Dianamite replied: "My doctor prescribed it for me, but it didn't really work that well. I guess it really does for some people, but not for me. I had much better results from Acne Free (similar to ProActive). Of course, it depends on your individual skin."
artrenery replied: "Topical cleocin does work well on facial bacteria however cleocin capsules are a little rough on the GI tract and are generally prescribed orally for people with a lot of allergies or either an infection that is needing multiple therapies or has not responded to more commonly used antibiotics."
How many days should it take for a vaginal discharge to go away after using Cleocin suppositories? I finished a three day round of Cleocin vaginal suppositories three nights ago and am still having a heavy discharge. Should it be clearing up by now?
SAMD010 replied: "Well, I wouldn't have sex with Jr. yet . . . But it should probably take anywhere from 3-5 days waiting period . . ."
How can I make Cleocin Pediatric taste better? My 4 year old son is having to take this medicine and throws up every time I try to give him a dose. It smells like a litter box and tastes even worse! I have tried vanilla extract, putting it in jucie and soda..is there any way to mask this med?
tranquil replied: "Give him some ice cream to numb his taste buds. Then give the medication."
What are the dangers of taking Cleocin? My doctor wants me to take 1200 mgs of Cleocin a day, I do not have problems with acne, and am wondering about any dangers of this. The doctor says this is a cure-all drug, and crosses the blood/brain barrier very well.
I'm just looking for some information, please.
Thank you
chip_p replied: "Any time you get a pharmaceutical product, you can ask your pharmacist for patient information as well as the product insert (PI). The PI will have a detailed description of what the drug is and how it works along with possible side effects.
The generic name for oral Cleocin is clindamycin. Here is a Boxed Warning on that product:
Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with nearly all antibacterial agents, including clindamycin, and may range in severity from mild to life-threatening. Therefore, it is important to consider this diagnosis in patients who present with diarrhea subsequent to the administration of antibacterial agents.
Then beyond the warning box there are these side effects. In newer drugs, they will list the clinical trial data with the rate at which these events happened in the registration study:
The following reactions have been reported with the use of clindamycin.
Gastrointestinal: Abdominal pain, pseudomembranous colitis, esophagitis, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea (see WARNING BOX). The onset of pseudomembranous colitis symptoms may occur during or after antibacterial treatment (see WARNINGS).
Hypersensitivity Reactions: Generalized mild to moderate morbilliform-like (maculopapular) skin rashes are the most frequently reported adverse reactions. Vesiculobullous rashes, as well as urticaria, have been observed during drug therapy. Rare instances of erythema multiforme, some resembling Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and a few cases of anaphylactoid reactions have also been reported.
Skin and Mucous Membranes: Pruritus, vaginitis, and rare instances of exfoliative dermatitis have been reported. (See Hypersensitivity Reactions.)
Liver: Jaundice and abnormalities in liver function tests have been observed during clindamycin therapy.
Renal: Although no direct relationship of clindamycin to renal damage has been established, renal dysfunction as evidenced by azotemia, oliguria, and/or proteinuria has been observed in rare instances.
Hematopoietic: Transient neutropenia (leukopenia) and eosinophilia have been reported. Reports of agranulocytosis and thrombocytopenia have been made. No direct etiologic relationship to concurrent clindamycin therapy could be made in any of the foregoing.
Musculoskeletal: Rare instances of polyarthritis have been reported."
Has anyone had to take Cleocin during first trimester ? I went to the doctor on yesterday, and it seems that I am 7 weeks pregnant and I have a bacteria infection also. I was given a prescription for cleocin. All the research shows that I should not take this medication during the beginning months of pregnancy. Has anyone else taken this or been prescribed this medication?
smiley1 replied: "this med is used ti treat bacteria vaginitis and has nothing to do with pregnancy it is widely used on all pregnant women who have this bacteria it is common you can google cleocin they have a website on yahoo plenty to read on"
I started taking cleocin vaginal cream. Is it all suppose to come out in the morning? I put it in last night before bed at like 10pm I got up once at 4am then went back to bed and woke up at 8am and it seems to all be coming out is it suppose to be like that?Did any of it get absorbed or anything?Has anyone else had this feeling? Did it work for you?Thank you so much I have just had BV for a week and want it go away please help me know if this is normal
Lauren (♥ Erin's mummy ♥) replied: "this is normal, there isnt really anywhere for it to go. enough of it will have been absorbed/coated enough to do the job but because there is too much inserted to be absorbed then it naturally has to come out. just think about when you have your period, that isnt absorbed by your body is it? the only place for it to go is out, also when you have intercourse, most of the semen comes back out
hope this has helped a little x"
