Abdominal Pain Clomid Resource in Q&A
Bloating and Abdominal Pain with Clomid? Is it normal to have bloating and abdominal pain(cramping) with my first round of Clomid? I am on day 3 of AF and usually don't cramp this far into my AF but took the first pill of the Clomid cycle around 4:00 today. Please help!

~Skittles~ replied: "this is very normal. You should expect more cramping when you get closer to and finally do ovulate. (if it does it's job) I am 6 days post clomid and have been crampy for the last 3 days. I believe I have already O'd , but not positive until my temps confirm. Good luck and tons of babydust being sent your way."

JoJo replied: "I actually didn't have any symptoms until I had taken the pills for a few days. Is it possible that you are just reading in to it a bit too much due to it being new and it's on your mind? I think if you only took it at 4pm today it wouldn't be doing anything yet but I could be wrong... I know that I bloated and cramped a few days before ovuation and about a couple of days after, then a few days before AF bloated and cramped again and had a very heavy period this cycle. Today is day 3 of my cycle and I started my second round today. We are on the same day, we should be cycle buddies!!! I would call your doc if you are unsure of anything, the only things to look out for really is extreme bloating to where you gain about 5-10 lbs in a couple of days, vomiting, not urinating as much, diarrhea (Even though I had diarrhea last cycle, it's very rare to have it on clomid and usually is something else) those are just a few but you should be fine. If you have cramps just make sure you are well hydrated and lay down on your left side. I will add you as a contact and feel free to email me if you have questions :o) Good Luck!"

Sunny replied: "oh yeah, definitely. i get cramping big time when i take clomid"

On Clomid, lots of abdominal pains, Why? Hi! I am on my second cycle of clomid. Last month I had 50mg and this month I am on 100mg. I have been getting very bad abdominal pains today, I had a follicle scan on Wednesday (Day 12) and had two follicles on my left side which were 15mm. Last month they only reached 10mm. I am using the cheap OPK sticks and im getting a line now but it isnt the same colour as the control line. I am not getting any other signs of ovulation, such as, CM just this period type pain that ive had all day! Is this ovulation?? or something else?? x

cottonlily84 replied: "You're cramping because clomid makes you mature so many more follicles than you naturally would, and on both ovaries. That's why drs should monitor you closely while on clomid. Some women can be overstimulated and their ovaries could even rupture. Clomid also lengthens most women's cycles. You might ovulate a few days later than normal. Keep using the lh strips until you get the positive."

maybeiknowtheanswer replied: "Hi - I'm also on my second cycle of clomid (day 9 today for me). It sounds like you're about to ovulate. I often will have some small cramps when I ovulate. I believe the technical term is mittleshmerz (meaning middle pain, but don't quote me on the spelling of that). It's totally normal. And Clomid can definitely change your CM - so I totally understand your confusion. The only thing I could rely on last month on clomid was my cervix position - it stayed reliable:) Just keep having sex, and hopefully in another two weeks you'll get a BFP! Good luck!!!"

Kira J replied: "its just the clomid is producing follicles and causing the abdoman pain (common with clomid) i had it so bad i was in so much pain but seen my gyno and was told its ok its just because of the follicles. clomid is common for drying us ladies so you may not notice any of the cm but you may, it depends if clomid has dried you. i've not had my normall stretchy cm since starting clomid i just get creamy discharge just on ovulation now but my gyno again has said this is fine. remember if clomid does dry you too much then go for pre seed lube as its sperm friendly and the best. good luck ttc."

I'm on clomid and am having sharp little pain in my low abdominal does that mean I'm ovulating? i'm only on day 12 of my cycle ? when should i ovulate ?i take clomid days 3-7.my husband just went out of town but we had sex everyday on the weekend if i'm ovulating is having sex last night good? thanks! sorry for all the info but its my first month on clomid so i just don't know . also the pains are back and forth on both sides

TheKid replied: "you could e ovulating this early"

LES replied: "YES, YOU MAY BE ABOUT TO OVULATE OR U ARE OVULATING. SAME THING HAPPENED WITH ME, NO WIM JUST WAITING. I OVULATED ON DAY 13 INSTEAD OF 14, AND ONLY HAD A CHANCE TO HAVE SEX ON DAY 12:( I THINK IM OUT OF IT BUT U SHOULD BE OK!! GOOD LUCK!!!"

marilyn m replied: "im going through the SAME THING YOU ARE I HAVE PAINS IN MY OVARYS LEFT AND RIGHT I THINK IT DOES MEAN THAT YOU ARE OVULATING YOU MAY BE ALSO HAVING A LOT OF GAS IN YOUR STOMACH I DID ... I IS ALSO MY FIRST CYCLE OF CLOMID I HOPE I HEAR HOW ITS GOING..... AND I HOPE YOU GET TO HAVE YOUR LITTLE ONE SOON ...BUT IF YOU WERENT OVULATING BEFORE CLOMID YOU ARE NOW!!! CONGRATS.... BABY DUST***"

I took Clomid about two weeks ago, felt fine while I was taking it, but about a week later I felt sick? I am constantly nauseated, have had a 24 hour migraine, bloating, lower abdominal pain, etc. Are the effects of Clomid delayed, or are these symptoms unrelated to the Clomid? Mostly just looking for any insight from other women who have taken Clomid pills.

Praying For a Baby BOY! replied: "Maybe you are allergic to the medication. Just talk to you Dr. and see what answers he/she can give you. Good Luck I wish you lots of baby dust:)"

Baby Owen's MOMMY replied: "I feel fine when taking the clomid but do feel bad for a couple days after taking it. I am moving up to a higher dose this month and not looking forward to the side effects. I am also going back to work next week which is when my side effects will kick in ... I can hardly wait. You might want to call your doc just to make sure that none of your symptoms are ones to worry about. They sound fine to me but I am not a doctor. Lots of baby dust and good luck."

clomid/ovulation pain? hi ladies sunday was was my last pill of clomid 3days later i had the ewcm 4 two days now its gone and i have pain (not to bad) in abdominal and it switch from the left side to the right can anyone tell me who have took clomid whats this is? is it ovulation pain or just side affects? thanks ladies and baby dust to us all!!!!!!!

yaeatspiskels replied: "sounds like ovualtion pains to me sweety. good luck and lots of baby dust to you."

Tarra replied: "Sounds like ovulation pain. I didn't have it the first month on clomid but did on the 2nd months and got pregnant that month! So lots of BD during ovulation!!! GOOD LUCK AND BABY DUST!!!"

Janine replied: "It all depends on how long your cycle is. You might want to start using OPK's to help you figure out when your LH surge starts/ends."

rclowdis replied: "It is possible to be ovulation pains. Are you using any way of finding out if you are ovulating. If not try OPK's or BBT. I get those pains a few days after my last pill, but not the EWCM you may have ovulated. You should ovulate about 5 days after taking your last pill but the days can vary. I ovulated after 6 days."

Tiffany N replied: "Its ovulation pain..mine was horrible! Get busy making that baby and good luck!"

In so much pain, is this normal? Im on day 14 of my cycle and this is my first clomid 50mg cycle, since Tuesday night I have had abdominal pains and they are getting worse. I had my follicle scan yesterday and was told they are not ready for ovulation yet. Is this pain normal and when will it stop?? Its like period pain but worse?

phenomenalwoman_ replied: "I had incredible cramping with a few cycles of clomid. There were times when I was convinced that my ovaries would burst. It's your follicles growing and it's totally normal. It should go away once you ovulate. Good luck and lots of baby dust!!!"

xkatiexloux2006@yahoo.com replied: "Hey When people first start clomid they can suffer with really bad side effects, i remember the first cycle my best mate had on them, she was very sick, and cramps. It should calm down in the next few weeks, once your body's used to it, if not then i would make an appointment with your doctor to check all is ok xxx"

In pain...any suggestions? I am having so much abdominal pain that it hurts with even the slightest cough. It started yesterday and was worse this morning. It feels like my uterus (sorry if tmi) is in a tight ball and someone is trying to stretch it the width of my abdomin. I have taken some advil but it really isn't working. I am CD 17 and this is month 4 of using Clomid (50 mg). I had similar pains the first month, but it was more of a gassy feeling (sorry again if tmi). I am worried that because I am not pregnant (and highly doubtful again this cycle - it seems as though I am taking the Clomid for fun) that there is something really wrong. Do you think it could be the Clomid or has anyone else had similar pain? I doubt I am pregnant and I think it would be way to early to test. I do see my ob/gyn on Friday, but I was just hoping someone has heard of this and it is not the reason I am not getting pregnant.

Melissa replied: "Are you pregnant? If so, I wouldnt be taking all these meds without a doctors permission."

staylor324 replied: "I am not sure, is clomid for fertility? You could have cysts. Anyways if you are trying to get pregnant or could be pregnant don't take anything but Tylenol products."

BaByHoPeS08 replied: "I would take a test to find out if ur PG or not and if neg I would contact the DR and explain what is going on. If you can take Tylenol vs Advil until you know for sure. Good luck and hoping baby dust comes your way real soon."

pm replied: "I'm going to start clomid in two months, the Dr advised me that usually within a few months I would get preggers and if this technique wouldn't work she would prescribe something else, maybe you could talk to your doc. and ask if you can take something else. Good luck!"

butterfly_shell81 replied: "I have been on clomid for 5 months 150mg and have severe abdominal pain like you are describing every time I ovulate and up to 2 weeks after. Last night my husband almost took me to hospital I was in so much agony. Apparently this can happen if your dosage is too high, although you are on a low dose. It can also happen if your ovaries or uterus are swollen which can happen when they are being stimulated by these drugs. You should definitely get your doctor to check you out though, as with me my ovaries were so big it started to affect my other organs."

Clomid round 1 Ovulated early, now sharp cramps after Ovulation, early pregnancy? Hi, im 27 years old and we have been TTC with my husband for a year, my doctor decided to finally try me on Clomid, my period started on the 23rd of March and started clomid on day 5, the thing is that i ovulated early with Clomid and now after ovulation im experiencing sharp abdominal pain like cramps, mostly on the center and then it goes to my side and my back, i feel nauseated and tired, could this be an early sign of implantation? my period is not due yet for about 2 weeks. I have been diagnosed and treated for Endometriosis, i have a 2.5 year old conceived the year after i finished my endo treatment and laparoscopy which diagnosed my infertility problems caused by endometriosis, after my son was born i was on Depo till may last year and now we been TTC for all this time with no luck. what are my chances? Thanks! I Already know what to do in order to get pregnant, your answer is not relative to the question, i appreciate you answering tho.

Clomid and side effects ? Hi there i have been on my second cycle of clomid which i finished taking on the 5th march 12 days later i started to get abdominal pains on left side followed by nausea and vomiting i went to the doctors and they said it due to the clomid, i am feeling much better today but i still have the abdominal pain on my left side i have been taking pain killers to ease the pain. I would like to know if there is anyone out there having the same problems and is this normal ?

Hoping for pink or blue soon replied: "I felt sick to my stomach to and threw up and I would wake up all sweaty I hate that."

dccuttie75 replied: "I just finished my first round of clomid on Thurs.,50mg days 5-9.I have had the same problems as you, just not as severe. My doctor told me I probably would'nt have alot of the side effects because I do ovulate on my own,I just have one tube from and ectopic in 07.I also get the mild headaches.GL"

What What replied: "This is called hyperstimulation of the ovaries. Due to the clomid your follicules ( ovaries) have grown in size to get ready for ovualtion. This happened to me with injections. I was in the worst pain of my life. My husband had to rush me to the doctors office to get an ultrasound done. I was throwing up the whole time in the car. I had a bag ready though. And than at the doctors office the pain was so severe that I went into shock and my whole body was shivering from the pain. They gave me tylenol 3 with codein for the pain. It helped the pain but it took about 4 days for me to get better."

MrsMitch replied: "Just finished round 3 of Clomid and had the worse nausea of my life. Some vomiting and a lot of "bloat-like" pain. My RE said is was all from the Clomid doing it's thing...and I do have 2 good follicles to work with. No pain, no gain!!"

TTC while taking Clomid? I have PCOS,I got AF on 2/7 started clomid on 2/11-2/15.Now i am having major breadt pain, lower abdominal pain and also it hurt's really bad to BD.Is all this from the Clomid or could something else be going on? I am not having and problem's with dryness i guess the pain while BD is from my overies being enlarged. It is painful enough that i am not able to enjoy it,but it's kinda like we gotta do it.

JKaySee replied: "What sort of pain while BDing? Clomid causes drying of your natural cervical mucous, so it's possible that you need to use some lube. The problem w/ that is you need to use a lube that is swimmer friendly. I highly recommend PreSeed (expensive, but worth EVERY penny). I've heard that Astroglide is also a "safe" lube to use while TTC, but I've never used it, so I can't say for sure. The lower abdominal pain is your ovaries enlarging prior to releasing eggs, so get to BDing girl!!!! Good luck! I know the trials you are going through & I hope the Clomid works for you."

dansaremm replied: "I took a few cycles of Clomid several years ago, and I remember feeling lousy! The hot flashes were intense, there was bloating and cramping...the Clomid makes your ovaries release several eggs. When an egg is released, it bursts through the wall of the ovary, sometimes causing or rupturing an existing cyst. (Cysts are pretty normal in most women, and they normally resolve during the month. PCOS is where they are NUMEROUS and don't resolve). Anyway, about now is when you should be ovulating, and so you will be very crampy. Good luck! I hope it works for you!"

Jenny B replied: "Normal. I think you are ovulating. I had the same problem and did not want to have sex at all after I started taking clomid. I managed a quickie ever day and boom.... I'm pregnant. 1st round."
