Anxiety Seroquel in Answers
Has anyone taken seroquel and expereienced and increase in racing thoughts and anxiety? I take a low dosage of seroquel and clonasapam for anxiety/panic attacks, racing thoughts, restlessness and more. i take 25mg seroquel at night, it knocks me out quickly, sometimes it doesnt. when it doesnt knock me out, the next day i feel an unbearable increase in anxiety, racing thoughts, restlessness/pacing, unbearable to the point of yelling for no reason. just wondering if anyone eles has experienced this

Maggie replied: "I had that all the time, so bad that i HAD to get off of that med. I would suggest getting off of it if it is making you feel worse. It can really have bad effects on ppl. Good luck"

Tonia replied: "I'm sorry..I take 900mg of seroquel and I get nothing from it. It doesn't even help wiht my hallucinations. It is just another pill I take in the evening because some doctor decided I wasn't in my right mind enough to judge whether or not the med was working. I'd suggest you tell your doc that you are feeling restless...when I was on risperdal and it made me feel this way they put me on cogentin...maybe you asked to try that...it really helps with those restless thoughs and movements...the only draw back is that it causes major dry mouth...but sometimes the effect of the pill out weighs the side effects. Good Luck"

If you have been on Seroquel do you know a alternative med for anxiety without the weight gain? I have been on Seroquel for a few years now it works for my anxiety but has caused me to gain ALOT of weight. My Doctor doesn't seem to know of anything else that will not make me gain weight. I want to lose at least 50 lbs or more.

pedro replied: "Your situation is more common than one may suspect. Lots of the most prescribed pharmaceuticals have 'side effects' worse than the ailment they are designed to treat. But lithium is one treatment, not for everyone. Depakote and Zyprexa are another treatment option. These may also contribute to weight gain. Topiramate plus another or a couple other meds may be your ticket. good luck."

cerealkiller_1970 replied: "Neurontin (gabapentin) works well for anxiety and is supposedly weight neutral. but I cannot speak to the truth in this or not."

Dee replied: "I can speak for Neurontin. It is the best anti anxiety drug that is not a benzo (highly addicting). I have no side effects at all. Good luck and take care of you, Dee"

At what dose does Seroquel alleviate Anxiety? Seroquel is supposed to help control or reduce ANXIETY. I'm taking 150mg daily. At what dose should Seroquel start to alleviate the anxiety that I'm constantly feeling? My Doctor doesn't want to prescribe another medicine except ativan as needed, but the anxiety is constant, I don't want to become dependent on Ativan. I started taking Seroquel 7/10/08.

sango replied: "150mg dose should help anxiety, but you may need an increase. The only problem with increasing it is that it may start to sedate you. I would go back to your doctor and see if there is something else he can put you on in conjunction with the seroquel. I am hoping that you are seeing a psychiatrist and not a family doctor. family doctors are not psychiatrists."

Gypsy Girl replied: "At that dose, if it is not helping, perhaps it is time to change medications. It is possible to go up in dose. Also, speak to your therapist about coping skills, and relaxation techniques. Don't be afraid to seek out alternative therapies especially if traditional therapies aren't working."

rsweetluxeree replied: "I use Lamictal because Seroquel causes Diabetes. I was up on 300 mg My Dad takes 50mg. It depends on your illness and your mind. You do get over being sleepy up till about 150-200 but then I got hooked on diet mt Dew trying to stay awake on the 300."

staciabbb replied: "If you are not working with a psychiatrist, go get one! Antipsychotics are a little beyond what general practicioners s/b prescribing, IMO. If 150mg isn't working with noticeable improvement, talk to your doc. It may be time to get your diagnosis reassessed and your medication reevaluated. That dose s/b enough to see a marked improvement. Work with your therapist. If you don't have one, definitely get one of those, too. I once thought had serious anxiety issues. Turns out that I have bipolar disorder instead meaning the answer was a completely different type of treatment."

Pandra replied: "First of all, whoever recommended getting this medication through a psychiatrist instead of a general practioner is absolutely right. Psychiatrists are trained in the proper medications (and doses) for emotional and mental problems. Your dose of Seroquel is not excessive at all. (It can be prescribed up to 1000 mg. per day). I have been taking it for years and take 200 mg. at night and when I started having more problems with anxiety, my psychiatrist upped my dose to include 100 mg. in the morning and it worked great. There is also a medication called Klonopin which you can take which is expecially for anxiety and panic attacks. I take only 1 mg. of it in the mornings and it works fine. These medication questions need to be between you and your physican, not on yahoo answers (unless a medical doctor takes the time to answer your question). Talk to your doctor."

Nicolaas V replied: "Seroquel will have anxiety releiving actions at any dose when it is first being taken. After awhile the anxiolytic action will diminish and require dosage increases..which sucks :)"

Seroquel makes social anxiety nearly go away? Can this medicine make severe social anxiety nearly go away?

Cham replied: "My fiance was on that for a month and let me tell you what a HUGE difference..it is used for many different things"

Kelly replied: "Seroquel can help greatly with social anxiety. If your doctor prescribes it, I definitely think it's worth a try. I took it when I was younger, it helped me a lot. Good luck."

ronaldndebbie replied: "Social Anxiety is close to Agoraphobia. I have both and all seroquel did for me was make me extremely sleepy. I take Cymbalta, Xanax (which is also good for social anxiety), and Lithium. It seems like a nice combination for me, but everyone is different. I can drive up to a store sometimes, but just can't go in because there are too many people inside. It's difficult. I'm living it day to day."

HARLEY replied: "seroquil does do wonders for social anxiety, as well as manic/depressive symptoms but... it is a horrible med to try to get off of(no sleep for 2-3 nights, itching, sweating, cold chills, nausea, vomiting for days) it also made me gain 35 pounds in a year and no matter what i do i cant loose a pound."

does seroquel cause anxiety? I am using seroquel and it is i believe caausing more anxiety than when i started it. If anyone could give me some info i would appreciate it. Thanks

LoJac963 replied: "it is a typical medicine for treatment but if your symptoms aren't getting better then you should consult your doctor and possibly up the dosage or try another medication."

welltodo replied: "Serious answer. Yes, it does. I tried once, only for one day. Got so depressed. How they approved that? Try to avoid seroquel. Even if it helps, it's addictable, very hard to go off of it. Be careful. Best wishes"

Ms Cat replied: "For me Seroquel caused severe depression and suicidal thoughts, Geodon (another anti psychotic similar to Seroquel) causes severe anxiety at higher doses but at lower doses I'm fine. Everyone reacts differently. Talk to your doc and see if they can reduce the dose or try another med."

Sleeplessness & Anxiety with Seroquel? My nine year old daughter was diagnosed with bipolar and sever ADHD. After trying many less non extreme medications the doc decided to put her on seroquel saying it would help with her violent outbursts and make her gain less weight (her last medicine resphordal made her gain twenty pounds in a matter of months). She started this medicine a week ago 50 MG twice a day. The first two days she slept like crazy and was a zombie, you hardly knew she was there. Then the mood swings began (they'd happened before but this time they were like 100 x extreme) where she'd be depressed saying no one loved her and everyone wanted her dead, then she'd be afraid of everything that moved, then she'd be so excited she couldn't take it, then she'd be so angry she would start breaking things (again this was one of our biggest problems all along except it was like 100 x worse than before). The past four days she hasn't been able to sleep. She tries and she can't. She's had maybe nine hours of sleep in the past 96 hours. I don't know what to do. She's irritable, cranky, anxiety is kicking in, she's beyond violent... I called the hospital since it's a holiday and asked them what to do, their answer was for me to decide. Take her off or leave her on it until Monday. She just needs to sleep. Any suggestions? How about on suggestions for meds to recommend. Her biggest problem is violent out bursts where she hurts her sister and me (her mom). Again, she's only nine! I've looked up tons of info but all I see is that is a major sleep aid. Nothing about sleeplessness unless you are withdrawing?? I've looked up tons of info but all I see is that is a major sleep aid. Nothing about sleeplessness unless you are withdrawing??

GummyBear. replied: "leave it up to six weeks, if it doesn't work, go back and fight to get it sorted. the NHS are terrible - they just throw people on drugs and hope for the best."

noname replied: "I used to be on Seroquel, but now I'm on Abilify, My doctor says it's the best out there. Have you thought about calling her psychiatrist so that she can be admited to a Crisis Unit until she stabilizes. I hope this helps. God bless you."

*pRiNcEsS* replied: "Is she on meds for ADHD? Even if she is taking them daily, there is always a "coming down" period related to these prescription - that can be the cause her to become violent. Also, insomnia is listed as a possible side effect w/ all ADHD meds. I have also experienced the zombie state while on seroquel. As for the sleeplessness, if it's not the ADHD meds- you may eventually be looking at a diagnosis of bipolar w/her, as she may currently be "cycling" MANIA. When I was either 22, I was 5'5 and weighed 96 lbs. I was prescribed 50-100mgs of seroquel. During a 5 day period I got approx. 2 1/2 hrs sleep, before I finally "crashed" towards the middles of day 5. That being said on day three after having no sleep for 2 days, I took 500mg of seroquel... that is when i finally got the 2 1/2 hrs sleep, day 4, the the 500mg did not faze me at all... i kept going and going ---- I felt miserable, this made very irritable...."

Prozac, Seroquel, and Anxiety? I have been taking prozac and seroquel for about 6 months now and feel better; I have bad OCD and anxiety + alittle bipolar. What have been your results?

Susanna replied: "What do you mean, are you asking what other people taking the same thing have had as a result?"

gopuppy replied: "I took seroquel for several years. My doc started me on it initially for sleep and it does knock you out. But I felt the best I had in years on that med. Unfortunately, I gained about 90 pounds and my cholesterol went through the roof. It is also linked to diabetes. It really helped me and it sucks that I can't take it anymore. As soon as I went off of it I lost ALL of the weight without even trying."

dali333 replied: "i was on prozac for several years very sucessfully to treat my OCD. i switched to zoloft a few years ago and have about the same results. weight gain was an issue for me too, and of course the lousy sexual side effects."

mandalaybay15 replied: "Hi--good 4 u ! I am glad they are working for you. I have depression & social anxiety disorder. I have been on Prozac and many other anti-depressants and such b4. Prozac didn't help me. Fortunately I didn't have any side effects, but it just wasn't the "miracle drug" in this case. From there I was on many like I mentioned, & finally found some that fit me. I am on Effexor XR for Depression, Klonopin for anxiety, and Seroquel for Sleep, anxiety, and a mood-stabalizer. I really love seroquel. It is the best!! Thanks for asking. Good Luck & Take Care. ; )"

cebh1812 replied: "Am bi-polar 1 and Seroquel and Prozac worked reasonably well for me in addition to Depakote. Have now changed from Prozac to Duloxetine which is only slightly better and will be adding lithium for first time in life (always refused it). Seroquel is really useful to knock you out but Prozac is still one of the best anti-depressants I've been on."

Fox replied: "Get more information about some ways to overcome your fear, anxiety and phobia at my profile."

If a person is on both Paxil and Seroquel can they quit the Paxil and stay on Seroquel? Paxil is for depression and anxiety and Seroquel also works for depression but I don't know why the doctor gave me both. Can I quit Paxil and just take the Seroquel? I want to stop taking Paxil because of the sexual side effects. Why do I need 2 depression meds anyway when one can do the job?

woman 2 replied: "don't you think this is an issue to be directed at your doctor??? why ask a bunch of random strangers?"

gotta luv da Li replied: "Both have sexual side effects, and Seroquel may be a bigger problem. At low doses (up to 100mg), Seroquel primarily is an antianxiety and sleep med. Then it is a strong antimanic with some anti-depressant effect. It's main purpose is as an antispychotic at high doses. Paxil is your main antidepressant. Unless you are taking 200mg+ of Seroquel, you may be dropping the wrong med. See a psychiatrist if your are not already. There are other meds. For example, Lamictal is a mood stabilizer with a strong antidepressant effect. It is close to side effect free for many. It's not good with anxiety, though."

Is Seroquel usually given for anxiety? I told my doctor that I had real bad anxiety and he prescibed me 25mg Seroquel once a day.

Spiritssong1 replied: "SEROQUEL is indicated for the treatment of depressive episodes in bipolar disorder; acute manic episodes in bipolar I disorder; and schizophrenia."

Amuse Bouche replied: "Seroquel is intended for use in treating psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and delusional disorders. At least that is the official indication. It is also used as a mood stabilizer in Bipolar Disorder. However, it is also used "off label" quite commonly to treat severe cases of depression and anxiety. More often, it's used at 25 mg at night along with an antianxiety/antidepressant like Effexor in the morning. This can be very effective at reducing anxiety, panic, and it also helps the individual to sleep which is a welcome fringe benefit."

Old guy 124 replied: "Most medicines come with a disclaimer of some sort, so other that its' normal uses it may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. A qualified medical practitioner would only prescribe a drug that is going to help you, but in all case you must keep them informed if you suffer any side effects so that they can prevent any problems before they become fatal."

hr_middleton replied: "I have seen Seroquel perscribed for anxiety very much. If the medication is taken correctly.. It can be very effective in controling anxiety."

Heather P replied: "Yes, I also take 25mg of seroquel in the morning for my adhd.Plus I take 300mg at night to help me sleep. So its mainly taken to... help you be calm, to relax, and also to keep you in a good mood."

SAMMY replied: "No problem, but there is a herbal product called Rhodiola which is excellent. It is non addictive.Look it up on the search engine for more information.Good luck,my prayers are with you."

kaleidoscope_girl replied: "Everyone responds different so it would be difficult to answer in some way, however, seroquel is a good modern medication - it's a bit sedating (like diazepam) so would help you sleep and keep calm as well as stabilising mood if there is any chance it's bipolar and is better than lithium/depakote for mood levelling (I have bipolar and take depakote, aripiprazole and citalopram). All the best hun, and look after yourself - a little exercise helps tremendously."
