy?' on my blog Be The Weight You Want. It goes into the type of water you drink and the benefits of water."

i drink alot of coffee and energy drinks, when i first started drinking it, it would keep me awake...? now, as i have been drinking so much, i think my body is used to the effects of it, so it seems like it has no effects, just like drinking water. if i was to do a detox and cut out caffeine, how long would it take for my body to feel a buzz from caffeine?

stevepitt2 replied: "About 1 week. If your body is really used to the caffeine you may get headaches for a few days when you first cut the caffeine out."

Frank replied: "You've built up a resistance to the effects of caffeine. Slowly lessen the amount you consume, until you're not taking any. You get fewer (if any) headaches. The more caffeine you're used to, the more severe the headaches, if you completely stop taking caffeine all at once. I drink fresh brewed tea ( less than half the caffeine of coffee). When I need an extra kick, I'll drink coffee."

morning_star_seeker replied: "I think your full of fluff, seriously, that one can of Red Bull and the Caffeine infused bottled water you drink isn't going to make you that 'buzzed'."

Terence replied: "I think there is no one answer to that question. The rate of metabolism is individual and the condition of bladder, kidneys and liver, would have a place in the matter, but normally, the normal ( one and a half liters of water per day--not less.) I would think it would take a week t ten days, depending on resistant or competitive forces."

CW replied: "Stop drinking the coffee and energy drinks. You will go through Withdrawal. Switch to fruits. Apples, Oranges and Bananas will give you SO much more energy naturally! Trust me! I have always had ZERO energy my whole life and those energy drinks didn't work after a while for me either. But those fruits give the body so much natural energy, its crazy. It's way better than energy drinks. Try it, you have nothing to loose!"

Me replied: "I had the exact same problem. I'd been drinking coffee for 5 years now, but I went for a month travelling, thus not drinking coffee. When I had my first cup of coffee after that, I felt like I would never get tired again :) My advise is to cut caffiene slowly, and drink lots of water so you don't get a headahake. Then after a week or two, go back on caffiene full force. Trust me you will feel a make you so buzzed you won't be able to sleep for a year. jokes The first week not having caffiene is the hardest. You always have that urge to drink coffee. I drink lemon water which helps detoxify the body. You can drink herbal teas if you start craving a hot drink. Try decaf coffee, but keep in mind that decaf coffee still has some caffiene. Good luck, I feel your pain :D"

Jackie replied: "Hello Blondie, It might take quite a while and it really depends on an individual. What I would suggest is to reduce drinking coffee and start exercising a bit. Fresh air will do you good, believe me. I started just simply walking and feel much much better and stronger."

Pooks replied: "do the 12-step program with the caffeine...'nuf said..."

you me and i replied: "sometimes straight away but sometimes it takes about half an hour to an hour."

David replied: "As I have already tried this, I would have to say that the effects tend to last as others have said also, about one week and you may get headaches and become sluggish during that period. Don't worry though as it go away and then you may resume consumption, but try it in moderation."
