tracodone, klonopin, hydromorphone, cymbalta....? in what circumstance would someone need to take tracodone, carisoprool, cymbalta, klonopin, hyrodromorphone, and pronethazine all at the same time? I think my mother-in-law has a problem, but her doctors are quacks. Can anyone shed any light on these drugs? Thank you in advance.

SharonW replied: "Trazodone (Desyrel) is an antidepressant used for depression and other mood/ mental disorders. If this med is prescribed for night dosing then it is probably being used for insomnia. Carisoprol (Soma) is a central-acting muscle relaxant-works on nerves to relieve muscle pain. May also calm nervousness-can cause dependency and should not be suddenly stopped. Cymbalta is an antidepressant prescribed for depression or other mood/mental disorders. Klonopin is a benzodiazapene with similar properties of Xanax but milder. Prescribed for anxiety. Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) is an opiate derivative that works on certain brain centers to relieve pain. Not thought to be habit forming. Promethazine (Phenegren) is prescribed for nausea/vomiting. Can be taken regular to control nausea-like symptoms. Looking at this med list I would think your mother-in-law is a nervous type person suffering daily with anxiety attacks, is depressed, has difficulty sleeping, has chronic pain of unknown origin, possibly in the back or leg region with muscle involvement. The combination of meds causes queasiness thereby the promethazine is prescribed. I hope this info helps."

cymbalta - anxiety / stomach problems? I have been on Cymbalta along with klonopin (as needed) for a good 4-5 months now. I love how it has taken my anxiety away. But I have been experiancing belching/ indigestion / mild stomach pain/ stomach gurgling for about the last 3 months. I have gotten an abodomen ultra sound and a fluorscopy looking at my digestive track. Everything was fine. I am trying to figure out if this coud be do to Cymbalta?? My phych said this was caused by my anxiety and has actually upped my dose to 60 mg. This was done about a week ago. I have not seen any of the symptoms fade yet. Anyone else have this??? The constant bubbles in my chest are quite annoying!

Starkissed replied: "I had HORRIBLE stomach pain when I was taking Cymalta. The pain even lasted for over a week after I stopped taking the meds. But, if the pain didn't start right after you started one of the meds then that might not be the cause of your pains. Have you tried taking anything to relieve your bubbles? If not, mention it to your primary doctor and see what they think."

Klonopin while pregnant.? I have been on antidepressants and meds for anxiety for 10 years. The latest meds I was on was Cymbalta and .5mg of klonopin when I needed it. Well as soon as I found out I was pregnant I called my doctor who prescribed it and started to go off of the cymbalta slowly. I went off of the Klonopin completely right away, because I only took it once a week or less. My question is....has anyone here ever taken Klonopin while pregnant? I ended up having to take one last Tuesday night, I was having a pretty bad anxiety attack. I don't get in to see my doctor and ask him till Oct. 6th but in the mean time if I need one, is it an ok thing to do? Or to dangerous. I seriously only would take it if I absolutely would need it. And by my understanding it is safer to take one then to put the baby through that stress of having me flip out. I will be 14 weeks pregnant tomorrow, so that means the 2nd trimester.

indiechick replied: "No, anxiety meds aren't safe during pregnancy. I know someone whose child has low muscle tone and it was related to anxiety meds that she took during pregnancy. I do have a suggestion though, I had horrible anxiety for a number of years and it turned out to be a reaction to gluten. I know it sounds crazy, but the majority of the serotonin in your body is located in your intestines so if they're damaged in some way it can't use it. My anxiety was gone in like 2-3 days on the diet. 1 in 100 people have celiac disease (gluten intolerance), so it's super common. Give the diet a try to see if you react to it. Let me know if you have any questions."

what are the side effects of taking to many psychological drugs? I'm on prozac, cymbalta, seroquel and klonopin I wondering if I'm on to much

amber m replied: "As long as the same doctor prescribed all of them and knows you are taking them all and haven't stopped any it should be fine to be on all of them."

jeff_iversen@sbcglobal.net replied: "If you are wondering if you are taking too many drugs, you probably are. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Doctors Are The Third Leading Cause of Death in the US, Causing 225,000 Deaths Every Year. 106,000 of those deaths are from non-error, negative effects of legally prescribed drugs. Click on the link below to learn why Prozac, the bestselling antidepressant taken by 40 million people worldwide, does not work and nor do similar drugs in the same class. It might work for those who are severely depressed but not on the majority of the people who are now taking it. There are many natural ways to treat depression. These should be tried long before drugs become an option. The withdrawal symptoms for anti depressants are almost worse than the depression itself. Now, let's look at some of the side effects of Prozac and the others. Make sure you ask your doctor or psychiatrist about these. * The FDA requires all antidepressants, including fluoxetine, to carry a black box warning stating that antidepressants may increase the risk of suicide in persons younger than 25. * nausea (22% vs 9% for placebo) * insomnia (19% vs 10% for placebo) * somnolence (12% vs 5% for placebo) * anorexia (10% vs 3% for placebo) * anxiety (12% vs 6% for placebo) * nervousness (13% vs 8% for placebo) * asthenia (11% vs 6% for placebo) * tremor (9% vs 2% for placebo) * rash or urticaria * Akathisia or inner tension, restlessness * Acute dystonia and tardive dyskinesia - movement disorders * sexual dysfunction, anorgasmia, reduced libido and impotence. It is most likely that you might have to take other drugs just to counteract the side effects of Prozac. Click links below (The Drugs I Need and Ray Needs Energy) to see a comical parody of this kind of situation."

invisible girl replied: "Your doctor wouldnt have prescribed you your medication if it was too much, or a harmful combination. If you read the little leaflet that comes inside boxes of new drugs, it will have a list of all *potential* side effects including psychological/nervous system ones. For example, Im on Prozac to and I know nervousness, unusual excitment etc are listed. Some anti-psychotics can cause lasting side effects like drooling, restlessness etc. If you are concerned about this then perhaps you should ask your dr for a drug to counteract side effects. I think its a positive thing that you're cautious about the amount of medication you're on though. Meds only play a part in recovery. You have to do a lot of work for yourself on the way you think and cope with things. Talking therapies, a good diet, excercising etc are all things that help. Perhaps hopefully in time you will be able to reduce the amount of medication you're on. Good luck"

How do you wean off meds? I am on Cymbalta, resiperdal, klonopin. I don't want to be on any of them. I asked my Dr. for help but he said for me to do it myself. I don't want to get sick. What should I do? I cannot afford to go to another Dr.

imyomommafool replied: "I was addicted to pain pills for 4 years. I just quit cold turkey in July. I had diarrhea for about a week and the rest is mental. It's not as hard as you think it might be. You just have to be strong."

C R replied: "I am appalled that he would tell you to do it yourself! Ask your pharmacist. He or she should tell you if there will be side effects to doing it "cold turkey.""

Catherine K replied: "You must not wean yourself off your meds without medical advice. The doctor who told you to do it yourself should be reported to the state licensing board. Call the makers of all 3 drugs...ask to speak with a pharmacist and see if they can advise you of the risks/dangers and dose reduction schedule. Clearly, there is a reason that you are taking all of these medications. There can be really serious medical and psychological ramifications to just stopping, or stopping without medical guidance. If the prescribing doctor will not help, contact another doctor. Find a way to afford it."

Barbara L replied: "You really should get professional help to wean yourself off these types of med. All of them need to be decreased gradually. I would only decrease one at a time. This way if something goes wrong, you will know what drug is causing the problem. Also, which drug was the first one you were put on? the last? Cymbalta is for depression. Be aware of suicidal thoughts and get help immediately. Some docs just pile on the drugs. A lot can be said for 'talk' therapy and counseling. Good luck. Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if you have any type of withdrawal."

Klonopin withdrawl! help!!!? Im currently trying to taper off klonopin. Ive been on 3mg a day for a year and then recenlty went to 4mg's per day for about 3 months. I then tried to quit cold turkey and had horrible problems, afraid to sleep because I would wake up totally unable to move and didnt know where I was. Also uncontrollable shakes and twitches would happen, plus a general feeling of a 24 hour panic attack, so I had to start taking 4mg a day again. So, recently I went to see my doctor, he put me on Cymbalta which I had been on before, and wants me to taper off of klonopin and just stay on Cymbalta. I first cut to three mgs for one week then 2 for about 4 days. then I went to .5 in the morning and .5 just a few days ago, thats when the problems start, fear of going to sleep, just craziness, chills, vomiting. so i went back on 2mg per day because I cant take it.ANy help info please, Ive come off other anti drugs before even cold turkey, but when I get to .5 on this, its really bad. well im on cymbalta now as I try to come off klonopin. The scary effects have never happened before until I took klonopin and tried to come off. the thing that is startling though is that I had been on klonopin before for about 6 months a year back and came off it with no problems. then switched to ativan. Now coming off of it the scary sh!t starts happening. I had been off just recently for three weeks and the symptoms never went away. Does anyone know what that would be associated with. the complete confusion in familiar surroundings, paranoia, waking up in the night unable to move? that has never happened to me before thats the scary part, I detoxed off effexor cold turkey and that didnt happen. just flu symptoms.

versantly replied: "call your doctor or go to the ER now!"

the crusader replied: "Is there a reason why your doctor wants you off of this medication so badly? Perhaps you need to be on it. Not necessarily 4 mg per day (that's a little high). You need to talk to your doctor about this."

rockstarprincess replied: "all normal side effect of coming off Klonapins...from 4mg he should have gone to 2 to one ...you cant go back and forth.its you need to stop taking the klonopin all together and start taking an anti anxiety medication, this will help u sleep and relax."

kcmesa replied: "You need another MD to help you!! I am a registered nurse and if you are having these types of problems...you need another doc...NOW!!!Go to this website and look up Klonopin withdrawl symptoms. Good Luck ...I feel for you...I had similar s/s coming off of Effexor...It was H#@@"

Kate S replied: "You did too big a jump too fast- take 1 mg morning and evening for a full week- then take .5 in the morning for another week or even 10 days with 1 mg at bedtime. Then try the .5 mg twice a day. Benzodiaezapines (Klonopin) are addictive so you need to taper off slowly and let your body get used to the change."

vicscavies replied: "How to Reduce the Medication The ideal sequence: 1. Have your physician write a prescription to accommodate a 2% reduction. You will need to use a compounding pharmacy to fill this prescription. 2. Only reduce the medication by 2% every 14 days. 3. Never skip days. 4. Always take the medication at the same time each day. 5. If you take your medication more than one time each day, make sure the total reduction of the medication is no more than 2% of the daily total taken. You continue to take the nutritionals at the same amount that you established during the pre-taper while reducing the medication. You continue to take the nutritionals for 45 days after you took the last dosage of your medication. The above is the ideal taper. It can happen and does happen continually for people using The Road Back Program. What to Do if Side Effects Begin During the Taper Do the following in sequence: 1. Review your Daily Journal. The odds are extremely high you changed something between the day you began to feel poorly and 3 days earlier. Look for any changes. Did you change the time of the day you took your medication, nutritionals, begin exercising, go on a diet etc. With you already responding well to the nutritionals in the pre-taper, the odds are extremely high it will be from some change you made just before you felt the negative change. Once you locate the change, return to exactly what you were doing and give it 3 days to return back to normal again. If you do not locate any changes to your daily routine, move on to # 2 below. 2. With these medications it will probably be a change in anxiety level or sleep. Sometimes anxiety and the time of the day it begins will shift on you. You should have made notes in the Daily Journal what time of the day the anxiety started. Take the Body Calm and Essential Protein ½ hour to 1 hour before this new anxiety is starting. This should handle the problem. 3. If # 2 above did not resolve the issue, increase the Essential Protein Formula by 1 teaspoon each time you take it. 4. If # 3 did not resolve the problem and what you are feeling is too much to even stand, get with your physician and discuss going back to the last dosage of the medication you were at and remain at that old dosage until the side effects stop once again. This step is rarely ever needed. 5. If you needed to use # 4 above, the next time you reduce the medication stay at that new dosage amount for 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks. If you were reducing the medication by more than 2% each week and you have tried #’s 1-3 above and did not get relief, get with your physician and discuss reducing the medication by 2% from here on out. You should stop reducing the medication further until you have eliminated the withdrawal side effects. Do not begin to reduce the medication again until you are feeling very stable. -Don’t change anything so long as you’re feeling better and experiencing progress! Keep one additional thing in mind while tapering off the medication: Sometimes all of us may have anxiety during the day and a rough nights sleep. If you have a rough day it may not be the medication is the cause. If a negative feeling last more than 3 days it is probably something that has changed and is related to the taper unless it is a life related event. A few don’ts: Don’t change your diet! Don’t add exercise to your regimen! Don’t double or triple or change any amount of Nutritional you’re taking! Don’t change your sleep or rest schedule! Don’t change physicians! Don’t try another program! Don’t add another program to this one! Don’t take out parts of this program! CHANGE NOTHING (except your clothes, of course…). The rule here is if it works, don’t fix it. Continue your reduction schedule. Take your Nutritionals. -Continue to maintain the levels of Nutritionals you were at, when you reached the end of the pre-taper: DO WHAT’S WORKING. This is the simplicity of the Road Back. If you do not use a compounding pharmacy to reduce your medication The other options of reducing the medication are: Use the reduction schedule located in this book. If we did not include a reduction schedule for the exact medication you are taking or the current dosage you are taking, print out a copy of any reduction schedule for the type of medication you are taking and show it to your physician and pharmacist. They can use this as a guideline or an example to structure a reduction schedule for your particular medication or dosage. The other option you have is to shave a little off the medication each day. This is not a recommended choice of The Road Back Program. ONCE YOU ARE OFF THE MEDICATION Stay at the level of nutritionals you are at for the next 45 days. It is important you now rebuild your body. After the 45 days, you can decide what you want to do with the Nutritionals. We all need Omega 3 in our body. It needs to come from a food source or from supplemental Omega 3 oil. Usually one or two of the Ultimate Omega 3’s each day is plenty for a maintenance amount. If you enjoy the Power Barley Formula and other Nutritionals, it is very fine to keep taking them for a prolonged period. They are great for general health. Once you know your sleep is handled, you might try taking the Body Calm and Essential Protein Formula on a need to basis. If you have been off the medication for months and you begin to feel tired again, try taking a little of the Power Barley Formula once again. All of us get fatigue from time to time when we are living life at a rapid pace. This fatigue does not mean it is a side effect from when you took the medication."

Josh C replied: "I know alot about drug abuse and rehab, and i've heard over and over that benzo's are one of the hardest things to detox off of, and Klonepan is like the number one benzo that people have problems with. You were undoubtably prescribed Klonepan for anxiety, which is coming back in spades as you are having withdrawel, it must be horrible. I hope you get in a good place with your medications"

jacko replied: "Read page 2, and see panic attack treatments at on page 8."

erin.savage replied: "Weening of Klonopin needs to be done very slowly. The withdrawal can cause seizures and other severe complications. Talk to your doctor again and tell him about your withdrawal symptoms. The shaking and twitching is a precursor to seizures. If you are on 2mg per day stay at that for a week or so. Then do 1.5 then 1 then .5. I know it will take longer than you hoped but this is the safe way to do it. is my personal addiction site where I talk about my klonopin addiction, and my recovery."

What is the best new medication for depression, social anxiety? I have taken seroquel, paxil, zoloft, prozac, risperadol, xanax, klonopin, remeron, wellbutrin, effexor..... None have really seemed to work. I'm thinking about trying valium or cymbalta because my anxiety makes my body tense up.

mary replied: "Mood stabilizers have been proven to be of more use. They worked for me. Don't take valium and those mind altering drugs. Mood stabilizers work to make you alert happy more normal than the mind altering drug. Welbrutrin is on of many, you need to take perhaps another one. Ask your doctor. Valiums and such are habit forming. If you are bi-polar a good one is abilify. Good luck, Mary"

countess almasy replied: "This is a very, VERY individual thing... no one has the exact same body chemistry as you, and noone can help you but a doctor. GO SEE ONE NOW."

aninvova replied: "The best of all medications for depressions, that was, is, and always will be is Jesus Christ. Don't laugh, it's serious. just believe in Jesus Christ. repent, ask Him to forgive you and save you. and then you can ask Him to fill your heart with Joy, Peace and Love. thanks for your time :) with God's Love"

Why would antidepressants not be working for me? I've been diagnosed with OCD, GAD, and SAD. I've been on Lexapro, Zoloft, Prozac, and Cymbalta, as well as Seroquel and Abilify and Klonopin and Xanax. None of these medications have worked for me? My issues are debilitating. What the fuck is wrong with me?

i ♥ hershey ♥♥♥♥♥ replied: "maybe you need to be admitted & some full work ups & tests be run on you♦"

orchid love replied: "I'm surprised Klonopin and Xanax dont work, they are much more "universal" than antidepressants. the dose was probably too low as with those medications i'm certain anyone would feel something if they'd had a reasonable amount, especially early in treatment. Switch class to tricylics or MAOIs, or even other antidepressants that arent classifiable like trazodone and remeron (mirtazapine). there are lots out there, i found switching from SSRIs like Prozac to trazodone to be very helpful. mostly because it was a choice that matched my symptoms like agitation, anxiety, sleeplessness."

Karen A replied: "Because antidepressants don't do anything for anyone long term. People like to think they work, but they only do damage to your body in the long run. It sucks being miserable...i am too. Good luck."

Men taking Lexapro or Cymbalta: Counteract sexual side effects?? I quit taking both Lexapro and Cymbalta (st separate times), because I need meds full time and was tired of sexual side effects. Now I am so depressed and anxious without them (I switched to Wellbutrin and Klonopin combination; it is not working!) What about hormone therapy or any advice that helps sex life to be satisfactory? Thanks guys!!

causes night time depression and suicide? what is causing me to have night time depression and suicidal thought then? i start to cry at nite and think i am worthless piece of sh*t, etc. i have been on meds like cymbalta and klonopin for anxiety and am type 2 diabetes. my depression and hopelessness seem worse at night. i have tell my therapist but she brushes it off. i want to know what is the cause of this. this morning i feel refreshed not like last night ty....

birdgirl123 replied: "You have very low self esteem for starters...you could have a medical problem with your diabetes as well. Best start by seeing your regular physician to determine if there is a medical cause for your feeling worse at night. You may need to have some type of adjustment in your medication for diabetes made that could help you to feel at least a little better at night. It seems like the medications you've tried for anxiety/depression haven't worked for you. That doesn't mean others might not be better, so ask the doctor to try something different as well. Most of all, you need to work on how you feel about yourself, as nothing will help you more than to stop feeling/seeing yourself as a piece of crap, as your screen name so suggests. If you're not getting what you need from your current therapist, find another or better yet, try a group therapy program. Bouncing ideas around with others who have the same type of feelings as you do often times helps to resolve a lot of problems. Good Luck."

Iria replied: "Lots of people find their depression is worse at night, the dark is depressing for lots of people! A light box, which is designed for seasonal affective disorder may help to keep your mood from dipping in the evenings. If you're therapist isn't taking your problem seriously, then speak to your doctor about this issue and see if he/she has any suggestions for you. You may need to have your medication adjusted so the symptoms of your depression are relieved to a greater extent. If you know that you get low at night time, then you should take extra efforts to occupy yourself. You could spend more time with friends so you're not alone with your thoughts, or go to the gym as excercise will help your mood. Listen to music that cheers you up and have a supply of books to escape into! Take care."
